The Big Numbers – Gameweek 22

West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku heads up our ICT Index rankings after a weekend of football, with Wigan’s Franco Di Santo an unlikely name to keep Robin Van Persie company in our top three. Our members can investigate these standings in full, digesting all the data from the weekend’s action. Big Numbers makes a return to pick out our take on the key statistics on show, together with an array of trends that have emerged over the past four Gameweeks…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have exactly the same front 8 and am considering the same. If WCing next week I'd probably do that (unless you want Ba long term), otherwise I'd be tempted to save the transfer too.

when are you going to wc? well i might want ba long term but i'm not sure... need to see another round of games (gw 23) to determine who i want my forwards to be that go along with rvp

All the cool kids have Marveaux..... 😉

I WCed last week, and am gonna save the 2nd WC till later in the season (hopefully for some juicy DGWs).

I kinda either want Ba to score massive or get a retrospective 3 match ban (nicer than wishing injury) to help force my hand on Ba -> Pod....

Nah, got to start Lambert - on pens, in form and at home. Oh and nailed on. Marveaux could always lose his place with Cabaye back, and he doesn't come close to Lambert for threat. Marveaux is a decent first sub this week though.

My dilemma (as well as the Ba -> Pod conundrum) is which one to bench here?

DEMEL (QPR, ars), Baines (sot), Azpil (CHE), Davies (STO)

i guess you're right... it's just that everton are solid defensively and marveaux has reading....

azp is playing chelsea now? ;). i'd bench him out of that lot. the arsenal game could be a goal fest. but if you wanna play him then bench davies.

my other dilemma is who to bench out of demel o'brien nasty and sagna. what do you recon?

Everton solid defensively?? They only have 3 clean sheets all season....

Haha, Azpil (ARS) I meant! 🙂 I think I'll probably bench him as can see goals in this one, and he isn't nailed on to start anyway...

Wait for news on O'Brien - if not confirmed fit then bench him imo since you already have cover in Demel. Otherwise, it's a close one - possibly bench Nasty....

only allowed more than 1 goal on seven occasions and never allowed more than 2 goals, i'd say that's pretty solid defensively.

yeah i figured haha :D. yeah makes sense

that's the problem is do i double up on whu defense or play nasty?

This. If he played 90 mins I'd definitely be bringing him in.

That said, he scores well in those 70ish minutes so he could still be worth it, especially since we have decent fixtures to follow.

    A) Starts against Soton and scores.

Not capping Mata tirned out to be a disaster. I'm just gonna go with the top of the cap poll from now on. Anytime I've gone against it I have suffered badly. Hows my team for this week?(Bale -> Santo pending)

    Jassi

    Gibbs, Davies. Demel

    Walcott(c), Fellaini, Mata, Michu, Santi(vc)

    RVP, Ba

    Bego, Lambert, Azpilicueta, Harte

I don't have anything tied up in Bale and would be able to get him back the following week. I know Arsenal suck right now but its still a DGW and I just feel I won't have too many more chances to make it up the ladder. I'm in a big money league and really wanna win :).

Other options are Ba-> Pod maybe if Ba flopps the next game. Does that sound better?

Thanks. I think with Diaby in there Santi shouldn't have to drop deep to cover. He has been dropping deeper anyways and isn't taking anywhere near as many shots on goal as he was at the start of the season. I'm not sure if its fatigue or just sucking right now.

This Template Midfield is quite funny at the moment. Bale has not produced attacking returns since his hattrick, Michu is also on 3 blanks, Walcott has not looked good at all the last few games, Fellaini has one paltry assist since a 3 game ban...

Only Mata has produced and yet look at some of the form of other cheap options.. Gerrard has outstanding attacking returns recently and rarely ever gets a mention 😀

I think people are still waiting for the other shoe to drop with Gerrard. He doesn't have the stats to back up his points production so I guess we're all waiting for him to regress. Players can run hot for a very long time though so I'll look at hime from GW26 if I can't get Suarez back

Other way around. Gerrard has always had the underlying stats, just did not translate to FPL points earlier on.

Now his racking the points, perhaps something to do with Lucas, not sure.

Fellaini has scored 5 and 6 since being suspended
Bale has 28 points in his last 3 games
Walcott has 35 points in his last 3 games

What he was doing was taking all this talk of the power 5 with a pinch of salt and putting things in perspective. I much prefer this to the usual sheep-like comments made on here about what teams you should have. At least there's some engagement here with the most recent events.

I'm not arguing against the idea to not have the "Power 5" but things like 'Bale has no attacking stats since his hat-trick' (2 games, one where he got maximum bonus) and 'Fellaini has 1 paltry assist since his suspension' (2 games, where he managed 11 points) is a bit of a rubbish argument if you ask me.

It's not really an argument just a few observations. Fellaini and Bale got lucky this week remember. Did nothing to deserve those baps.

I think it's just better to have an open mind and remember that just because people are calling these 5 the best doesn't always mean they will get the most points going forward. Plenty of benefit in going for differentials or simply against the grain.

I have the "Power Five" but to be honest the term is unbearable. I agree with what you are saying but it is like this with any bandwagon on here most of the time.
I'm looking at a 3-5-2/3-4-3 hybrid sort of team, because I don't like the idea of having 2 forwards personally.

              yeah i don't buy the power5 thing - I like fixtures.

Even the power5 have there off weeks and on weeks and these (to some extent) generally coincide with good or bad fixtures.

Of course, there are exceptions and a player like Bale CAN go wild against united but he is more likely to do so against qpr, regardless of the apparent discrepancies this season in that particular example.

Similarly a player like Fletcher with good games can easily outscore a player like suarez with bad games, saving yourself a few million during that period.

Everyone who is bomoaning the bemoaning on this website - shut the fook up!!

There will never be a system that suits everyone, and in turn moaning about the BAPS is good fun in a FUN game, get over yourselves, accept it for what it is - this ain't real you know!

The people moaning now are the people that moaned about the old system. They'll never be happy, even after ruining a better system with their incessant whining. To make myself feel better I imagine their posts in the voice of a whining 5 year old.

Players like Styne making comments such such as how the black caps shouldn't player certain players because their no good or Watling is doing well etc isn't helpful. Its just so condescending and demeaning, its as if the Saffa's are sorry for us. I hate the fact that we have to put up with their sympathy.

But to be fair the Blackcaps bring it on themselves by performing so badly and unprofessionally that sympathy will naturally follow.

He might be, but lets not forget he is 3.1m more.

Although it is a very small sample space, Sturridge managed more shots and the same amount of chances created in half the time vs United. I wouldn't be ditching Suarez for him right now, but if I choosing between them it would probably be Sturridge.

This is Sturridge's Big Chance and if he doesn't take it he could be facing mid-career drift and a slow decline, along the lines of SWP and Joe Cole, becoming yet another talented player who never really fulfilled his potential.
I think he'll do well, but whether he'll get the minutes to be worth it in FPL is another question. Definitely a wait and see.
