Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adel Taarabt

It’s a fair assumption that if QPR are to avoid the dreaded drop under Harry Redknapp, much will depend on the contribution of Adel Taarabt. While former Spurs boss has instilled a new-found resilience which has harvested four clean sheets in the last six, it’s also telling that of the nine goals the R’s have scored since the departure of Mark Hughes, Taarabt has had a hand in six of them.

Indeed, based on the data in the members area, which analyses Opta goals and assists, there’s a greater than 50% chance that Taarabt will be involved in his side’s goals when on the pitch. Quite simply, no other midfielder can match that contribution to their respective side, underlining his importance to the QPR cause.

Since Redknapp’s first official match in charge in the Gameweek 14 draw at Sunderland, the maverick Moroccan has chipped in with two goals and four assists and, with 11 bonus points also thrown in, has averaged 4.4 points per game under the new regime. With Redknapp revealing only this morning that he “won’t take any risks” with record signing Loic Remy’s groin problem and with Bobby Zamora not yet fit enough for a starting berth, Taarabt’s role in “the hole” offers us an intriguing mid-price prospect over the next few matches.

With a share of set-pieces and corners in his locker and with spot-kick duties still intact despite his recent miss against Norwich, Taarabt’s upcoming schedule looks particularly enticing. The Loftus Road outfit now square up to six of the current bottom nine in the next nine Gameweeks, offering Redknapp plenty reason to be optimistic as he attempts to claw back a seven point deficit on fourth-bottom Aston Villa.

The R’s play host to Sunderland, Wigan and Stoke and travel to Southampton, Villa, Fulham and Reading – plenty of proverbial six-pointers are on the cards, then, and with draws no longer good enough, Redknapp needs to go on the offensive. As the pressure begins to mount in the drop zone, these last few months tend to hand Fantasy managers some unexpected gems at the foot of the table – priced at just 5.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.2 in Sky Sports game, there’d be no better time for Taarabt to finally dazzle.

So everyone here suggest me to get rid of Remy now? 2.1m at bank.. RVP, Lambert are other 2 strikers with Power-5 set up.. Who's the good replacement for Remy?

Well if you already have the Mag 5 then you might as well just get Pog.

This week I'm short of starting 11 so want to get better striker.. With the blank week on horizon do you reckon Giroud?

          He's a good pick.

The problem is that you're going to have tough bench decisions every week if you have the Mag 5 and three good strikers up front.

Right but bench strength will definitely help us in long term.. With all specialist Front 8 we can even last without change until the end.. I already have Walcott.. You still say Giroud is good pick?

What annoys me about many of these XIs is that either they're based completely on FPL returns, or the front 6 looks a little like this -

      Hazard - Silva - Mata - Bale
      Van Persie - Suarez

It's very rare you find one with the right balance as well as good players. Also, people seem to disregard past seasons very quickly on here 😐

As its slow we'll have a little game. If you go to your starting XI GW1 and add up each players total points, and of course double your captain's total points. What do you get?

This was my GW1 team 😳

    DDG
    Vlaar...Zabaleta...Kompany
    Santi...Dembele...Hoilett...Ramires
    Torres(c)...Tevez...Petric

My score is an unimpressive 961. Winner gets a gold star.

If you're talking about Aguero...I think people spend too much time mindful of form on here...a player has to deliver several times over a few weeks before they consider them...well that's maybe true at the start of the season but now is the time to be making some calculated risks...and to say Aguero has somehow lost his talent because City are off form would be untrue. That's why I'm still backing City and Aguero to perform well in the run-in. They have hiccups...but so does every top team...I believe that was only their third loss of the season.

Under different circumstances City would be allowed lose that third game...but because they are 12 points behind now it's deemed a crisis and disastrous. But they're still capable of winning games convincingly and are strong. You've got to back them to get back to winning ways.

I actually think the opposite. We spend far too much time analysing fixtures and dismissing players because they have a difficult run of games. The onus this year in particular is for scoring goals and players like Lambert, Michu, Fellaini have been continuing to score against the top teams all season.

Not sure, but I know in primary school we weren't allowed real balls on the playground, only on the school field, so we had to use little plastic balls with holes in them (I thought they were called air-flow, maybe not!)

well I only have 2 e-mail accounts, one is used for my main FPL team, the other for my bottom 5 team, so either you register or I need a new e-mail.

E-mail me at the address you used for the Euros and we can discuss a team name and a team.

Thanks for replies earlier guys. I won't get Fatman & Robin then.

But I'm really, really struggling with my transfer. Already done Gerrard > Sissoko but need another for a decent GW27 team.

Need to drop one of Suarez, Sturridge or Guthrie for someone who will play both GW27 and GW29. With £5.2m in the bank, money is almost no object.

RVP > Pog and go for the 'most cash in the bank' award 🙂

I like the idea of Cisse but not sure about doubling on Newcastle.

Benteke has some horrible fixtures but Lambert is looking like a solid option.

I can see why you'd think that. If I'd just drafted in Sissoko, I'd probably look to Bentekkers or Lambert instead of Cisse for that reason, to spread the risk a little.

I think that's where I'm leaning. It is surprisingly difficult. The blank GW29 really shines a light how few teams are supplying us with viable midfielders at the moment.

If Gaston Ramirez were fit, I'd get him.

I've seen him a lot and he is top class. He has a low centre of gravity and a burst of acceleration that makes him glide past players. He always plays with his head up and despite being out for a long time he has come back and has comfortably been one of, if not the, best Arsenal player this season.

I think he's overrated for the exact reason you've just stated.

He has potential. Potential is future ability, not present.

Please Reply 🙁 Is it time to sell Remy following Harry's statement.. If yes then who's the best replacement? Power 5 with RVP & Lambert upfront now.. 2.1m at bank.. So who's the replacement for 4 point hit?

Ready to spend 2.1m.. So can afford till 8.1m.. Ba is at that price but too much of risk now.. Buying Giroud disturbs my starting 11 in GW 29.. So who else?

Graham to starting 11 means Fletcher will be in the hole.. If 4-4-2 then also poins will be shared between them.. Giroud's good even if I've Walcott, Fellaini? He has Villa up next..

    Repost, lost on last page:

Is it crazy to think about bringing in Aguero for a punt?

Thinking Suarez and GJ -> Rafael and Aguero (-4) this week. Then doing Fellaini and Pog to cheapie and Sturridge in two weeks. Good move?
