The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Seven – The Hole

We just won’t let it lie. Having rinsed through the idea in this week’s Digest, the prospect of dropping this new breed of “in the hole” midfielders into a new Fantasy position gets another airing in this week’s ‘Cast. Granville agrees but we still somehow manage to argue about it.

Around that particular hot topic, there’s our usual brand of regulars, plus a preview of the two sides that lie in wait for us in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup and the latest on Ed’s team and his work on the new comments system. “Mr Ghostship” had a bad week – could it be all the attention has piled the pressure on his big coding shoulders?

Take up the role in the hole by clicking this link, or just stream the business in your browser via the player below….

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd like to put in a transfer request. This is how the teams currently lined up for the GW:

    Begovic
    Baines - Ivanovic - Gorkss
Bale (vc) - Pienaar - Michu - Nolan
    RVP (c) - Tevez - Berbatov

Foster - Sterling - Cuellar - Demel 1.5m in the bank

    Options:

    A. Save transfer
    B. Tevez or Berbatov to Ba
    C. Ivanovic to Rafael
    D. B & C for a hit
    E. Other

    Many thanks for your consideration.....

Ba might not play and I wouldn't really want to drop either of Tevez or Berba for him really. Ivan to Rafael seems a bit sidewise unless you are trying to free up funds. I'd leave it.

I like b) with Berba going, but only if Ba is confirmed fit for this w/e. Otherwise, a)

      c) is also decent, but perhaps can wait a couple of weeks.

    Sorry, lost on last page.

    Team before transfer:

    Bego (Jussi)
    Baines, Rafael, McAuley (Rangel,Demel)
    Mata, Michu, Sterling, HBA, Hazard
    RVP, Berb (Pog)

Thinking of doing Rangel ----> Gorkss and then benching McAuley.

    Thoughts?

Its not the worst idea tbf. I personally wouldn't bench a striker as a rule of thumb. Although such rules shouldn't be hard and fast I think there is merit to doing the right thing by starting Berba. Last week it was tempting to play the away keeper (bego) over the home keeper (foster) but those of us who stuck to the rule of playing the one at home were rewarded. So basically in tough decisions such as these stick to the rule of 343.

Yeah, it goes against my natural instinct to favour a midfielder over a forward - but Maloney and Wigan are playing well at the moment - and I cant see Fulham creating too many chances at the Emirates.

he still only has 30-odd % ownership, so you will still have the jump over the majority of players by bringing him in.

Thats why I got him early. I was already panicking when he was set to rise from 13m. I knew the longer I left it the harder it would be to get him in so I used the WC GW5. Now we are seeing it happen before our eyes. If you don't get him soon you'll never be able to afford him.

    Haz Bale Pienaar Morrison
    RVP(c) Ba Lambert

    Subs: Sterling Hang Gibbs

Many doubts for this week and my DF is looking rather weak. Would you:

    a) Save tranny
    b) Gibbs>Sagna
    c) Gibbs>Cameron (would allow Lambert>Berba or Morrison>Michu next week)

Has anyone planned which week they'll be using their Jan wildcard yet? Tough to do I know, but looking at fixtures, I reckon GW22 is as good as any.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea & Spurs fixtures get tough (offload those we are currently planning to load up on, Santi/Suarez/Mata/Bale etc)

United, City, Newcastle & Everton fixtures ease up (will probably already have a decent United contingent, but a good opp to wildcard in the likes of Aguero, Silva, Tevez, Ba, Baines, Fellaini etc)

With this in mind, I'm now thinking of ditching Fellaini and Baines after GW14...

22 transfers already? You're getting really impatient and merely trying to play for every gameweek.

          Marathon, not a sprint.

Don't get too tempted by the flavors of the week. Keep faith in your picks.

Points hits is like a drug. Once you start its hard to stop. I always get annoyed at people who say that "now they have the perfect team and won't take anymore hits". Almost always they slip back into the habit of taking regular hits once more. Once you're a transfer addict its difficult to break free.

Id get a membership for 30-40 £ and buy some tickets myself (for emirates) but i gueas youre not willing to pay for 3 memberships to get to all three stadions. No guarantee of getting one but you can always go to matchday box office at time of kickoff. Usually some ticketa there.

So, Yaya played CAM against Ajax and I think Mancini will stick on to it by playing Javi and Barry as DM..
Yaya now looks like an interesting option if he continues to play CAM

Will he be in an advanced role when Silva returns? I can't see it. Tevez will play 'in the hole' behind Aguero. At best Yaya will be a box to box CM with Barry/Javi alongside him.

He really isn't suited to playing that role imo. They need that player to have great movement and quick slick passing. That just isn't Yaya. I think 2 of Aguero/Tevez/Balo/Dzeko will play along with Silva and Nasri. This means that Yaya would have to play CM.

Well honestly, Ronney's stats aren't that bad it may be smarter to get rid of Crouch of first and then think about the RVP vs Rooney dilemna. Also IMO the reason why I couldn't get myself to buy Rooney were the away games where he'll drop deep so you want to see whether that will continue this gw or not and then take a call.

I would take courage from RVP's own words about how they are not playing as a strict 9 and 10 but each as a 9.5. He is basically saying that they share the playmaker role and take turns as the man up front during the game. Some say that RVP has an unsustainable strike rate based on his above average conversion rate. I think Rooney is a fine alternative and because you have him you don't need RVP as well.

Thoughts on my doing Hangeland -> Saylor this week?

    Pros:
I can rotate Saylor and Cuellar as follows the next 6 weeks -
WHM SWA WBA QPR WIG CHE+REA

    Cons:
Hangeland at home to Sunderland next week looks good for a cleanie.
