Scout Scribbles – Baines Still Out for Toffees

Leighton Baines remains sidelined for Everton at Molineux. Theo Walcott may return for Arsenal next weekend. James Morrison is back for the Baggies, Thomas Sorensen will take over in goal for Stoke’s last two, while Kyle Walker is fit enough to start for Spurs, despite a broken toe.

Leighton Baines has been ruled out of Everton’s trip to Wolves this weekend. David Moyes revealed earlier that the left-back is making good progress from a hamstring injury but a Molineux recall will come too soon. Victor Anichebe is also out after sustaining yet another groin injury at Stoke on Tuesday, while Jack Rodwell is expected to remain sidelined with a hamstring problem. Phil Neville and Darron Gibson both remain doubts for the Toffees.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Theo Walcott could return for Arsenal next weekend. The winger was expected to be out for the season after sustaining a calf injury in the Gameweek 35 draw with Chelsea but is recovering quicker than expected and may come into contention for the trip to West Brom on the final day of the campaign, according to his manager:

If all goes well he is back in normal training on Thursday or Friday. Then we have to assess the risk of a setback, so we will see. If all goes well he could be back for the next weekend.

Wenger also admitted Abou Diaby is expected to miss Arsenal’s final two games of the season with a calf problem. The midfielder came on as a sub late in last week’s draw at Stoke but picked up the injury at some point in his 17 minutes of pitch time. Johan Djourou “should” be available for tomorrow’s game with Norwich, though is likely to go handed a bench role at best.

Roberto Di Matteo has today ruled both Gary Cahill and David Luiz out of the FA Cup Final against Liverpool tomorrow. The interim Chelsea boss revealed he hopes the pair will return to training next week, placing question marks against their availability for Tuesday’s trip to Chelsea. With both John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic suspended for the Champions League Final against Bayern, however, it’s conceivable that Di Matteo will choose not to risk either Cahill or Luiz in domestic action – an injury to either would limit his already-decimated defensive options further ahead of the Allianz Arena showdown on May 19.

Alex McLeish hardly has his problems to seek right now. Just three points above the drop zone and with Spurs rolling up to the midlands on Sunday, the beleaguered Villa boss has had to discipline three of his first-team players after an altercation at the club’s player of the year awards on Tuesday evening. Fabian Delph, Chris Herd and James Collins have all been fined for their behaviour and have issued formal apologies for their roles in a night club brawl.

Martin Olsson could return for Blackburn’s crucial home game with Wigan on Monday evening. The Swede has played just 29 minutes over the past three Gameweeks due to a groin injury but Steve Kean revealed earlier today that Olsson has now shrugged off the injury and is on course to face the Latics. David Dunn is available after recovering from a tight Achilles problem, though Kean is sweating on the fitness of Bradley Orr – the defender hasn’t trained due to an Achilles tendon problem.

West Brom have confirmed James Morrison is available for selection for West Brom’s game at Bolton tomorrow. The Scot was expected to be out for the season after sustaining a knee injury in Gameweek 30 but has returned to training this week. The Baggies are sweating on the fitness of Peter Odemwingie, though; the Nigerian is struggling with a hamstring problem. Shane Long picked up a knock in last week’s draw with Villa but is expected to be available.

Tony Pulis has confirmed Thomas Sorensen will take over from Asmir Begovic for Stoke’s final two matches of the season. The Potters boss feels that Sorensen is in need of match practice for this summer’s Euro 2012 with Denmark and will hand him the keeper’s jersey ahead of the games against QPR and Bolton – a blow for Begovic’s 6.7% of Fantasy owners. Andy Wilkinson is recovering from a groin problem that kept him out of the double Gameweek, while Jermaine Pennant and Rory Delap are also doubts, with hamstring and calf problems respectively.

Nigel Reo-Coker is a doubt for Bolton, according to Owen Coyle. The Trotters boss admitted that the midfielder is still struggling with the leg problem that has curtailed his game time in the past couple of matches. Darren Pratley remains out with a virus, Gretar Steinsson is still a doubt, while Coyle also confirmed that Chung-Yong Lee will not feature in the final two games, despite the midfielder returning to first-team training.

Simon Mignolet will return in goal for Sunderland’s trip to Fulham tomorrow. The Belgian was rested for last week’s home clash against Bolton but replacement Craig Gordon failed to impress, conceding two against the Trotters. In other team news, John O’Shea and Nicklas Bendtner are both looking to overcome foot injuries in time for the trip to the Cottage.

Kyle Walker is available for selection ahead of Spurs’ trip to Villa. The right-back, who has been transferred in by over 38,000 Fantasy managers this week, has received pain killing injections on a broken toe sustained in Wednesday’s win at Bolton. Harry Redknapp also revealed he is hopeful of having Scott Parker back for Sunday – the midfielder has missed the last two matches with an Achilles problem but has returned to training this morning.

    repost from previous post

ok folks any reason not to go ahead with my McClean to Maloney move?

    Current Squad

    De Gea, Mingolet

    Evans, Verm, Jags, Santon, Caulker

    VdV, Bale, Dempsey, McClean, Siggy

    Cisse, RvP, Jelly

Enough cash to do Cisse to Aguero next week for no hit.

nope, risky, but I will essentially be bringing Rooney back for 1 week, when Hernandez may start and steal his points. Plus, Hart is doubtful, Cisse's prospects went up even more.

hmm it's an option, much debate on whether Nani will actually start though.

Also, can I afford not to have Wigan coverage in the next 2 weeks? Worth doing both for -4?

Well even though Maloney may have spot kick duties, Moses tends to player higher up. So that maybe? Also against Newcastle, Maloney had only the one shot on goal vs Moses who had 4. (2 v 5 overall shots)

I'm honestly regretful that I've gotta ask this question so much, and I'm sure that many others have asked it too. But, which of these is more risky:

    A. Going into the final 2 games without Papiss Cisse (MCI, eve)

    B. Going into the final 2 games without RVP (NOR, wba)

Imagine you asked that question in January people would have thought you were crazy now its a totally legit question! I think its RVP as Cisse can't go on like this forever and is quoted as saying that he only took that shot because he was feeling lazy which isn't a trait you really want in an attacker right now as it suggests they might be getting tired.

I've just made the same change and I'm still questioning it. I don't think Cisse will have a great deal of chances against Citeh and RVP will be gunning for that golden boot award in two very favourable matches against teams who've all but packed their bags for the summer hols.

Guardian squad sheets reckon that both Nani and Young will start. No Valencia.

But the squad sheets are often wide of the mark.

    GW37 team:

    Krul
    Vermaelen – Enrique – Hibbert
    Dempsey – Valencia – Pienaar – Moses
    RVP(c) – Aguero – Jelavic(vc)

Bench: Vorm – Sigurdsson – Caulker – Evans

Worth a -4 to do either of these?

Thinking of ignoring RVP and Rooney this week and just going big with Aguero and Tevez next week. 30 points behind rival who has RVP and Rooney though. Is this too risky?

No point copying them while you are sitting 30 points back at least going with City means that it is possible to make up 30 points having RVP and Roo means you will have almost no chance.

Valencia could well only get a second half run out don't bank on him being cover for Rooney.

Guys, need some advice if you can spare a minute to advise on strategy? Have the following team with £0.9 in the bank.

    Mingolet Bogdan
    Evans Caulker Terry Enrique Turner
    Siggy Bale Valencia Pienaar Ryo
    Adebayor Rooney RVP

Chasing a 6 point lead in my Mini League.

    Rival has:

Vorm Ruddy (keeper options seem screwed this week but mine not the best
    Simpson Cole Ekotto Evans Taylor
    Barfa Pienaar Davies Bale Ireland
    Adebayor Rooney RVP

Which transfer would you make and why? Confident my team is better than his as his but I've thought that for the last few GWs bar the last and not really caught!

Got 1 FT and £7.3m in the bonk.

    My Team

    Simpson, Verm, Evans, Caulker, Cahill,
    Siggy, Demps, Bale, VDV, McClean,

Getting some United attacking cover would be good just there is obviously always a doubt as to who will start. Maybe wait to see if Fergie lets us know who he is thinking of playing.

    Just a quick point guys.......

All those like me without Rooney, just because Man U NEED goals, why would that mean they WILL get more than normal?
I just don't see it. Usually Swansea are pretty solid (last week excluded when they went with a back 3)
Surely EVERY game they want goals, which makes this equally as likely as any.
    Valencia will do for me

Sorry got stuck at the bottom of the last page,

    I have:

    Mignolet/Bogdan

    Verm/Jagielka/Terry/Evans/Caulker

Would it be wise to bring in Friedel or De Gea (money is not an issue, I have 8 million in the bank)?
Or to transfer out either of Evans and Caulker?

I have used up my FT to do HBA –> Moses this week, so this will be a hit.

Also my main rival (he has a 12 point lead) has:

    Krul/Mignolet

    Caulker/Hibbert/Bardsley/Evans/Vermalen

So its not like he’s in a great position either….

Sorry for the lengthy post, but i’d love any help right now

Howard - Vermaelen Terry Walker - Bale Valencia Pienaar Dempsey - RvP (c) Cisse Jelavic

Subs: Bogdan - Ben Arfa - Williamson Evans

Would you change anything? Leading my mini league with 40 pts due to WC last round, only concern is my rival has Rooney. Who to drop if to go for rooney? Papiss?

Just a thought that came to my self. Is there any chance Valencia to be benched against Swa? They need to go all attack and Fergie likes him for his defensive abilities too together with the crosses. But he isn't a prolific goalscorer. And the biggest wins at home were when Nani and Young both started. Nani on the right is much more effective too.

    Thoughts?

I think Valencia's form has dipped in the last few weeks, whilst Young's and Nani's has been bang on (yes he was poor v City, but Carrick, Scholes, and maybe De Gea aside, so was everyone else, Rooney especially so) I think there is a high chance that both Young and Nani start.

    Is Terry & Cisse > Kaboul/Walker & Rooney worth a 4 point hit?

Was all set on it but there seems to be a lot of love for Terry on here today. I don't think a clean sheet at anfield is that likely to be honest

I wouldn't agree with you. As unlikely as a cleanie at Anfield is (look at Liverpool's home record this season) taking a hit to invest in a back line with Danny Rose and Gallas doesn't sound so enticing to me. Cisse --> Rooney is upto you, I personally don't see value in that transfer but many do so...

Not a good idea for a hit in my opinion. I think Cisse, Roo, RVP is best this week thats what I am going for. Terry can always chips in with goals and bonus he doesn't need a cleansheet to pick up points.
