The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Anthony Pilkington earns the points for Norwich with a superb headed effort extending his side’s unbeaten run to five. Robin Van Persie fails to score or assist for the first time as a starter for United, with the Canaries resilient defence proving too good for the most prolific attack in the Premier League:

Going Up

Norwich Defence
The Canaries came into this evening’s game having conceded a single goal in their previous four Gameweeks but the visit of United was considered a real test of their resolve. A 1-0 win continued their upturn in resilience as Chris Hughton’s influence starts to have a real effect – they now have five clean sheets this term, three more than this evening’s beaten opponents.

Anthony Pilkington
His first goal of the campaign was enough to produce the points for the hosts. Norwich have not tasted defeat since a 4-1 battering at Chelsea in Gameweek 7 and while they may not score many – netting more than once on a single occasion so far – Hughton’s side concede even less; the opposite of last season’s form under former boss Paul Lambert.

Going Down

United Defence
David De Gea was given the day off after a trip to the dentist caused problems but Anders Lindegaard could do little about Pilkington’s excellent headed winner. United have now conceded first in eight of their 12 matches and for once, their attack was unable to bail them out.

United Attack
Tonsillitis kept Wayne Rooney out of the reckoning and with Javier Hernandez selected to start, Robin Van Persie dropped a little deeper. Having racked up 29 goals in the previous 10, with at least two goals per game over that run, the visitors were snuffed out for the first time since Gameweek 1. Three favourable fixtures in the next four look set to offer Van Persie a chance to rectify tonight’s blip – this was the first time he has failed to produce a goal or assist when starting a league game for United.

If you got the top scorers in all positions and kept all season you still wouldn't win, its about moving them in and out at the right times.

he's pretty consistent, though not nailed on per say. He's started on the bench for 3 games at random times (not all in one stretch), and he gets subbed a bit at the end of games, but he's a handy one to have if you're just gonna bench him all the time. 4 assists and a goal (and another that should have been credited to him a few weeks ago)....

rarely make a good transfer close to deadline but today went valencia to walcott which worked nicely.

having watched valencia today, and as others have said on here, he looks very very flat. seems to get caught in 2 minds all the time, and all in all, is just really off form. the stats might say he's getting loads of ball in final third etc, but he's doing f all with it.

Currently got 2 million, that would go to about 1.5 with those moves. Can't help but wish I could afford to get Sterling and Aguero, but I'd have to find about 0,5 extra to do that. Main rival has Hernandez Tevez and Suarez up front, want Aguero in to cover off Tevez

I would have sacked him after the West Ham game.

If not then, I certainly would have sacked him at half time against Arsenal where we had no ambition to attack an Arsenal team that was ripe for the taking and low on confidence.

TF is as much to blame here as his transfer strategy in the off season was appalling. It should be a step up for players to come to QPR not a last stop to top up your pension before you retire. Style and spin was employed at the expense of substance and selling shirts in Asia to fickle followers.

We are a shipwreck of a club right now and probably today has killed any hopes we may have had of staying up. Already 5 points behind the team above the relegation zone who have played 1 game less than us. Only team in all 4 divisions without a win.

        So angry and disappointed tonight.

You could wait 1 week on enrique and get him in for Baines instead.

    begovic (mannone)
    baines rafael culler (demel davies)
    sterling nasri cazorla michu (fellaini)
    rvp ba berba

    have 0.7m in the bank.

wanna get rid of nasri so will have 8.8m to spend bt cant think of a big hitter in that range. so shd i jus keep nasri and will get city cover thru him.

or shd i take a hit to do ba + nasri >> tevez + any mid up to 7.6 for a hit

Red arrow for me, that's quite a high average considering most players had Rvp (c) fail.

Seems like a lot of sob stories this GW after a lot of the forgotten men of FF finally produced- namely Tevez, Michu, Aguero, Bale, Santi and some others.

Remember though, it's a marathon not a sprint. Mata and RVP will be back playing and scoring. If your team is good then it hasn't suddenly become crap because you don't have any city players or you left Sterling on the bench.

Don't go chasing points gone by and taking 8 point hits to get in Silva, Giroud and Tevez- who you sold last week. City won't play Villa at home again all season and Arsenal won't play 10 men every week. Stay strong my brethren!

But do get Suarez at all costs 😉

This is the first time that Enrique has been employed at the wings right? Is he going to hold onto the position after today's performance?

He played very well! I'm strongly considering Baines -> Enrique before gwk 15!
