Versus – Rooney and Van Persie

As Man United approach an eye-catching run of games which could potentially see Sir Alex Ferguson’s side rack up the Fantasy returns, Wayne Rooney has staked a strong claim for consideration after bagging a brace for the second Gameweek in succession. Rooney’s stock has suffered a significant drop this season due to the arrival of Robin Van Persie but as the campaign unfolds, he’s starting to look a real differential, with many Fantasy managers even considering both forwards for a run of games which sees the Red Devils welcome Sunderland, Newcastle and West Brom to Old Trafford, in addition to trips to Swansea and Wigan in the next five:

I have the same concern. I am holding until GW18 when Mata/Hazard (or Bale) return. This is a sort of 'put up or shut up' week for me with him.

Vote for best differential this next 2, maybe 3 weeks:

    A. Dempsey (since Bale is inj + in form)
    B. Valencia (good fixtures, sure starter imo and gotta start producing)
    C. A.Young (good fixtures, maybe in better for than Vale)
    D. Yaya Toure (sure starter, gotta start doing smthng or shity is going down)
    E. Some1 else

    What rur thoughts ?

Okay then at Unreal's request. Spurs defence.

First, we haven't kept many CS but at the same time we don't concede a huge number of chances. This indicates that an upturn in CS could come and with Lloris between the sticks I am more confident of this.

Additionally we've been guilty of letting our attention drop in the last 10 minutes however we have Parker returning. Now, I don't expect Parker to displace Sandro or Dembele as starters (although he may afford them some rest over xmas) however he will be used as a sub around 70 minutes to spur the team on and throw himself in front of the inevitably nervy onslaught.

Walker has started to get back to somewhere near what he's capable of. Good news as well. 6.1 possibly too much for somebody who offers fleeting goal threat, but does offer fairly consistent crosses. Same goes for BAE when he returns.

Vertonghen is a beast. He's about as nailed on as you can get and when BAE returns from injury will move to CB where he is more natural. BAE hasn't played for the reserves yet however so this may yet be a couple of weeks away. Now at 6.3 he's dearer than Walker or BAE but he does pop off a lot more shots than Walker and has some set-piece duties. A punt but one that may be worthy of consideration.

Now the main interest: Caulker. Now he's much more appealingly priced at 4.9. He also has a lot of aerial threat. Issue is how much of a rotation risk is he? Now I believe that he is first choice but is not nailed on. He's started to show his age a little bit in the past couple of games. Whilst he's a much better option than Gallas and will play the majority of games - he will be given some rest over xmas. Now whether that is 2/5 or 1/5 remains to be seen and would probably affect your decision. Given that BAE may still not return for a couple of weeks I'd wager it will be 1/5.

Oh and the captaincy thing is a non-issue and should be banished from discussion. Dawson is club captain and has spent most the season on the bench. Gallas is the most experienced player and so has been captain when on the pitch but was benched too. It really isn't an important factor in AVB's decision making.

Wouldn't be surprised, Gallas is dopey IMO.

I know on paper chances conceded haven't been that bad despite the lack of cs. But do you think AVB is going to change his leakiness in the Prem? The cs have gone pretty much according to the extrapolations from his leaky time at Chelsea.

Have to play Cuellar and Mig this week to get 11 out due to the World Club fixtures. Already got Saurez in with my 1 free, but having read about Rooney vs Sunderland I'm rather scared having double Sunderland now! Are either of these worth the 4 point hit??:-

    Mig>Bego (have Shawy)
    Mig>Jussi
    Cuellar>Huth (have Shawy)
    Cuellar>Nasty

The Nasty option grabs me. I have the exact money with Cuellar out. Got to be nailed with Kompany out? Assuming Cuellar scores 1 point, I will need a cleanie off Nasty to gain 1 point with the 4 point hit, but at least I will have it done before a price rise mucks me up. In the event of a Sunderland capitulation and Cuellar scoring nothing, and City conceding, I figure it's only cost me 2 points??

Worth the gamble? Or sit it out a week?

With that dilemma, I might think about Nastasic, even as counterintuitive it is to take a hit for a defender. It's hard to see anything but a tonking for Sunderland in that game. I think Nastasic is first choice and it is a long term move presumably. Mignolet should wrack up a few save points, so no need to mess with him.

Lloris - Walker - Caulker - Gallas - Vert - Lennon - Sandro - Dembele - Bale - Adebayor - Defoe. In the same formation as Arsenal away.

just stop and ask yourself, shane long...for a hit. never mind the strikers you have are fine and have good fixtures as well, it's always a bad idea.

Rooneys gonna be fired up this weekend....

from his book ""If there is one team that i want to beat this season it will be Sunderland...when the fixtures come out I usually check 3 fixtures..City, Liverpool and Everton..this year I even checked Sunderland"

He wants revenge for the fans doing the Poznan on last day of season when they lost the league in injury time..could make him a good (c) choice.

Best Arsenal defender to have? Was thinking Sagna, but he really doesn't seem nailed on with rumours of his departure, so thinking Mertesacker or Gibbs?

Not considering Verm, mert to be safest, Gibbs is virtually as safe IMO - only Verm to cover at lb since Santos is a joke. More attacking potential from Gibbs.

Are there any standouts in the low/mid-priced forward brackets yet?

I need to move Lambert on as I'll struggle to field a full 11 otherwise (I'm also holding Puncheon and Mata who won't play) but I have no idea. I can stretch to £8.5m.

My other strikers are Rooney/Aguero and I have Ba, Berbatov, Benteke, Kone, Defoe, Giroud on my shortlist, but they all seem to have their own problems.

Probably Berbatov is first on my list if he drops again this week and I can pick him up cut price, but should I be looking more closely at any of those others?

I had a look at some of these players last week and it seemed like Long was splitting his returns with Lukaku.

Berbatov still seems the standout, but I'm liking Lambert as well. Benteke is good, but they're just not scoring enough goals consistently. Ba has really tough fixtures, but could shine through.

If I had to pick this week, I'd go with Defoe and worry about rotation/dropping when it happens. Or consider a hit and going up one price bracket.

All of those are decent options although I am not too high on Giroud for the price. Ba has a difficult schedule ahead and Benteke looks to have gone off the boil. Defoe looks your best bet to me - Tottenham have a good short-term schedule. I really like Kone in the games I have seen him but I don't know what the Wigan schedule looks like. You might think about Shane Long too.
