The Watchlist – David Silva

Following a three-match absence through injury, David Silva arrived back in the nick of time for Manchester City’s Gameweek 11 home clash with Spurs last weekend, giving his team a much needed fillip and Fantasy managers a reminder of his sublime talent.

As the game looked to be stuttering to a 1-1 draw it took an 87th minute spark of genius from Silva to win the match, as he brilliantly exchanged passes with substitute Edin Dzeko and his final, killer ball to the Bosnian was duly slammed home. In addition to the assist, Silva also received two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points for his efforts in turning the game around and accrued a modest but significant seven-point total to herald a welcome top-flight return.

Since his opening day penalty miss at home to Southampton and subsequent 71st minute substitution Silva has struggled to recapture the stunning 2011/12 form that saw him rack up a total of 184 points. With just two assists to his name prior to Gameweek 11 it was clear that injury and fatigue, from a summer helping Spain win Euro 2012, were in danger of scuppering his third season in the English top flight. Two substitute cameos in his first four matches and only 90 minutes on three occasions so far this season have prompted managers to discard him in their droves and has seen his price plummet from 10.0 to just 9.3 in the FPL game. In the Sky Sports game, where no such price market exists, he is still the top priced midfielder at 9.0.

Until Sunday’s return, he had become something of a forgotten man for Fantasy managers, owned by only 4.6% of managers in the FPL game and 6.59% in the Sky game. It is a situation that is set to change over the coming weeks, however, as Silva seems certain for starts and is clearly re-energised from his short lay-off.

Silva also looks to be a key player among the ranks of premium priced midfielders for Gameweek 12, in which Man City host Aston Villa. In comparison to his Spanish countrymen Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla, he has not been selected to endure the international side’s gruelling 28-hour round trip for an away friendly with Panama and is primed to delight those managers who have recruited him this week.

Following the Aston Villa game though fixtures are not ideal for Man City (che, wig, EVE, MAN, new), but as arguably the key player in a team vying to retain the Premier League title, tricky opponents should not cause too much concern for Silva. His return is not only ideal for City, it also affords the opportunity to shake up our five-man midfields with a bona fide top Fantasy performer for those looking for an alternative to the likes of Mata, Cazorla, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard in the premium bracket.

    Good evening gents.

I have 2 FTs and 0.7m in the bank. Really stuck with what to do.

    Foster/ Begovic
    Baines, Boyce, Demel, Davies, Gunter.
    Bale, Cazorla, Fellaini, Nolan, Guthrie.
    RVP, Tevez, Ba.

I quite like the front seven and I think it would be changing for the sake of changing (eg. Tevez -> Suarez, Bale or Santi -> Silva...etc, etc)

So I'm looking at Foster -> Ruddy and Boyce -> Rafael.

Any thoughts please? Thanks, as ever.

Surely only 1 transfer needed at the most?

I'd keep Foster (am doing so myself) although I agree about Rafa with his form and fixtures. I have no idea how to get him in though!

I agree with your thoughts with the front seven, not much to be gained in changing as they all have a great potential for points. Tevez is the only one who may get rotated once City are out of the CL and Dzeko stakes a claim for a starting place so it's something to watch out for.

The defence could do with some work. Baines and Demel are absolutely fine. Swansea don't seem to be keeping clean sheets while Gunter doesn't play all that often at all. Boyce pushes up the field but the lack of clean sheet points mean I don't really like him.

In summary, check on Foster's injury if a transfer is actually needed there as you could play Begovic for the next 3 fixtures without too much concern. Look at a Sunderland defender and Gorkss/Shorey to bring in for their DGW maybe.

        Super reply, thanks Chazza.
Gunter seems to have forced his way past Cummings (2 starts in a row).
I was thinking Demel out due to crap fixtures (if I was to dump a cheapie).
Might keep Boyce for one last home match Vs RG in GW13.
        Thanks again!

Thnaks Mull. McCarthy injured (could be bad) but you prob have the DGW in mind. Vorm will return, so don't like Tremmel.

I do like the Evans thinking. I've prob missed the boat with all the Rafael rises and Evans is that much cheaper.

In fact your suggested transfers are probably better plus Rafael will not stop rising. Once they get attacking points they are very popular choices e.g. Reid and McAuley.

England players thoughts on Zaha after training with him:

Leon Osman : "We have all been hearing about him for a year or so now. He came and trained on Monday morning and looked the real deal. He was direct, skilful and committing people."

Daniel Sturridge : "I know Didier (Drogba) has been trying to get him to play for the Ivory Coast. We want the best players to play for England and the manager has picked him to be involved in the squad."

So I am thinking...even though Tevez >> Suarez looks tempting, I have already missed one price rise and it would be for a hit...so I am thinking:

Pick one to become Fellaini. I can't find one honestly. Probably starting next week.

    Michu Nollan Bale Sterling Mata.

Maybe Bale cause I can use the cash elsewhere... But he is explosive player and he become some kind of a differential too. And if possible reasons who should go. Thanks

Thanks man. Sterling is too good a value to be sold. I need to reshuffle my whole team in order to afford it. He was miles better with Graham before him. He needs space and he wants to receive the ball. This position as a lone striker is bad for him and for Swansea in genera. They lost huge part of there goal threat when they lost Graham. So I think Laudrug knows that according to his comments and that he needs Graham back.

Hope for t best. But Fellaini is irresistible

I couldn't resist Fellaini any longer, and probably held onto Pienaar two GWs longer than I should have.

Not sure about all the Sterling love besides pace and position. Surely Liverpool will bring in a proper strike partner for Suarez in January (or Borini will come back, no idea what his timetable is) so how much more time does he have to go for long dribbles that look good but do not earn fantasy points? But my reserve attacker is Pog so maybe I shouldn't judge.

Pog is no go IMO. And Sterling has the stats to back him. I think I am gonna keep him whole season. Probably.

Is Fellaini a must? He is owned by almost 35% managers atm. I can't find weakness in any of my midfield atm. Maybe one yellow for Michu or injury will solve my dilemma. I really hope Gorkss has a good week against Eve this w/e

    Thoughts on my squad please

    Mignolet, Jussi

    Baines, Rafael, Shawcross, McCartney, Clyne

    Fellaini, Hazard, Michu, Nolan, Sterling

    RVP, Lambert, Tevez/Suarez (probably Suarez)

I'm saving my WC for a few weeks still.

Pretty sweet. If i'm going to pick a fault it would be Lambert, and the choice between which midfielder to drop each week. Personally, I'd go cheap and cheerful midfielder for the bench (if you intend to play Sterling) and upgrade Lambert. But that's just being picky...

thanks for the reply... I usally swap between Sterling and Lambert for the bench. Lambert is on my transfer list.

Interesting Walcott pick in your team, could be a great differential to the masses.

      very classy. sweet defence.

i'd rather have mata than hazard.

also needs berbs instead of lambo.

      excellent team regardless.

      Lambert --> Berbatov seems obvious.

I see. If I had to chose I'd downgrade Hazard to Mata. Can´t see one of them outscoring the other by a large margin. Don't know if you can still make money with that swap but that would be it for me. RVP and Berba are season keepers to me.

Thoughts on taking a -4 pt hit to avoid a 0.1 price drop?

Understandably I wouldn't do this if playing the game as is, however, I do want to finish in the top 50K.

I play in a monthly highest points take all format for high end IPAs.

Last season I really started to roll in he last few months as my team value was higher than all in my league.

    Hmmmm.

Swans D, Williams, have enough in pot to bring in a one named Brazilian defender that is apparently the cats ass right now.

I have taken 64 points worth of hits and after this weeks deductions will be ahead by 2 points in my league but will be ahead by 5 million in bankroll. My strategy has been keep it close and luckily I am slightly ahead and in January have whoever I want and avoid the hits as I build my super team weeks ahead of every one else in my league.

wow! You still have a nice rank after all those hits! I suppose there's more than one way to play this game....(plus your way seems a lot more fun!)

0.1 price drop isn't the end of the world, unless you want to get rid for someone to play in the next game. Team value is important, but not as much as the right transfers at the right time...

I wouldn't dream of it normally but most on here playing for highest rank possible. If this mini league is more important to you than overall ranking I would do it.

A 4 point hit for a defender is stupid short term. If your target will start the next 6-8 weeks, maybe. But then you have to ask yourself is he all that v. the guy you are switching out. But I am very much a no hit guy.
