Watchlist

The Watchlist – Steven Fletcher

Having failed to find the net in each of his previous five Gameweeks, Steven Fletcher picked the perfect occasion to get his bandwagon up and running ahead of Sunderland’s strong upcoming schedule. A goal and assist at Fulham finally ended the drought that had seen the Scot fall off Fantasy radars but his return to scoring ways at the Cottage last Sunday has led to plenty new investment this midweek:

With the Wearsiders set to welcome four teams to the Stadium of Light in the next four, including a double Gameweek 16 also on the cards, the appeal of a forward who has had a hand in 70% of his side’s goals is obvious. Granted, the Black Cats have only notched 10 times but with six goals and an assist to his name, Fletcher has averaged six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points per game since moving to the club from Wolves last summer.

Indeed, the lack of goalscoring alternatives amongst Martin O’Neill’s charges makes Fletcher all the more enticing an option. Every time he’s found the net, he has also picked up maximum bonus points – a total of 15 is the equal of Robin Van Persie and has been bettered by just one player, Carlos Tevez (16), over the opening 12 Gameweeks of the season. This has boosted Fletcher’s FPL total to 60 points – considering John O’Shea is his closest outfield rival at Sunderland, with 35 points, it’s fair to say that the forward stands head and shoulders above his team mates right now.

While O’Neill is desperate to address the lack of attacking edge that has mustered just three goals in four fixtures at the Stadium of Light this term, the defensive form of their upcoming visitors affords optimism. West Brom and QPR roll up next and, with neither side managing an away clean sheet so far, Sunderland will be confident before a tricky trip to Norwich, given the Canaries’ recent resolve at the back. Chelsea and Reading then arrive in double Gameweek 16. Similar to West Brom and QPR, the Royals have conceded in every away fixture so far, while Chelsea have failed to keep out their opponents since Gameweek 5.

Priced at 7.0 in FPL and 7.7 in the Sky Sports game, Fletcher offers an intriguing mid-price alternative to the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and Rickie Lambert over the short-term, at least. O’Neill’s side could hardly wish for more obliging opponents over the next few home fixtures and if the Black Cats are to scramble up the table, it’s more than likely that Fletcher will have a significant say.

Would cost me 0.3 to get him back, but I'd really like to have more than Michu and Bale from my front 8 playing at home in the next two GWs.

if Fletcher does well over the next 4 weeks surely he will see some more investments and get your some money to fund buying berba back.

Yeah, I know, but tinkering with my team, it's either him or Noble to go, and Noble is so handy to have on the bench. I don't want to have a "which 6-7M player to have on the bench scoring 10+ pts"-dilemma every week.

I sold Fletcher for Ruiz last week - obviously that backfired about as much as it's possible to do. Decided to swallow my pride and get him back in for this gameweek.

Did the same earlier in the season when I sold RVP for Aguero, then did the reverse a few weeks later. I reckon those two transfers have knocked a good 1M off my team value...

I look ahead and think "who could come into form and reap good points". I don't think "who's scoring loads of points". I think those fixtures and their result last week offer a good chance for Sunderland to get into some form and Sess got 7 goals and 12 assists last season.

So we are in the same boat, I look at something like this too. But I just think people around here are getting carried away with all the fixture thing. It just looks too good to be true and is set up perfectly for a huge dissapointment. Or I will look like a fool in a few weeks 🙂

I would look at a Southampton mid, Ramirez or Lallana, Also Sterling should be owned. If you like a punt and a differ so much that you are looking at sunderland I would maybe look at Ashley young if you can afford it.

Sunderland have played 4 home games Won 1, Drawn 2 and lost 1.
So it is Not easy to write them off all together. 8 away games played and lost 2.
I agree that they are well short of exciting, but Cueller, Sess & Fletcher look very good value to me.

If I was so inclined, I'd spank a monkey on an AJ over a Sess. AJ wants to put money in thy purse, whereas The Sess has sunk.

Hmmm... I guess it all comes down to this:

      a) go with my The Sess man crush
      b) go with AJ on personal FPL predicted point haul

Would you play Cameron or Ridgewell considering I have Berba and Sess? Also have Begovic in net.

Berba imo, great player, but fixtures are poor, and hes missing the creativity of Ruiz and Kacaniklic

Stoke and Chelsea away with Fulham missing key players, where as Ba is away to Southampton then Stoke with Newcastle missing key players. Chelsea > Southampton so....

      Berbatov.

Wouldn't play Ridgewell, personally, but might double up on Stoke if there weren't any better options.

guys, Walcott out leaves me with either playing Sterling (not a catastrophe) or bringing in AJ, Sess, Valencia or someone of the like. Save transfer or bring someone in?

    Rest of team is

    Bego (Mannone)
Baines / Cuellar / Rafa (Ridge / Staylor)
Mata / Ramirez / Nolan / WALCOTT (Sterling)
    RVP / Ba / Jelly

    0.2m in bank, thanks
