Moneyball – Romelu Lukaku

Handed a debut last week, our new Moneyball series returns to scan the lower end of the Fantasy markets, identifying players with the numbers to suggest they could well emerge as an unlikely force for this week and the foreseeable future. West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku is a considerable unit who, to this point, has been kept straining at the leash. Even so, with a start at home to struggling Reading on the cards tomorrow, the time looks right for the big Belgian prospect…

I know from the last week not to trust the Guardian's squad sheets but I've found this quite alarming as a Boyce owner:

"Wigan, with four points from four games, will be pleased to be back at the DW Stadium after a 4-0 ravaging at Old Trafford. They hope to have Antolín Alcaraz resuming defensive duties alongside Stephen Caldwell and Iván Ramis, with Emmerson Boyce dropping to the bench."

well the fact Gary Caldwell is the Wigan captain whilst Steven Caldwell doesn't even play for Wigan tells you all you need to know on that

Schoolboy errors from the guardian. They are literally clueless when it comes to lineups.

Boyce isn't even in competition with any of them.

I did the same thing. Brought me back to the top of the league. I'm going for it. And bringing ol Aguero in.Current forward line is Tevez, Aguero, Defoe. I'm sure that will change in the next couple of weeks but I'm satisfied right now.

I like Hazard because there will be at least 2-3 goals at Stamford Bridge and he's usually involved in them. but he carries the least goal threat out of all 3.

I think Tev will start but could get taken off for Aguero (if he doesn't start) and RVP has hardest fixture.

yeah I just fear that Santi's not that explosive points wise, absolutely sick at football, a la Modric, but influential without translating to many points. Especially against City and Chelsea, I thought his potential might be stunted. HBA plays NOR rea, and expect him to pick up a couple of goals and assists over those, to Cazorla's solitary assist maybe across the 2

It might be not such a stupid move, since HBA is not a "one sweet fixture only"...

i think its a bad decision.. its always not good to bring in a player that is doing well for another player thats doing well. All the more against city and chelsea... if arsenal gonna score goals, santi will be part of it.. grabbing afew assist or even a goal. if HBA dont perform, u will waste ur transfer and if santi scores , u regret it.

well that said.. i have ben afra as my capt this week even tho i have tevez rvp and hazard. GOOD LUCK TO U. just dont take hits for this kind of transfer next time

    Good article about TV money...
    http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/in-premier-league-sun-always-shines-on.html

Spanish system is very unfair, Barca and Real earn 10 times the TV money of the bottom club, compared to England where the top clubs only earn 1.6 times the bottom club's tv earnings.

La Liga has like 5 years of life left. The economic disharmony (Madrid/Barca vs everyone else) is alarming. Another Scottish Premier league, except the fall will be much greater...it won't be able to be supported. Madrid and Barca will have to play in the EPL! 😉

A lot of people in my ML have Santi and Carlos so think could be decent differential. Also gives me a little bit of change in the bank for some freedom. Aguero sure to start this weekend though?

Thoughts on defence and subs? Keeping an eye on the Naughton situation, will trade for Clark/Nelsen if he's out. What I have so far (with sub-order)

Almost certainly too expensive. But I'm thinking I play 4-3-3 most weeks and bring Maloney/Guthrie in for favorable matchups/emergency subs. I'm not really in love with any of the 6ish million midfield options. I'll probably end up wimping out and returning to the cradle of Tevez/RvP at discounts

Not enough CS so far to warrant spending so much money at the back. Lukaku certainly isn't nailed on and Aguero isn't fit

I'm gambling that the clean sheet market is going to shift. Lukaku is a huge gamble it's true. I thought Aguero was ready to go? He made the bench midweek didn't he?

I think you're right about the CS market shifting but I reckon it's yet to be seen who will be tight at the back.. I reckon Arsenal will be v solid at the back when they have some favourable fixtures. Yeah Aguero isn't injured but I don't think he's match fit.. I could be wrong but I reckon he'll be eased in over the next two GWs

Made the mistake of plucking Terry over Ivan at the start. All but lost faith. For the price, would opt for Verm or Verton. Also, WBA or WHM on the cheap.

I've gone for B this week. As much as I hate doing hits, I think he'll recover the 4 points back and with Ba in your team it makes it easy to switch to Berba/Fletcher/Defoe if/when you need to.
