A series of eye-catching performances in the last few months of the previous campaign had Fantasy managers queuing up to acquire the services of Hatem Ben Arfa. Having struggled to convince Alan Pardew of a regular role in the Newcastle starting XI, the Frenchman finally flourished on Tyneside as Newcastle moved to 4-3-3 but while a shift back to 4-4-2 has benefitted Demba Ba this season, Ben Arfa hasn’t quite delivered.

The opening three Gameweeks had looked promising. Notching in each of his first two home matches, Ben Arfa seemed set to rack up the points but since grabbing his side’s only goal in the Gameweek 3 draw with Villa, his Fantasy owners have been served up nothing more than a solitary assist.

    OK so Kolarov has been a wasteman in my team so on my next FT it'll be time to take out the trash.

    I like the article on Ben Arfa. As an owner I have been quite worried recently and the argument against him this season is a robust one. However, I think the good fixtures save him for me and I don't want to be so foolish as to ditch him without giving him a few weeks to prove himself against the lesser teams. That said, I will certainly be keeping a beady eye on Newcastle games to see how he does. Can't say I have seen them play this season and so he is one where I'm going in blind, so to speak.

    I'm not sure I understand the argument about playing more minutes per game this term either. Surely that's a good thing as he is more nailed on? I suppose what I am really saying is, if he creates the same number of chances this season to last but last season it was done in less minutes, that is largely irrelevant, no? Maybe I am misunderstanding though!
