The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Three – Wrapped Up

Possibly the most un-Christmas-like Christmas Podcast we’ve ever recorded, thanks mainly to Granville being banned from editing in the entire MP3 of Dean Martin’s “Let it Snow” but also because neither of us had time to sort our pressies. To be fair, I’m surprised that Granville felt an ounce Christmas spirit after Santi’s showing at Reading opened up a 40-point “chasm” in our min-league. Do I have it all wrapped up already?

To his credit, my co-host takes it all on his bearded chin, joining me to discuss the Felliani fallout, its impact on the transfer trends in “all aboard”, a preview of the weekend fixtures and provided his assistance in the management of the ScoutCast team: an outfit which plundered no less than 80 points thanks to Santi’s haul and Reading’s bulging net.

Unitie the bow and rip this one open via this link, or stream the merriment via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If you had to I'd go Zabs because cheaper, but in reality both could sting you due to rotation...

        Wait what Zab injured?

Then Nasty could be a better option then? Less prone to rotation as well I suppose?

oh my bad. you meant enrique and rafa.

pretty sure rodgers said that enrique will be fit by this week and rafa only has tight harmstring on training before last match.

but yeah.. i want to get zaba asap as his price will increase soon

    A: fellaini + berbs >> taarabt + tevez
    B: fellaini + sess >> taarabt + silva

Berbs is giving me headaches and if city massacre reading, tevez will explode and silva might get an odd assist.

      B) cos even though it's perfectly acceptable to sell Berba after such a horrible run of form, I'd still rather sell Sess with his fixtures and Sunderlands lack of chances being created.

Plus Silva will give you more game time over Tevez

    Think i nailed it.

    Foster/Federici
    Enrique/Sagna/Cuellar/Hughes/Cameron
    Cazorla/Silva/Michu/Sterling/McAnuff
    RVP/Suarez/Fletcher

    This week....did Fella>Silva
    Next week.....Cazorla>Valencia
    Week after....Sterling & Suarez>>Walcott & Ba or Berba

    Leaves me with

    Foster/Federici
    Enrique/Sagna/Cuellar/Hughes/Cameron
    WALCOTT/Silva/Michu/VALENCIA/McAnuff
    RVP/BAorBERBA/Fletcher

    What do you think?

      imo, i think you should:-

      1. try to get johnson instead of keeping enrique if you're so keen on Liv defence
      2. keep santi if you already got him, unless walcott goes rampant this GW.
      3. get young instead of valencia, if yo think having RvP for MU is not enough.

Am I just being too greedy wanting to get in Aguero(C) for Berbatov this week for -4?
I mean, Berba should come good over xmas with very good fixtures and ruiz comming back, but having a top 5 striker in the world as captain playing at home vs the worst team (both in general and by far in defense) in the premiership is just so so tempting. Waddaya say peeps?

I reckon he'll play some part in the game. How long is difficult to know. However any involvement has a very good chance of points, so It's certainly not a bad idea.

Could be a monster haul of 30+pts, could be 10pts.....

I think you might be ... Berbs may be playing 'flat' right now, but he's likely to play all games in the next few weeks. You be trading out a player, for a hit, who'll play for a rotation risk - when you have other issues in the team, like Gervinho - on the hope that Aguero will smash it. Which, even if he does, will cause you to be in a more difficult period later on as you used a transfer on him.

I'd bite the bullet, (c) RVP, and hope that Reading finds some self-respect and resolve. And fix that Gervinho thing, for chrissakes. 🙂

If Kagawa comes back onto the scene then it's likely to mean a tactical change. That would mean moving away from playing wingers when he plays as that's probably the only way to accommodate him.

The interesting thing is that it's hard to imagine him coming back right now. I feel a little sorry for him as ever since RVP signed he's felt like a regrettable signing...because he just gets in the way and is hard to fit into Man Utd's style. His injury has been somewhat a blessing. Wingers + Rooney and RVP is working insanely well.

As much I don't like to say it, Torres form (goal scoring) is hard to ignore. Okay he's missing loads and is still pants, but what's that - six goals in five or better?

Compare to Aguero (rotation risk) I think Torres might be edging this one.

Never expected to be saying this. Ever.

Torres looking good. If Suarez fails this GW it is going to be Torres + Mata.

Yeah good point - Mata 100%.

But Torres is so nailed on and scoring ( not sure about form tbh, he's still fairly average), I'd go with him over Aguero right now.

Jafa are you thinking to take Torres out for Suarez this GW.

I am thinking because am still not far convinced about Torres or next week.

Fatique would be an issue travelling from Japan & Ellan road. Next week then.

Liverpool : Stroke, qpr ( both away)
Chelsea: Norwich, Everton ( both away)

Its going to come down to Form vs fixtures

Don't have Torres but probably wouldn't transfer him out if I had him.

I have RVP - Suarez - Berbs, fairly average right now, not excited by them, with Tevez, Torres & Benteke kicking about.......also Aguero, but cost an issue and maybe form/rotation.

It all comes to Suarez scoring against Fulham.

I am temped to captain him over Rooney. But its form vs fixtures.

Suarez will have lot ot shots but couldnt find the net for last 4 games which sucks.

If Suarez draws a blank my forward line would be : Roon, Fletcher/ Benteke, Torres

Whatever you think about Torres...he's still playing lone striker with insanely talented creative midfielders behind him. He's going to get chances and there are signs that they're creating more for him (influenced by Benitez)

If you add in penalties (not certain but possible he is on them now) then you have a hell of a differential.

Thanks for the reply, thinking I will do this, but on the other hand I feel like if I'm gonna get Puncheon, a home game vs. Sunderland is the best time to do it (it's not for a hit btw).

For this week I'd much rather have Silva over Bale (especially as we're not sure if Bale is back to full fitness and if he will start on the bench). But long term Bale is a fantasy best who is always a goal threat and is an extremely direct player.

Puncheon is also a great shout, but I'm not so sure I'd take a hit to bring him in

Thanks mate, yeah I know I prefer Bale long term but just wondering whether it's worth going with Silva for the short term until Bale's fit and firing again so yeah good points. It's not for a hit, would you pull the trigger for Sunderland at home?

I too have questions on Silva. Yaya still has 4 games till AFC and have got him. He seems to be going more ahead in scoring areas. Yaya is a bonus king so am inclined towards him

Silva is class but in front of goal he looks a bit lazy. Still cant figure out the save of DDG from point blank area against United.

Bale is definately coming in next week. Stroke is not where AVB will risk him

I prefer Silva to Yaya; despite popping up with the odd goal, Yaya has very few shots on goal (his goal at the weekend came from his only shot in the game and he made no key passes) so I wouldn't expect too many more. Silva on the other hand made an amazing 8 key passes but registered no shots, so despite being pretty much a one-category player (i.e. he'll assist lots but won't score much) he does create chances at the highest rate in the league.

Then there's Bale who not only makes his fair share of key passes but also bangs in plenty of shots per game, making him a more dangerous player overall.

Elland Road. Yeah they played two matches in Japan, a 3-1 win vs. Monterrey in the semi and a 1-0 defeat to Corinthians in the final. Apparently the Torres of old was back in the final and Chelsea didn't look bothered until after the final whistle blew.

Nobody knows except their respective managers. My guess would be that all of them will play though.

Rafael was rested, Enrique was close to making the game but was given one more week to recouperate, AVB says Bale is back this week & Fletcher played in the last game and is 1st choice striker so will be back

He's got 4 chances to get 1 good point haul(which is one more chance than most) to average out as an ok punt for 4 weeks. Nobody knows anything so don't take their word for it. Aguero is after all 11m for a reason. He will play a lot more than Dzeko and indeed Tevez when fit. That's all we can go by really.

FPL did not set Aguero's price in the knowledge that he would play more than Dzeko and Tevez this season.

In fact it happens all over FPL. Look at Evra and Vidic's price for example. They're not offering anything more than Rafael really but when fit they are pretty much nailed on to start. Hence the bloated price tag. To obtain them you must fork out a shed load whereas they kept Rafael cheaper because he is/was not nailed on when everyone is fit.

Again, I think it's more because Rafael didn't score well last season. Nor did Vidic of course but his price tag is based on very good seasons in the past, and how well he's likely to score if fit. Evra is priced fairly high because he scores well each season because he consistently starts. So yes you could argue that starts are a factor but to me it's more about the points: those who scored well last season started most games in almost every case.

No, how can they predict who's going to play most? Anything can happen over the course of a season, e.g. the Tevez debacle last season. He started at 12m last season IIRC. It's based almost entirely on his success last season and in previous seasons in other leagues rather than his predicted minutes this season. He's expensive because he scored best out of all the City forwards last year. Admittedly that was partially down to him getting more minutes than the others (but also just being bloody good) but they can't possibly know that that's going to be the case the following season.

This is of course conjecture as I don't know this for sure, but it's a fair assumption wouldn't you say?

I'm afraid you are a little off the mark here. His expensive price tag is around 50% about his 'nailed on' status.

Why else would Dzeko...who scored many goals last season...be 7.5m?

Because his game time is scarce.

It's not about the goals only...

How do you know I'm off the mark? At least I made it clear I wasn't certain ;). Where do you get the 50% from?

I think Dzeko is more of an anomaly than anything since Balo (who had fewer minutes and points last season) started at 9m so nope, he doesn't prove the theory. Dzeko also scored 75 fewer points than Aguero last season so you'd expect that to be reflected in their prices. You maybe wouldn't expect Dzeko to go as low as 7.5m, but still.

I'm not saying last season's minutes aren't a factor; I'm disputing that they tried to predict this season's minutes and used that to help determine the price (at least not 50% of it!). Just because he's 11m doesn't mean Mancini's told FPL he's going to play him most of the time this season which is what, in a way, your original post was suggesting. Maybe they are doing that, I don't know, but it seems mad to me when it's so difficult to predict.

Of course they did. The first choice players are always more expensive than the reserves.

They both play a part, but likely minutes are certainly a factor.

Someone should by Scott Sinclair as a one-week punt. Reading are rubbish at defending crosses, and he's their true winger
