The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Three – Wrapped Up

Possibly the most un-Christmas-like Christmas Podcast we’ve ever recorded, thanks mainly to Granville being banned from editing in the entire MP3 of Dean Martin’s “Let it Snow” but also because neither of us had time to sort our pressies. To be fair, I’m surprised that Granville felt an ounce Christmas spirit after Santi’s showing at Reading opened up a 40-point “chasm” in our min-league. Do I have it all wrapped up already?

To his credit, my co-host takes it all on his bearded chin, joining me to discuss the Felliani fallout, its impact on the transfer trends in “all aboard”, a preview of the weekend fixtures and provided his assistance in the management of the ScoutCast team: an outfit which plundered no less than 80 points thanks to Santi’s haul and Reading’s bulging net.

Unitie the bow and rip this one open via this link, or stream the merriment via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Ideas on my team.

    Jaaskelainen • Begovic
    Shorey • Ridgewell • Cuellar • Nelsen • Hughes
    Sessegnon • Puncheon • Mata • Morrison • Michu
    Suarez • Van Persie • Berbatov

    1 FT, £4.0m in the bank.

    Want some Man City attack.

    Which option & who?

    a) Berbatov → Aguero, Tevez or Dzeko
    b) Suarez → Aguero, Tevez or Dzeko
    c) both a) & b) for a hit.
    d) Morrison → Silva / Yaya
    e) Suarez + Morrison → Tevez & Silva for a hit
    f) something else

    Thanks in advance. 🙂

      d) You might as well just go with a differential and avoid the rotation risk associated with City strikers. Suarez is worth keeping and their aren't enough alternatives to Berbatov in his price range. Morrison out should be your priority

        Its funny when people just make stuff up and force themselves to believe it. Chelsea lacks depth? They started with Eden Hazard on the bench today. He came on and score, showing he is more than capable of covering Mata for a rest. Marin is now being used as well and Oscar is still in the picture. I have Mata but the reality is the will most likely be rested this weekend with two close and tougher games after thant are 3 days apart.

      Its quite possible Dzeko could come in for Nasri with Aguero shifted to the wing. Likewise Kolarov could start in Nasri's place. Yaya's position will remain as is.

          He wouldn't be moved forward because he hasn't been moved forward much at all this season. When Nasri or Silva were injured in the past it was common to see the likes of Milner or Kolarov fill in.

        Ah yes, because Rooney and RVP are in such bad form! And because United are struggling for goals!!

        United have 30%+ more goals this season than the next highest team. Between Rafael, RVP and Rooney you have about 90% of United's attacking points, which is huge. Im a big fan of this, especially with free kicks and corners being shared, and Rooney on PKs.

    Call me mad but having had a few days to reflect on santi's recent haul, he has a blank next week and silva has a better fixture this weekend so out he goes.

    Might bring him back for Newcastle but may want Walcott by then...

      One thing that bothers me about Walcott is that Arsenal will buy a new striker in January, limiting his chances of a role up front.

          Well, I assume you'll want at least one of them for the DGW but yeah, that's probably about 6 weeks away.

          Cazorla / Silva / Mata over here so hard for me to say what I'd do in that position.

            Think I'll be wildcarding by then. You're spot on with the top midfielders, I definitely want Bale and then it'll be tough to decide between the three spanish wizards...

      In a funny way I think Santi's blank almost works in his favour - at least we KNOW when he's not going to play, with almost all his potential replacements we're guessing, makes it easier to plan your cover.

    I feel very out of touch here this week. Everyone seems to taking points hits; I;m desperate to hold on to my two free transfers for next week, so think I shouldn't even spend a freebie!

    I want a City player, but don't even want to spend my free transfer on it this week. I wonder whether people are forgetting that, with popular players having a blank and inevitable heavy rotation, it will be challenging to get 11 men out for the boxing day fixture.

    I guess the main thing that allows me to plan ahead so carefully is not having to worry about Fellaini, having never had him.

    in the last three games Reading have played the player in the "hole" has scored big points - Santi, Sess/McClean and Rooney.

    Silva is nailed on as well. But i know that if i do not captain tevez he will score a hat trick.

    which one is a better move?

    A) slowly loading your team with ARS & WHU players and get many of them (e.g O'Brien,Gibbs, Nolan, Santi/Walcott) playing in the DGW, and then get rid of them with Jan WC; or

    B) rope all of them in GW23 using the Jan WC, and take them out later accordingly as you're not confident with their fixtures afterwards?

      Well, Arseanl have sot, then 4 home games in a row, as well as a double (away to chelsea), so I imagine stocking up on Arsenal players during January is a good idea.

        chances are you may have 2-4 players anyway from these teams, so probably only going to add another 2-3 if you want full house. i would think using WC to adjust after is better. But don't get lost focusing all your effort onto those games, you can end up missing good scoring opps from others just trying to get arsenal/whu players into team

            Well, surely its about whether Cazorla this week, plus whoever replaces him next week (from my bench) can outscore Silva? Not quite fair to compare 1 game vs 2, when Ill certainly have 11 players in GW19 anyway...

              How come you haven't done any transfers is such a long time? Are you playing particular rules for a league you're in?

        Need to raise 0.2m for Silva.

        Do i:

        A) Cuellar -> B.Davies
        B) Cuellar -> Demel
        C) Cuellar -> Shorey
        D) Enrique -> Nastasic (Still not convinced he’s 100% guaranteed)
        E) Enrique -> Gibbs (not ideal as already have Caz missing next week)
        F) Enrique -> McAuley

        Would prob prefer to keep Enrique…but still slight injury doubt + worried about Paternity leave over Crimbo.

            Shorey big no why?

            Yeah, Reading have leaked goals recently but they have 2 nice fixtures between Christmas and New Year and will surely tighten up - he's also on set pieces.

          I think it depends a bit on when you want this defender to play.

          I was in a similar boat with affording Mata and downgraded to Clyne as I need a defender this week. I would keep Enrique, so would be inclined to say A-C, depending on when you need them.

        Suarez -> Tevez/Dzeko for a -4pt hit is madness, right?

          well considering that suarez is one of the main captain options this gw alongside rooney, rvp and a city player: yes I think so

            But he's on poor form and City could run riot against Reading..

          Yes, it's ridculous knee-jerking.

          Suarez at home to Fulham would be crazy to transfers out for free, let alone paying hits to do it.

            I transfered out Suarez when he had Villa at home (last week), for a hit, for Rooney, and that worked out well.

            Suarez is in bad form. Not sure why he is a legitimate captain option this week! Especially if Sterling is rested. Suarez cant do it all alone in the Liverpool team.

        Was all set to do fellaini >> silva (for a hit) but now with nasri injured...will yaya move to a cam?
        If so, i will rather to fellaini >> yaya this week and do rafael + sess >> hughes + bale (for a hit) next week

        Thoughts?

        Anyone think Tevez will be benched? The reason is
        I Just BOUGHT him in for A HIT.

        I bought Giroud last week and he was benched.(hint) 😀

          Nah, not for me. He may not have form but those 2 fixtures for Berbatov are irresistible between Christmas and New Year. I'm tempted to get him.
