Spot the Differential – Gameweek 15

As a frantic Friday nears its end, we roll out our regular ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline. After our midweek headliner, Charlie Adam, failed to fire in Stoke’s win over Newcastle, we’re putting in faith in Harry Redknapp’s main man up top as the new QPR boss aims to earn his new side their first win of the season…

Djibril Cisse

The Frenchman’s form in the second half of last season was a key factor in QPR’s escape from relegation. Arriving at Loftus Road from Serie A side Lazio in the January transfer window, Cisse ensured every one of his league appearances was unforgettable – he scored in six of his eight matches and was sent off in the two games he failed to find the net in.

This time round, his impact has been minimal. Mark Hughes’ summer spending spree left the R’s with almost too many options throughout the side, with an inconsistency of selection harvesting a series of dire displays. After starting the first two Gameweeks, Cisse found himself behind Bobby Zamora in the pecking order for the lone frontman role in Hughes’ preferred 4-4-1-1 formation but with Zamora now sidelined for three months after undergoing a hip operation and Hughes now out on his ear, Cisse looks set to be a pivotal figure for new boss Harry Redknapp as the Londoners attempt to beat the drop again.

Redknapp’s first official match in charge last Tuesday saw Esteban Granero moved further up the field, tucking in behind the Frenchman, and with Adel Taarabt also tasked with supplying creativity, Cisse could be set for an upturn in fortunes as the Loftus Road outfit go in search of their first win of the season. Tomorrow’s visit of Villa, followed by a trip to Wigan, affords Redknapp the perfect opportunity to make up ground on his relegation rivals. If Cisse can replicate last season’s goal returns, his stock would rise considerably – priced at 5.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, and with an ownership of around 1% in both games, he’s a differential with plenty to play for.

Chris Brunt

It’s been a stop-start season for the West Brom midfielder, with calf and hamstring complaints curtailing his game time dramatically. Prior to Gameweek 11, Brunt had managed just a single start for the Baggies but, finally fit and injury-free, has made a significant stake for a regular role and could well be set to offer a viable alternative to James Morrison in Steve Clarke’s midfield.

The Northern Ireland international has now started three of the last four and has provided an assist in each of those games, outgunning Morrison by 16 FPL points to 13 over the period in question. A proven Fantasy performer, Brunt has produced six goals, 19 assists and 33 FPL bonus points over the previous two campaigns – he has also been handed a substantial share of corner kicks upon his return, furthering his appeal.

Priced at 5.5 in FPL and 6.1 in the Sky Sports game, Brunt has an ownership of less than 1% in both games and ahead of a run of three home fixtures in the next four (STK, ars, WHM, NOR) could be set for further returns as Clarke looks to cement his side’s spot amongst the top four.

Robert Snodgrass

While the Norwich backline have picked up the plaudits after a recent run of superb defensive displays, their summer signing from Leeds United has proven to be their most consistent attacking performer. Snodgrass welcomes Sunderland to Carrow Road this weekend on the back of a goal and double figure points haul at Southampton – this took his tally to 49 FPL points for the campaign, only three less than the Canaries top scoring defender, Javier Garrido.

Since returning to the first-team in Gameweek 10 after a brief omission, he has played a part in two of Norwich’s four strikes – with free kicks and corners also in his locker, the Scot’s creativity and eye for goal are clearly crucial to his side’s attacking endeavours as Hughton makes keeping out opponents a priority. Priced at 5.8 in FPL with a 1% ownership, Snodgrass also has games against Swansea and Wigan on the horizon to further boost his appeal over the short-term, at least.

What's everyone having a bet on this w/e?

My main bet is 50quid treble:

fulham vs spurs - both teams to score

arsenal vs swansea - both teams to score

    man city to win

    just over 3/1 returns around 215 🙂

    Hey Deadzone,
    Need some advice on Suarez....
I have Tevez, who I can sell for 9.2m
I have 1.3m in the bank, and have used my free transfer...
I can get Suarez for a 4 point hit at current price...but if he rises again i'm screwed....
Wanted to get him in next week for a free transfer...
FISO has him at 84 percent....and he'll miss this price rise now
Q: Will he rise to 10.6m at close-off ? Thereby screwing me totally....?

If you definitely want to do the Tevez>Suarez swap, u may aswell do it now before southampton.. if he scores tomorrow he will rise even more and you'll end up taking a hit next week anyway

Still be 10.5 after tomorrow's matches but will likely rise before you get your FT unless he picks up a booking.

logical explanation i would say, anyway if you are far behind >100 pts then maybe need to react fast now or use WC once available in Jan reshuffle your team even though if you still have (existing ONE but plan for later use)

so in order to catch up your mini league leader then either to gamble/differential for capt pick base on your gut feeling lol or just follow bandwagon ?? good luck and all the best !!

        cheers.

If everyone can just raise their heads from the porridge bowls of Suarez love for a second, and comment on this stat:

Doesn't matter about how many mins he plays, if he plays 50 and scores and Suarez plays 90 and scores, Suarez gets more points, may of played 40 extra mins but its all about points. Also Tevez has high rotational risk shown last 2 games played 20 mins, Suarez will play every min of every game that he is available for

So you are saying you'd rather have Tevez? After all he has more points. He also scores more points per minutes he plays.

Tevez minutes per point: 10min 39sec
Suarez minutes per point: 14min 57sec

Nope i'd rather have Suarez i dont care about points per minute, at the start of the season Tevez was City's main forward (i had Tevez at this time) therefore got a lot of his points then, Suarez was very unlucky at the start of the season. Now Suarez is scoring for fun and with Liverpool's fixtures coming up he will score far more than Tevez who will most likely only start around half the games Suarez does. I would put big money on Suarez outscoring Tevez in the next 5 gameweeks

Difficult to argue with these stats. Last three games Suarez has played all 3 games and clocked up 286 minutes to Teves' 112 but the key fact is that Suarez only scored 15 points and Tevez 20.

Tevez started as city's main striker though. Is like to see such a comparison for the past 5/8 games!!!
Suarez is bang on form now and was just simply unlucky earlier in the season!

I have a few decisions that I have made with regards to selection, but wouldn't mind some input from you guys...

    Begovic
    Nastasic Cuellar McCartney
    Silva Bale Walcott Sterling
    RVP Suarez(c) Fletcher

    Tremmel Fellaini Hughes Cameron

Points of note - I've decided to play Cuellar ahead of Hughes since I can't see Spurs not scoring, especially with Hangeland still out (Hughes will come in anyway if McCartney is out)... and Sterling/Fletcher both ahead of Fellaini...

    Doth the community concur?

I'd play Fellaini over Fletcher but it's a very tough decision.
Agree with playing Cuellar over Hughes.

I would normally be inclined to agree, but I had this annoyingly compelling vision about Fletcher scoring 2 goals this weekend and getting 13pts, so I have to stick him in... he still looks fairly threatening with his chances...

Also, since I got Nastasic this week, it brings up another similar situation I'd like to avoid in defenders and attackers from opposing teams clashing... I think Citeh will keep a CS tbh...

        Thanks Mull...

        Thanks Suarez(c)...

Incidentally, would this be an appropriate time to ask you to score a hat-trick for me this weekend?

definitely jussi. norwich always seem to get at least one goal at home. holt is very overdue. but they but norwich wont get many shots in so jussi gets more saves. also chelski shut out at home by a previously horrible defense in fulham and west ham defense really solid at home. shut out city just a couple weeks ago for instance.

Should I wait til next week to get Bale and Walcott in? Could do both for -8

I've done Baines > Enrique, no frees left. Midfield of Silva, Sessegnon, Fellaini, Michu. 3mil in the bank.

Thinking of getting Bale next week and Walcott the week after, hopefully Sessegnon can do something in the DGW.

Never do an 8pt transfer unless it is absolutely necessary. Like you have multiple long term injuries and need to fill holes.

That said... if you are low in rank and are only playing for fun then I see no harm in taking a punt.
I like your midfield and don't see a need for a hit personally.

looking at these transfers over next few weeks - struggling to find an order to do them in. which ones first you reckon?

    mata - walcott
    maloney - bale
    wilkinson STK - nastastic
    rafael - enrique
    tevez - long (for funds)

at the moment i've brought walcott and nastastic in for -4...!! (just love the look of arse fixtures)

    what do YOU think?!!
