The Numbers Game – Festive Form – Defenders

Continuing our round-up of the Christmas period, it’s time to treat our members to a series of articles which examines each of the positions and analyses the form of the key protagonists over the past four Gameweeks. We start in defence, by casting an eye over the top tens for our ICT Index, plus a more in-depth look at the main performers in terms of goal threat and creativity….

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Mornings guys. Is saving WC to after GW23/24 still a viable tactic with two DGWs coming up?

When reading these forums I sometimes feel like I'm the only one who wants to save the WC. I'm ahead in my most important ML and at about the same points in the other, I feel like the risky move is WC-ing now and setting the team up for double DGWs instead of waiting it out. What do you guys think? My current team

    Jassi Bego
    Baines Enrique Cuellar Demel Davies
    Cazorla Walcott Michu Nolan Sterling
    RVP Suarez Berbatov

1FT 1.2M in the bank. Thinking just Enrique -> Azp/Luiz and Cazorla -> Mata, then maybe trade Cazorla back next GW.

The transfers you suggest for a -4 hit seems sensible and worth it (especially if your do Mata (c) too), i think you have thought it through as well which is key.
      Go for it.

I did it coz i had to get Mata , Bale and Walcott in before they got too pricy, i cant believe i got this far without them to be fair, but as a result my TV was under par 🙂
Im happy now and the extra DGW is a bonus because i had WC before it was announce 😀

I can see it with low TV, but I built TV with taking a few hits here and there during the season for this exact purpose; being able to keep cool during this period and not worry about price rises during the last part of the season. Of course, that's my IDEA. We'll see how it works out.

Hehe, that must be nice! There is definitely some points to score over the DDGWs.

I preder to use my WC during after Arsenal's DGW for many reasons
-Newcastle's form at the back and up front.
      -The Sturridge-Suarez link up.
      -Any transfer news whatsoever.
There are many other reasons, and I'm sure you could state a few ;).

Yeah, I'm eyeing the Sturridge-Suarez link up big time. There's also the City strikers to consider, Tevez could be gold now. Wilson returning. Plenty of things making me wait.

It depends on many factors, obviously I think that's the way to go but I have relatively decent TV, a team that I'm happy with and good cover for at least the Arsenal DGW. So I feel like I can afford to wait.

This. It's tempting to go now before price rises and whatnot, but no way I'm doing any transfers before I see that there's no injuries and that players I want in from Chelsea don't play 90 minutes in FA Cup AND Capital Cup.

I quite like it. It's on the lines of what I'm going for.

      - I'd advise you to get a bit of Stoke defence in there. Seems essential.
      - Turner is a little more nailed on than R. Martin who will rotate with Whittaker.

Looks well set up I say.

This is the exact reason I don't want to transfer Sterling -> Puncheon. Huuuuuge bench dilemma. If you are on WC though, Puncheon is the best option for a cheap mid, so you kind of "have to" get him. I'd probably bench The only ones you CAN bench from that front 8 is Michu or Walcott, toss a coin.

Yeah, but if you are on WC it seems silly picking them over Puncheon which has DGW AND is such good value. Even with the bench problem. Like I said if I was on WC, I'd get Puncheon and just man up and pick between Punch/Walcott/Michu for bench.

    Snodgrass, Fellani, Walcott, Bale, Sterling

    RVP, Berbatov, Suarez

    1 ft 0.1 in bank

For dgw 22 plan is - johnson to azqi or mannone to turnball (like my forward 8 and dont really wanna rape it too much, but could ditch snod/sterling for sot mid)

    dgw 23 - get in nolan/noble/demel

    then wc

for the DGW that looks good, but if you went with the option of say a defender instead of one of those you then wouldn't face the problem of having to get one or two of them out. Long term 2 Arsenal mids is overkill. I've gone Gibbs, more nailed on according to people on here.

This extra double gamesweek is causing a right stir!

I don't often come on here asking for advice without giving an insight into what I am thinking of doing, but how the hell do I get Mata into this team (I do not want to ship out Walcott or Bale and get them back next week!).

    Begovic
    Clyne/Vert/Gibbs/Demel/Nelsen
    Walcott/Bale/Pienaar/Michu/Puncheon
    Berbs/Suarez/RVP

    1FT; £1.5m in the bank.

Is it just sufficient to do Vert > Luiz or Foster > Turnbull & captain Bale?

Then there is the question of whom to bench?

    Thanks.

          Don't need to.....just be sensible

          Chelsea x 3 (inc Mata)
          Southampton x 1 or 2
          Arsenal x 2 or 3 (inc Walcott)
          West ham x 1 or 2

Built around RVP, Bale, Michu, Begovic, Suarez, Berbs

Maybe go for a bit of Ba?

i too am considering no chelsea attack and going for their defense as i too dont wanna lose bale or walcott. without ruining your team it wont happen withour taking out one if those 2. but mata may get limited minutes anyway so i plan to hide behind the couch when hes playing...

I'm considering Walcott to mata for the dgw and then transfer Walcott or santi back in for the gw23. The way I see it, Walcott is isn't likely to score that heavily against city and if mata does get a mega dgw score then the forum is going to be one hell of a lonely place for anyone that didn't have him! 😉

I'd go for it. I considered Oscar, just didnt have space for him with the Arsenal DGW coming. Plus I fancy doubling on Chelsea defence a little more.

don't avoid him just for the sake of a selection dilemma, he's a good long term pick, whoever you choose is a good pick for this week, think of it as a nice dilemma, reply to association Bergkamp, think his post is lost on last page

Someone mentioned earlier that R Martin is not nailed on for Norwich, that he is rotated. Is this true? As far as I can tell he is nailed on, he's played the last three games and was even captain in the absence of Holt against Manchester City. He also played a string of games earlier in the season. Should I get Turner as he's more nailed on? Cheers

OK. Think I've finally settled on my WC team. Was firmly in the 352 camp prior to DDGW but now preparing to gamble on Ba maintaining his form and starts at chelsea.

    Turnbul (Begovic)
    Azpi,Clyne/shaw, O'brien (gibbs & demel)
    Fellaini, Walcott, Bale, Michu (marvaux)
    MVP, Suarez, Ba(c)
then doing the Ba podolski shuffle over next two weeks.

Gives me 3 chelsea 1 sou then 3 ars two w.ham with no hits and ok bench

    What does everyone think?

Hello, first time poster here and would appriciate some help!

Wasn't going to use WC until after GW23, but with the extra DGW I think i'll have to do it now. This is what i'm looking at doing -

    Jaaskelainen, Federici
    Gibbs, Luiz, Fonte, Reid, Nelson
Walcott, Puncheon, Santi Cazorla, Bale, Hazard
    Pogrebnyak, Lambert, Ba

Would do Puncheon > Nolan or Noble for GW23. Also would be playing 3-5-2
