Versus – Rooney and Van Persie

As Man United approach an eye-catching run of games which could potentially see Sir Alex Ferguson’s side rack up the Fantasy returns, Wayne Rooney has staked a strong claim for consideration after bagging a brace for the second Gameweek in succession. Rooney’s stock has suffered a significant drop this season due to the arrival of Robin Van Persie but as the campaign unfolds, he’s starting to look a real differential, with many Fantasy managers even considering both forwards for a run of games which sees the Red Devils welcome Sunderland, Newcastle and West Brom to Old Trafford, in addition to trips to Swansea and Wigan in the next five:

Considering RVP to Rooney and Gorkss to Glen Johnson.

    Ok. Here's my theory;
On the bench Reading had Pearce, and not Gorkss. And when Morrison got injured Pearce came on. Pearce also played in that position the first four matches of the season. So if Morrison is injured tonight the logic would be to start Pearce, and promote Gorkss to the bench. Am I right? So if I am I just need to hope he stays there, and not comes on. And if none of the central defenders gets injured tonight, why would he sub one of them?

Depends if they take a lead, he might chuck Gorkss on to protect the lead and give them extra protection in the air.

Team for next week, what would you do? No transfers made, 3.1m in the bank.

Have a feeling both Enrique and Bale will play and pretty sure I'm comfortable with benching Mata. Any obvious areas to invest the spare dollar?

    Begovic (Cerny)

Enrique - Garrido - Cameron (Shorey, Demel)

Michu - Fellaini - Bale - Sterling (Mata)

    RVP (c) - Berbasloth - Suarez (vc)

The problem i have found is that by spending 13M plus i have felt obliged to give him the armband every week to my own detriment.

With the Xmas program coming, i am sure that RVP will rest at least one game. SAF believes that Rooney plays better with lots of games.

    Great article.

No offence to people doubling up on Rooney and RVP but if Rooney had only scored one goal this weekend would you have done it? It's classic knee-jerking and one 2 pointer will have you selling one of them in a rage. Yeah it would have worked the last two weeks. But owning Rooney alone would have been better. Why not just have the guts to go for Rooney as a differential and save some money...not dilly dally about it and be constantly in limbo.

One Welbeck/Hernandez brace in a 2-0 win will have you wanting to bury your head in the sand. Just sayin'

RVP and Rooney are the two best forwards in the game. I don't think it's because people are unsure on which one, it's because they want to maximise their points. It takes balls to double up, which indicates decisiveness. Rooney was coming into my team before his big hauls.

I had Rooney and RVP for GW13-14, for what it's worth. Raging.

Rafael coming off my bench would be a great birthday present. Rest that ankle, Fletcher.

Anyone know if Gunter was dropped or just injured? In other words, is he likely to come back into the team any time soon?

    Thanks

a funny trend i've noticed is how mariappa and cummings have started the exact same games and therefore missed the exact same games. so gunter has never played with mariappa, i'm wonering if it's an intentional partnership by the manager. if so gorkks being out of favour would not be a good thing for gunter and it cements mariappa's spot more

Tonight will show record levels of interest in the Sunderland bench.

If as expected Fletcher doesn't start tons of managers will be praying for a late cameo off the bench. I do think given he has been training and reading really is must win (look at their fixtures after that - they're toast) MON is going to find it very difficult not to even put him in the squad.

Agree, even if he's not fit enough to start he'll surely be on the bench. If they're not winning, expect a late cameo.

I'm certain he will be on the bench and will get 15 mins if the result isn't secure by then.

So, just looking at ideas for owning RVP/Rooney, how does:

Sess & Berbs out for Morrison & Rooney

    Leaves me:

    Foster / Bego
    Enrique Cuellar Clyne Demel Shorey
    Silva Michu Fell Sterling Morrison
    RVP Rooney Suarez

      Why Morrison?

Nice fixtures? Could do Snodgrass or any other mid for 6.9?
