The Numbers Game – Budget Midfielders

Starting the season priced at just 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Raheem Sterling quickly cemented his place in many a five man midfield thanks to a consistency of game time under new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers. Handed a first-team chance in Gameweek 2, the winger rose steadily in price to 5.7 as the bandwagon showed little sign of slowing down but a run of 16 consecutive starts was brought to an end in Gameweek 18, with Rodgers citing signs of fatigue in the youngster’s play:

  In my opinion he will compete for the left forward spot with goufran. They should both play until barfa comes back in feb. Then I guess whoever is performing better would keep the spot. I will probably take a punt on him in my WC if we don't sign a proper ba replacement

      He's been great. I'm more than happy with him. I would have had him in the starting 11 from the start of the season. Seemed earlier that pardeu didn't fancy him. But hopefully marv has done enough to win him over

  This is tough...If pushed i'll say Bale as he is inconsistent. Mata and Walcott are giving returns every gameweek,whereas with bale its once every 4 weeks.
  Mata and Walcott can both be explosive just like bale in any given week.

Quick question.

Playing my WC and I'm currently short of the team I want by 0.1m. The player I want is Bale, now if I transfer in Gerrard instead who, according to fiso, is shortly about to rise in price would that allow me to get Bale still part of my WC? Or will that count as a transfer outside of a WC and therefore be a hit?

  Yes you can transfer Gerrard in and then get Bale without a hit since you're in WC.
  
  But it's not how things work. You need Gerrard to increase by 0.2 before you can make a 0.1 profit out of him. So if he rises soon, and you sell him, the money you get is still the same price you're getting him in. And I doubt he will rise by 0.2 this week.

Just doing some youtube scouting on sissokho. I know that you shouldn't make a judgement on a player from that, but what I can tell is that he is much more attacking than I thought, Very much a box to box type mid. Fast, strong, skillful. If we can now just get tiote to sit in front of the back four (one of the reasons he has been rubbish this year is that he has been trying to do too much attacking), cabeye pulling the strings behind the forwards, and this guy being the link between the two, and we will have one of the most formidable midfield in the league!

    Barfa should have a free lisence his position in this line-up should really mean nothing. He should have a Cazorla role except obviously his individual skill would allow him to get through defenders and get the shot off.

    I've still got faith in tiote. Hopefully he remembers how to play in africa. With the new guys, we just need him to sit in front of the back four and win the ball. I think he was trying to take to much into his own hands before. So i would have him in centre mid, and cabeye behind the forwards, and either marv or goufrann on the left

  For me the foundation of Newcastle's success last season was the defence, you need to start defending better and keeping clean sheets to improve confidence in the team. I believe the attacking play will sort itself out sooner rather than later.

Those thinking about Ba.
If Torres plays in the cup this w/e, Ba will surely start v RDG.
Then in Feb, CHE have 2 Europa games for which Ba is cup-tied and Torres will play.
We could be on the verge of a consistent run in the league for Mr Ba.

  Good spot. Keeping him vs. Gettimg rid for aguero leaves a nice 2.5m extra budget for elsewhere... Kind of have my heart set on an RVP/Aguero/Studge front 3 however

Anyone else share my belief that Suarez has actually been enhanced by Studge.

He at least now has an outlet rather than having to hold off double or even triple teaming sometimes. It will allow him more space especially in the box and also give him more assist potential.

Hes a much better prospect that Aguero IMO

    I have Ba instead of Aguero, dont like to lose value and Ba could have more potential than aguero if he gets consistent starts.
    
    Suarez will far outscore studge IMO. Team value is not a problem for me.

  Assuming Sturidge scores goals,which is a reasonable assumption, Liverpool will have to become a significantly better team for there to be enough points to go around. The Norwich result is promising, but it remains to be seen whether they can keep it up.
