The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Two – Double Top

While I was “driving home for Christmas”, Granville was recovering from a breathless double Gameweek that left him just above the average; his humble target achieved, he’s now got to patch up his injury ravaged squad and contend with all my crazy Wildcard talk.

Wayne Rooney’s form is the catalyst for such a revolution in my squad, as we discuss the benefits of doubling up on the United men up top. There’s the usual foray into the transfer market with “all board”, the preview of the weekend fixtures and the latest attempt to revive the corpse of the ScoutCatst team: Granville is the surgeon this week and he’s spending some points.

Put all your eggs in our United basket by clicking this link or, alternatively, stream the liquid honey via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Do we think Defoe is going to be nailed on for the next month or so and play WITH Adebayor, or is he likely to be rotated and rested a bit?

      Impossible to tell with AVB. My impression is he liked to play a 4-3-3 like Barcelona, with a high defensive line, and didn't like 4-4-2. Then Adebayor came back and he came under pressure from supporters not to drop Defoe. AND the 4-4-2 has been working with Defoe scoring goals.

      But if he does go 4-4-2 and play them both it means Bale is starting a bit deeper as no longer part of a front three

        Good summary. It's not quite the Barca model he's after but still 4-4-2 isn't ideologically where he wants to be.

        I want some Spurs cover, and drafting Bale back in will prove difficult cash-wise, plus his injury doubt, so I am considering Defoe as my Spurs cover through to the Jan WC.

        The move would be Fletcher ---> Defoe.

          Yes, Granville's chances of an Ian Wright style late career in top flight football are under threat.

    A) Sess & Fletcher -> Sterling & Rooney (4 points), or

    B) Fletcher -> Suarez

    A) seems the safe choice, but MUN look irresistable going forwards, and Rooney is on form and pens, and I’d still get some LIV attacking cover in Sterling…..

    For those saying Vidic will be eased back in. Whilst this seems sensible, didn't he make his return around the same time last year and then play a load of games on the bounce?

      Well he played the first 4 or 5 games this season and got a bad reaction to the injury. So it makes sense to ease him in especially since Jones and Smalling are now fit which they weren't in August.

        plus he is so important, he will be eased in, given 60 minutes here and there and utilised or saved for the big matches,

        Evans and Smalling are now capable of holding their own in mid so vida can be rested if needs be

        Enrique = ?

        Gorkss = Non Start

        Fonte = No game

        Cuellar = -pts

        McAuley = +pts

        If I don't get rid of Cuellar and Gorkss, it could be extremely costly.

        Was thinking of Baines and Evra

          Yes, Enrique is a doubt. You play McAuley, Cuellar you might want to play next week before getting rid, same goes for Fonte. So I would say priority is to get out Gorkss, who might not start again for a while with both Morrison, Mariappa and Pearce before him in the pecking order.

      Not one of the 88 but Reading are horrible at defending and Cazorla has produced the goods away from home several times already this season, seems a reasonable option.

        It would be a reasonable shout normally but as has been proven already this season Arsenal can win handsomely without Caz gaining attacking points and Arsenal are in awful form.

          Who can you not say that of though (team x able to win handsomely without player y)? It's true of every team and every player.

          Arsenal's form is poor but so is Reading's.

          For the record I'm captaining RVP 🙂

      Away to a poor defenced Reading, and he is OOP. Gotta admit, I as tempted to go with Walcott if I knew he was fit (ahead of RVP and Suarez)

    I'm torn between RVP and Suarez for captain.

    United have a low-scoring record against Sunderland, and Rooney's form could see him nick the points away from RVP. However with Bardsley,Rose and Johnson doubts, it could be to United's advantage. Sunderland have conceded 21 goals, 11 of them coming from away games - meaning they either tighten up on the road, or they're poor at home.

    Suarez has form and everything seems to go through him during the game. If Sterling is benched (as suspected) it might do wonders for him having other in-form and more experienced players on the wing like Cole (questionably) and Shelvey. Villa have conceded 23 goals, 15 of these in away games.

      RVP has a good goalscoring record vs. Sunderland. United are realllllly looking forward to this game as there is a sense of hatred for the Sunderland fans.

      Hmm that last fact is quite interesting. Many people have said that Villa are looking solid of late but 3 of their last 4 games have been at home, and the one away was at QPR.
