The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety – Subtle

Maybe I underestimated Granville. Maybe his throwaway comment made at 10.32 on a weary Wednesday evening wasn’t throwaway at all. Maybe Granville is a Fantasy football mind games genius.

Regardless of whether his plan was pre-meditated and devious, it certainly worked as you’ll find out in this, episode ninety of the ScoutCast.

Aside from my sidekick’s scheming, we give dear old Leighton another rinse following his twanged hamstring, tackle the template midfield yet again, check on the market movements in “all aboard” and, of course, look forward to the weekend action. We also start spending points on the ScoutCast team: it’s the slippery slope. Where’s Granville’s genius when you need it?

Reveal the evil plan via this link or simply stream this latest episode on the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

OK, not getting much replies and I'm going travelling tomorrow, so any help most appreciated. How can I improve this team?

    Jussi
    Baines / Enrique / Nelsen
    Bale / Walcott / Fell / Sterling
    RVP (C) / Tevez (VC) / Berba

    Subs: Bego, Sess, Gorkss, Clyne

    1FT, £0.3m in bank

    A) Baines + Tevez -> Gibbs (Nasty/Rafa) + Suarez for hit
    B) Tevez + someone else -> Suarez + someone else for hit
    C) Go sleep and forget about Suarez price rise

A little perspective for those going out of their minds about transfers. Here's my friend's team

      looks real solid

Caz could prob be replaced by someone with better value, maybe even someone on his own team. Ba may need attention in the near future and I assume Fletcher is gone in 3 weeks time.

        Thanks,

Was looking at doing Caz to Theo depending on how Ars goes. Really want to do that transfer but Caz always performs right before I'm about to make the swap. Yup, Fletcher back to Berba. Had Fletch from last 2 gw and plan was to ditch after the double GW. Thinking of sticking with Ba, but If Cisse starts scoring again ill need to drop.

2nd keeper Ruddy, but never swap so don't understand the need for two keepers.

Podolski being dropped and walcott playing in his position is my concern. Will podolski come in and see walcott out?

I very much doubt this will be the case since walcott started and scored last game.

Then there is the "injury" although yes the website suggests he ok.

All things pointing towards walcott starting then 🙂

I think Wenger will be more attacking at home to Swansea than away to Everton, meaning I expect the front 6 to be:

given my squad i'm strongly considering an 8pter this week

    bego, foster
    baines, sagna, rafa, saylor, demel
    sess, afro, pienaar, sterling, maloney
    rvp, ba, lambert
4.6 in the bank and 1ft

so here's my thinking: given i have 3 defenders injured and one not nailed on i'm thinking of getting rid of baines and sagna for two of enrique, nastasic, and gibbs so that i am sure i'll have 3 defenders to start this week

then i want to shift pienaar for either walcott or bale. pienaar has returned 2pts the last 5 weeks, the week before that he was suspended from the rc (and -1pt week) he had the week before whereas bale and walcott are both playing very well and have the potential to be explosive and both have good fixtures

and then i'd still have enough left if i want to ship ba for suarez after this gw

what do you guys think? does it all make sense?

      So is that basically;

over the next 2 weeks? I like it.

I would just do the -4 for the defenders. It's a tough choice that, Maybe Enrique and Nasty as how long will it be until Gibbs is injured again.

but you agree that both defensive transfers are necessary right?

hmmm. see the thing is that pienaar is certain to draw a blank again, afro might draw a blank too as its against city. just think that walcott or bale have the potential to pay off the hit (as walcott would have this week but i held off unfortunately) and it gets me a ft down the road. would you go bale or walcott if you had to pick though?

yeahh good point! only concern with nasty is if he gets rotated... but i guess that's the case with any city player bar hart and kompany

just do -4. Baines to enrique, pienaar to Walcott.

Or, if you are bent on -8, make sure one of your defensive transfers is to a cheapie, at least Cuellar/Cameron, so you can upgrade one of Sterling/Maloney as well. Too much in DF

but if i just do baines to enrique then i'll only have enrique and rafa playing this weekend since saylor is out for like 6 weeks i believe, sagna is 25%, and i dont know what's up with demel...

i was thinking of perhaps downgrading maloney to puncheon if puncheon keeps up his returns. and if i go walcott over bale then i'll have approx 1.3 or 1.4 or somewhere around there depending on price changes after i do ba to suarez next week

who would you suggest getting in for maloney though?

demel is a fine shout for the weekend. I actually don't like the Gibbs/Nasty move. I think its got to go cheaper, eventually. Maloney to Puncheon works well. Both of these moves would help you get more money in your MF. Something to the tune of Walcott AND Bale.

Assuming Walcott is passed fit, I'm taking a big gamble and doing Baines & Michu -> Enrique & Walcott (for free).

It pains me to lose Michu's value, but his fixtures aren't great and I fancy Walcott to outscore him in the run-in to the Jan wildcard. Baines' injury and fixtures make the switch to Enrique fairly straight forward (assuming he carries on at left wing)...

This'll leave me with the below this week - captaincy and subs right?

    Jaask
    Enrique, Hughes, Cuellar
    Bale, Silva, Walcott(v), Taarabt
    RVP(c), Ba, Fletcher

    Federici, Fellaini, McCartney, Clyne

Captain and VC look right. I'd still play Afro over Taarabt, but with your set-up, you will always have a benching issue in midfield.

You know I am not a fan of the transfer but let's see what Moyes says tomorrow about Baines...

I think any other fixture than Man City away and I probably would. They're so stingy at home, and never lose there. Also, if Baines is out then Fellaini's supply is noticeably reduced.

Taarabt is at home to a fairly poor AVL side. Is on pens (I think) and will want to impress 'Arry. I think I have to start him. I was closer to switching Fletcher out for Fellaini than Taarabt if I'm honest.

Some notes possibly relevant to Ba and Stoke owners...

Looking at the average positions for the Stoke v Newcastle game provides some interesting formation information for both teams.

First, Newcastle appeared to be playing something closest to 4-3-3. A 4-4-2 with Anita at right wing pushed up so far he looks like a right forward, and Gutierrez provides the width in midfield at left wing. What happened to Anita is exactly what happened to Ben arfa last year when pardew played 4-3-3. Obviously Anita is likely to be replaced in that position by Ben Arfa if they try that again when Ben Arfa is back.

Ba is playing on the left of the 4-3-3, Cisse just about in the middle. It is notable that Cisse scored there and Ba got the assist. Again, last year Cisse went on his scoring run as the central striker in a 4-3-3 while Ba stopped scoring.

That said 4-3-3 may not be the long term plan this year, and it could always turn out differently. I'm not saying anything is certain.

Secondly, Stoke really are updating their playing style. Instead of 4-4-1-1, they once again played 4-2-3-1 with Etherington, Adam and Walters the attacking 3 midfielders. Shotton was very high at right back. Crouch was surprisingly deep, behind Adam. Probably contributing in the air a la fellaini.

Surely fantasy managers are rewarded for being quick on the uptake, but accepting and investing in an "attacking" stoke... that's a hard sell (walking the tightrope between madness/genius). My prejudices won't let me process any of Etherington, Adam, Walters as an option.

Looks like Demel might be back in the first XI. Would you start him over Santon given Newcastle's poor form even though West Ham have Chelsea? Santon probably has the greater attacking threat but they are just so poor at the moment

No. I'd definitely start Santon there. Wigan aren't prolific away from home, and despite the anti-Chelsea chat, they still have more than enough to score against West Ham imo. Also, Santon is more attacking than Demel, and he's nailed on. If Demel, McCartney & O'Brien are all fit, I'm not sure who misses out....

The scoutcast brought up the fact that Chelsea have had 3 shots on target on their last 2 home games. That is pretty shocking and West Ham are decent at home. Saying that i am also favouring Santon at the moment

I thought santon had attacking threat from a few games last year but he's turned out to have almost none. Even Simpson pushes up more, santon does a solid defensive job on the left. It's not helped by the Newcastle being very lopsided in attack to the right (Gutierrez plays defensively)

I still think Newcastle have better cs chances - play santon.

    Tremmel / Begovic
    Rafael / BAINES / SANGA / Nelsen / Gorkss
    Bale / Santi / Fellaini / Lallana / Sterling
Giroud / Van Persie / DEFOE

2 FT, £0.8m in the bank.

So basically, I have 2 expensive, potentially crocked defenders, so do here's what I was thinking...

    A) Baines, Sagna and Defoe –> Enrique, BJones and Suarez (-4), leaving enough to do Gorkss –> Cuellar next week.
    B) Baines, Santi and Defoe –> Enrique, Walcott and Suarez (-4) and hope that Sagna plays or isn't out for long. No money for Cuellar unless I downgrade.
    C) Baines and Defoe –> BJones and Suarez for free, same as above with Sagna, but money for Cuellar.

    Thoughts?

Nastasic = EVE MANU new REA sun nor STO ars FUL qpr
Gibbs/Mert = SWA WBR rea wig WHU NEW sou MCI che LIV

All look like good options under 5.5 up until Jan wildcard. Which one do I choose? (already have Enrique & don't want to double on Stoke). Thanks...
