Watchlist

The Watchlist – Dimitar Berbatov

Without a goal or an assist in his last seven outings, Fantasy managers could be forgiven for not placing Dimitar Berbatov at the top of their Christmas lists. Joint winner of the Premier League golden boot two seasons ago off the back of just 24 starts, the Bulgarian’s capacity to deliver explosive returns are without question; and whilst last weekend’s flaccid foray to Anfield furnished another chapter to the Cottagers’ sorry season on the road, Berbatov’s Fantasy following may nevertheless discern some appetising crumbs of comfort from their performances at home…

Martin Jol’s men are averaging just under two goals a game in front of their own fans: a ratio only bettered by Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal, and with three of their next four games at Craven Cottage the schedule augurs well for a striker involved in almost half of Fulham’s haul this season. When we take into consideration the imminent invitees the auspices improve further: Southampton arrive on Boxing Day having shipped 20 goals in just seven away ties, and whilst the subsequent visit from Swansea promises to be a more cagey affair – the Swans have still conceded in all but one of their away games since the opening day.

Whilst the New Year’s Day trip to the resolute West Brom will likely furnish a stern test for Martin Jol’s men, its status as the first televised game of 2013 will, at the very, least afford Berbatov’s owners the opportunity to cheer on their charge from the sofa. Bryan Ruiz’s predicted availability, which could even arrive early on Boxing Day against the Saints, should serve as a seasonable succour to the Bulgarian – and with three goals and three assists to show for their five games together so far, Ruiz’s return could well serve as a timely Christmas present for the Bulgarian’s owners.

With rest and rotation biting over the hectic Christmas schedule, security of starts is another factor in favour of a player seemingly blessed with the ability to get his resting done on the pitch. Still backed by over 250,000 Fantasy managers despite his long drought, Berbatov is now available at a January-sales price of just 7.1 in the Fantasy Premier League and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game. In addition, the statistical omens are stacked in Berbatov’s favour – in 11 Premier League matches played between December 26 to December 31, he’s notched no less than 14 goals. Take what you want from that but with Santi Cazorla’s recent 23 point performance at Reading after a string of blanks fresh in the memory, Jol’s languid lieutenant may yet serve up his own salutary reminder that patience is a virtue.

stilicho I never make predictions and I never will

Morning 🙂 I know I dont have a Grav, I havent linked my team and am new here, but I could really do with some advice.

If you had to bench one of these two, would it be Huth or Suarez. Will Liverpool score do you think? By putting Huth in I would have 3 Stoke players in my defence, which is pretty balls out....but I think it *might* be a 0-0

    Team is

    Begovic
    Nastasic, Enqrique, Shawcross
Mata (C), Michu, Ya Ya Toure, Routledge
    Van Persie, Suarez, Tevez

Bench - Sterling, Huth, Shorey, Bunn

(oh and will be doing Toure back to Fellaini and upgrading Routledge on 2 Jan)

Difficult one. Suarez is a great player but his returns are patchy. Torres has been playing badly recently BUT crucially has still been scoring goals (and scored a stonker against Villa last weekend). I wouldn't personally.

I dont have any free transfers for this game week, so thats why I wondered about the Suarez/Huth conundrum 🙂

But thanks for your replies. So I need to convince myself that either Stoke will keep a cleany vs Liverpool, or whether Suarez will score against them. Personally form says a clean sheet is on the cards for Stoke, but history says that Suarez playing against a massive back four is ripe for a theatrical masterclass and will probably win a hat-trick of penalties....

        I'm none the wiser am I 🙂

Personally I think that with Rafa in charge we are going to be looking at a new Torres who will be making some people look foolish. Cant see him being as good as he early days but will do well. I will be looking at him after GW 23 when they have a better run of fixs.

So have a few sticking points that i need advise on

    Begovic
    enrique davies cueller demel rafael
    michu silva tarabt cazorla sterling
    rvp berbs suarez

    Have 1FT and 0.9m.

    - If rafael doesnt play today, i will be fielding enrique davies and cueller... I can take out rafael for hughes...but i was planning to do rafael to mertesacker next week in prep for the dgw. I could always bring in hughes and mertesacker but dont want to use 2 FT's on defenders in the next 5gw's (till the dgw). so i am just thinking of keeping rafael and take him out for an ars defender next gw. Thoughts?

    - with caz not playing, i will be fieling sterling (and suarez) against stoke. I can take out sterling for any mid upto 6.4m but dont know who. If i do my rafael >> mertesacker transfer next week, i can do sterling >> nolan the following week. Alternative do rafael >> hughes this week and sterlin >> nolan next gw.

    - since i am worried about starting sterling against stoke, i can do cazorla >> bale...but the only way i will be able to bring back cazorla is then for silva.

Really like the look of bale and keen to just do silva >> bale as opposed to wasting value and FT to get rid of caz and bring him back again. The only problem will then be starting both sterling and suarez against stoke.

    Thoughts?

I am pretty sure this "essay" is confusing:D

Don't see any problem fielding Enrique, Davies and Cuellar. Rafael > Mertesacker if you have a FT?

Sterling > Pilkington/Snodgrass? Not a big fan of Nolan this season.

      Keep Cazorla.

Keep Rafa this week. Its a 50-50 and if he does play you'll get good points. If he is a no show it wont be the end of the world with your replacements.
Starting Sterling isn't great but it will still get you 2points at least. Stay with your plan and bring in Mert next week and Nolan the week after.
Silva to Bale doesn't solve your starting 11 problem and is sideways this week at best.

Save and use the 2 free TF's next GW.

    Ming
    Cameron, Shorey, Enrique
    Mata, Piennar, Snod, Sess
    Fletcher, Rooney, Suarez
No FT + 4.4 left in bank.

    Few Captain options :
    a) Piennar : Wigan at home should be easy fixture.
    b) Rooney :Need to show that hes really on track to match RVP.Could be rested.
    c) Mata : Consistent overall. But Norwitch would be tricky fixture. Nor defence is usually great at home and are performing well.
    d) Enrique : Clean sheet + Attacking returns. Stroke dont usually score much.

I'm gonna leave both and captain Baines.......is there anyone out there who thinks this is a good move, surely he's overdue returns?

    3 Transfer in my Mind.
    What would you do?
    Mignolet > Begovic
    Fletcher>Berbaseks
Downgrade Clichy (if fit, then no worry)

Help me Prioritize. 1ft and 1.1m in the bank

tremmel is another option.Ohk then i might hold on to Migno for last 2 weeks, expecting save points. The price rise of begovic is killing me honestly

I see lots of 'wait for the pressers' posts and loads of unanwered 'are there any pressers today?' posts...

Well are there any? Not convinced myself

The pressers were on Monday, although some clubs didn't appear to carry out full press conferences. Most clubs trained yesterday but the media were on holiday 😉

Don't think there are any. Would clubs/managers really have the distraction of pressers when most of them play at 3pm.

Silva is less likely to be rested. Also, with Lampard back, Mata's involvement in set pieces is reduced
