From The Physio

From The Physio – Gameweek 12 – Part Two

Robin Van Persie had many a Fantasy Manager reaching for the Beta-Blockers to combat heightened anxiety and raised blood pressure as news filtered through that leading Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points scorer Robin Van Persie had suffered a suspected thigh strain.

The news broke in the early hours of Monday morning, indicating that Manchester United were aware of the problem from at least last Sunday and, as most club protocols are for a rest day immediately after a match, we can only assume that the injury occurred during the Aston Villa game. Reassuringly, an observational assessment of his physiological movements during the second half of the encounter offers credible evidence that recovery should be swift.

Having dissected each movement for clues and indicators of injury, it soon becomes clear that throughout the second half Van Persie moves with agility, fluidity and mechanical purity; indeed, he looked sharp, fresh and bristled with intent. The Dutch international can be witnessed performing a full array of high intensity movements around the hip, knee and ankle joints, leaping, tackling, taking corners, free kicks and accelerating and decelerating whilst changing direction. At no point during the half did I witness anything that would concern me. From an observational physiotherapist’s perspective, he moved with fluid freedom, showing no signs of anxiety, reaction or impediment. At no point during the half did RVP exhibit any type of antalgic gait.

It must be noted that an observational assessment doesn’t tell the whole story; a battery of palpations, tests and movements allied to a subjective assessment offers a much fuller picture, but based purely on our observational analysis we have to give RVP a clean bill of health.

If Van Persie incurred an injury, he disguised it well, leaving me to conclude that some soreness or tightness around the thigh muscles presented itself during the post match physio assessments. However, on the available evidence we can only conclude that, unless he has taken a tumble getting on to the team bus, any injury would be minor in nature, giving us a high probability that the Dutchman should be fit, fresh and ready to rattle the Canaries cages at Carrow Road this weekend.

Oh, I so hope Tevez scores big this week. His price is about to drop. He has become undroppable, even for Mancini's playful imagination. He has the stats, too. He is just on one of them goalscoring droughts. He had a clear 1on1 last weekend.

He's not the Tevez of old though, not at the moment anyway. Aguero and Dzeko are looking like outscoring him because they seem to be getting more chances up top.

I don't know if I agree. Time will tell. If you look at his average position vs. Kun's, it's not that different. He does tend to drop back, but by the same token he is getting plenty of touches in the box and shots towards goal.

Is it worth captaining RVP even if he comes off the bench for a 20min cameo?

Like i said earlier, Hernandez is nailed on to start leaving only one spot left, but it's not like they need to save RVP or Shrek for the C.L on Tuesday is it. Big gamble this week. Goes back to the whole mass captaining of RVP as a safe route.

Most will agree that RvP will start. Heck, I am no United expert but we could see all three of Rooney, RvP and Chicharito start.

And yes, the answer is it's always the right decision to captain RvP.

...and I suppose it's time for another Lfc v Wigan draw, or Wigan win at Anfield too?

Surely LFC have to batter Wigan someday??? I fancy them to start winning a few matches here. No matter how much we laugh at them, and no matter how limited their attacking options are, I do still think they SHOULD have earned quite a few more points this year, and that they will start climbing the table soon.

My ML leader has Suarez and no RVP and has been pulling away weekly, captaining Bucktooth on a regular basis. Suarez has to be up for a brace and 3bps again this week.

How would it be if Fergie thought along the lines of

      Valencia Andersson/cleverley Rooney Young/Kagawa

      RVP
      Hernandez

It occurs to me he is becoming too reliant upon old man Scholes...whilst he has the options to revert back to his old winger days by pulling Rooney fully back to midfield...just a thought...bit of a scary thought as well...

Questions for the man utd fans out there...

How much attacking intent is Evra showing at the moment?

I know the feeling is Rafael gets forward a lot. Is that down to a good interaction with the right winger?

Do you think Evra could start to get forward more?

Everyone has Rafael, so tempted to pay the extra for Evra if it differentiates me a little.

    Thoughts? Thanks

If I had a choice I'd get Rafael.

He's showing much more attacking prowess than Evra.

Valencia is more willing to cover for him throughout the game so it gives Rafael licence to get forward.

Total FPL has Pie at -63% of his NTI and therefore he won't drop tonight and maybe not even tomorrow night.

All those questioning wether RVP starts and should be captained need to look at it a different way.

He is owned and captained by so many, even ghost ship teams, that if he starts and blows up and you didn't captain him you will lose some major ground if your alternate choice has a quite game, however if he doesn't, or starts and is subbed off early and you captain a Suarez, Berbs or Ba then you are going to rocket up the standings.

Risk reward, it just depends what your looking for a gamble
    Or a safe bet.

I have literally explored every option for my team this week with regards to the north London derby. I have even just idly played around with RVP > Giroud and Sterling > Fellaini -4 giving me a front 8 of

    Mata Cazorla Bale Fellaini Pienaar
    Berbatov Giroud Lambert

    Definitely gone too far

Thank you sir, having a bad start to this season but heading in the right direction.

Any other week he would be dead on captain but I just think he runs the risk of Being benched and being brought on if game not going to plan or being brought of early if game is sewn up.

But I agree, going with your gut is often the best move.

Just a heads up Chu. When the new comments system arrives the community can vote on all comments and those comments with a certain level of negative votes will fade and then be removed automatically without admin input.

Folk who enjoy creating a reputation now and have an attitude like that will see every comment they make under the new comments vanish in seconds.

Perhaps making a few friends now would be worth it if you want to continue to be able to post here.
