The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Six – Ghost Ship

Ghost Ship – a Fantasy Football team picked for the first Gameweek and then left to drift without a crew or rudder for the rest of the season. It would stand to reason that such a vessel would hit the rocks and sink without trace. Sometimes, however, they can navigate an unlikely route to glory.

Tell us about. This latest episode is a timely one given the time of year and it’s a “Ghost Ship” lineup, “managed” by the most unlikely member of the team to be up amongst the top ranks that takes up a good proportion of our time, leaving Granville and myself pondering the meaning of it all.

Around all that, we both manage to find the motivation to bring you the regular topics with the concept of “chasing points” coming under discussion, alongside “all aboard”, the weekend preview and a long tale of Granville’s injury list. Ouch.

Climb aboard this haunted vessel via this link, or use the handy player below to stream away.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is dropping Cazorla now not the exact (or close enough) situation as Bale and Hazard GW 3? We all know how that went.

Cazorla is doing everything right, except for scoring the points. But all the signs suggest towards points, just a case of holding tight. Unless you really have transfers to burn or think Arsenal have turned complete naff (very unlikely).

I totally agree. I have no idea why anyone would drop Santi now. After Man U he's fixtures look rosy. It's got a bit mental on here recently. Wheat & chaff etc.

If you believe that then stick with him. End of.

I personally believe his finishing is just rubbish and will most like take him out soon but even at that I'm giving him this wk (and maybe nxt wk) to see if he can prove me wrong.

But compared with Bal, Hazard, Mata his finishing is awful

OK but that doesn't sum up his finishing or Hazards assists.

Hazard is obviously passing when he 'should' hence the big assist no.

Cazorla needed 15 extra shots to score 1 extra goal, thats pretty shite.

But thats another thing, Hazard is on Penos. He'll prob score more penos that Caz will score goals which is anther reason to have Hazard I reckon.

But Lampard will play some matches too. I don't doubt Hazard is probably a more natural goalscorer...but I was just pointing it out...sure he might have loads more shots but it's still sort of relevant for the time being.

Past usually a good indicator of future returns. In Spain - he scored about once every 5 games and was not a prolific assists machine. Nowhere as close to as productive as Mata was in England last year or historically in Spain, Hazard in France or Bale in last 2 years. He's still Arsenal's best option - a team that will finish in the Top 4 and score 2-3 goals a game when in form, so I expect something like 6-8 goals and 6-8 assists over the course of the year, but I don't think anyone expects double digits goals and assists...

I think he'll get more assists than that because he's their main creator from open play and set-pieces.

Any player in a top 6 team with both of those should gain 10+ assists.

Silva, Mata, Bale, Valencia, RVP all did last year.

Malaga finished 4th last season - probably the same position Arsenal will finish.

Cazorla played all 38 games, was by far their best player, and finished with 5 assists.

I don't doubt he could hit 10 but I'd say that would be his maximum. 6-10 is a good range, and he will certainly be a good performer, but by no means are there not other options for the long term that are interchangeable.

Fair enough but has his role not changed at Arsenal? I remember him talking up this new free role that he's been enjoying?

We will see. I don't see him scoring masses of goals mind though so I agree with you there.

I'm keeping the faith, it seems silly that he'll continue to keep his stats up and Arsenal to not score. Arsenal are an attacking team at heart, and Cazorla seems central to all that.

as someone who hasn't owned most of those players so can talk from a very detached view point, cazorla is by far the least scary not to own. i think there's an element of what was mentioned on the podcast, he's such a nice looking player the assumption is points will come, he's just not scary though

Agreed. I have Cazorla myself and am thinking of replacing this week for a midfielder 7.9m or less and upgrading Suarez to RVP but I just have this weird feeling Suarez will go on a run. He's looked superb his last 2-3 starts - especially at Everton - was so sharp and playing with a point to prove - think he'll equal RVP this week though afterwards with 4 yellow cards and tougher fixtures, of course RVP is the main man..

Maybe 1 week too early to bring in RVP. Difficult one.

The 7.9m or less would naturally be Ben Arfa or Oscar at the highest range but neither excite me especially as I own Mata and doubling up on CHE mids seems silly.

ben arfa is so enticing but ba feels like the head move, as opposed to ben arfa as the heart. oscar is one you get the feeling will be good, but it's hard to do until he finally breaks that league duck. think you're fine with just mata for now

Agreed thanks it's just tough without RVP as the consistent, reliable (C) though I had him as Captain early in the season for the Wigan (1) Tottenham (5) and Newcastle (4) games and have a bad taste in my mouth. Surely Luis Suarez - in form - and 3m cheaper, may keep pace but it's so tough.

My head says Suarez scores 15-20 this year and with Tevez/Berbatov occupying my other 2 positions I'll need to drop Cazorla to bring in RVP once again... Tough.

Decisions like this make a season. A 13.4m player needs to score you 6-8 ppg consistently as a Captain option to make any sense whatsoever. RVP has done that about 50% of the time this year...

I have owned Caz all season and tbh I think your just trying to convince yourself to keep him. For the 9 games I have had him I do expect a bit more and time is running out. He will get one or two more chances tops before I get rid.

I don't like doubling up in defence. I currently have:
    Begovic, Jussi
    Jenkinson, Baines, Cuellar, Simpson, McAuley

I have no pressing transfers elsewhere so my question is: Is Jenks to Sagna too sideways a move (I won't be playing him this week)?

    Mig - Krul

    Bale - Michu - Nolan - Sterling - Mata

I really want bale in my squad but that will mean i have to get crouch so which option is better:

    bale + crouch

    valencia + ba

    Here's the sitch:

The leader in my ML by 22 has Bale, Mata, RVP (as do I + Defoe).

He told me he's captaining Mata or Bale, and I decided I was going to captain RVP on this fixture long before this week. Should I still go through with it?

+1 the sesson is not even half old yet

But I agree with Vets, do what you think will score best. If you think that RvP is the best (c) option then go with him, regardless of what your rival is doing.

    Foster, Begovic
    Baines, Rafael, Cuellar, Davies, Demel
    Mata, Santi, Bale, Morrison, Guthrie
    RVP, Ba, Berbs

    0.4 in the bank

I obviously have problems with Ba & Deme,l and Guthrie being a knob.

Assuming they don't play and Berbs does, do I need to do anything? I means playing Davies against Chels. I fancy saving the tranny...

Demel will be out for a fair while and his fixtures are terrible. He will drop 0.2 or 0.3 over those few weeks as his ownership is highest of the Defs that started at 4.0.

      cr@p 😛

Play Begs, and Cuellar and hope for the best on Berba. If you can afford to save it do, you don't have a lot of spare cash floating about, so if you were to upgrade Davies or Demel you'd have to find some funds from elsewhere to do it, or go sideways with Nelsen or Wilko and that is not worth a transfer IMO.

Have Guthrie, Demel and Davies as your bench order.

Main issue with Demel is the same as mine with Wilson, the length of time he will be out for and potential price drops. if Demel was fit he would still only be on your bench and for that reason I don't feel it's worth wasting an FT on.

true it makes more sence but i was just cautious of letting hazard go but bale + mata should make up easily

Dunno, but if you have him i'd advise to get rid tonight, he's dropping.

If he drops it'll just be back to 4.5. Do we still lose resale value?

Dammit Wilson is dropping tonight. Have already taken -4 so I have 3 options

    1) Take the drop and sell next week

    2) Go -8 and get a different stoke defender or Nelsen in

    3) Wildcard it.

Surely Wilson is not going to lose you value...4.6 to 4.5...it makes no difference!

Take the drop. You have at least 11 men playing.
