The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Liverpool hammer Wigan at the DW, as Luis Suarez sweeps aside the lacklustre Latics with a hat-trick. Stewart Downing and Philippe Coutinho also pick up the points as the Reds win on the road for the first time since Gameweek 20:

On the Up

Luis Suarez
Reinstalled to the lone forward role as Daniel Sturridge missed out with a knock, the Uruguayan ran riot at the DW this evening. Suarez’s hat-trick took him to 21 goals for the season – two ahead of Robin Van Persie in the race for the Golden Boot. With maximum bonus looking assured, Suarez will now be just 14 points behind the Dutchman at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings and with form, fixtures and guaranteed game time on his side, could well end the season as number one.

Philippe Coutinho
The January signing from Inter scored on his first start for the Reds in the previous league match with Swansea and maintained his strong attacking form with a pair of assists. With Brendan Rodgers keen to protect Raheem Sterling, Coutinho could well be set to feature more prominently in the first XI from here on in and looks a decent mid-price option at 6.5 in FPL.

Stewart Downing
An early opener added to his assist against Swansea in Liverpool’s last league encounter, meaning Downing has now produced returns in back-to-back Gameweeks for the first time this season. At 5.7, he could be another option, with starts certainly looking assured – he has been named in the first XI in each of the last 13.

Glen Johnson
Subject of our recent members article, which drew comparisons with Jose Enrique’s numbers, it was Johnson’s turn to deliver today with a smart assist for Suarez’s third goal which could also see him figure amongst the bonus points. That was the right-backs fifth assist of the season and, with his Gameweek 29 fixture secure, Johnson seems set to earn a batch of new suitors after this timely haul.

Going Down

Daniel Sturridge
Brendan Rodgers’ decision to omit the former Chelsea man is clearly something of a worry for his owners. Sturridge has missed two out of the last three now and with his manager clearly keen to protect him from further damage as he nurses a troublesome thigh problem, his game time is looking less assured as Sturridge shows a propensity to pick up knocks. With the front three all impressing, Rodgers clearly has no need to rush Sturridge back although he will be expected to be in the frame for the Gameweek 29 visit of Spurs.

Wigan Home Form
It seems last week’s 3-0 win at Reading may be something of a false dawn. Many had believed Roberto Martinez’s side were on the verge of their annual surge up the table but instead they capitulated – Wigan have now conceded 31 goals in front of their own fans, four more than any other side.

Anyone considering remy for next week? I'm thinking of swapping rvp for him and then either swapping back or upgrading Benteke to rvp for the following week depending on who scores better gw29.

If I sell RVP, it will be for a certain hat-trick scoring Uruguayan

Think he'll drop by £0.2m more?.

I have Suarez already fortunately. I think rvp could easily drop .2 as there are so many owners and that's so much money sitting on the bench...

yes....100% Tink. I think he will drop 0.2 more by Friday, then again on Saturday. 0.3 all together. 1109 Transfers out in overnight hours on a sunday a mass exodus.

Doubt anyone cares, does anyone here know how to work out probability? Wondering what are the odds that two prem managers share a birthday, and end up playing each other on the day, like Redknapp and Poch.

It was reported last night on football first, massive odds, over 130,00/1 or somthing, may have that figure wrong.

The odds on opposing managers meeting at St Mary’s this season on their birthdays are a mind-boggling 133,407 to 1.

The odds are 364.25 to 1 one manager has a birthday that day (365.25 days per year, taking leap years into account) and the same for the other manager, another 364.25-1 shot.

      So the formula is 365.25 x 365.25 = 133,408... odds of 133,407 to 1!

then *2/38 (#of times they play eachother in a season)
then 1/7 (the probablility that the birthday falls on a sunday....not sure how to figure this one out...might be slightly wrong.)

Well if you went through the fixture calendar and noted every day that a pl game occurs then you would know the probability. E.g. Games are never played on Thursday or Friday, sometimes games are on Monday, Tuesday and wednesday and some weekends are taken for fa cup and internationals etc..

Surely the odds on two people sharing a birthday are 1 in 365 i.e. 364/1.
Everyone has a birthday, so you just need to work out the odds of someone else having the same one.

Everyone here is working out the chance of just two people sharing the same birthday. You have to take into account that there are 20 PL managers. The odds in a population of 20 of 2 people sharing the same birthday is 41.1%. Now you have to build in fixtures, which is the trickier issues!

have a major suarez dilemma...currently have sturridge rvp giroud

    1) when are going to get an indication about the utd city games in gw29

    2) would you bring in Suarez for gw29 if you already have sturridge…esp against spurs bt he will probably rise by 0.3 this week...initial plan included bringing in benteke for giroud

Well I am not gonna do the RVP to Suarez transfer this week. They are playing Spurs anyway. That won't be an easy game. The damage is already done. And I bought RVP late for 13,6 so I could sell him for the value, but I am not interested in that. This time of the season I don't want to spend 2 of my last 10 FT for RVP in RVP out. You all gonna want him for the Rdg and later games. I actually like the fact: people selling him for the "value". Come onnnn All our teams are 110m or more, who cares about value we speak about pts from now on. Instead wasting on the RVP transfers I am gonna get some low owned players and improve my team elsewhere. I have plenty of cash in the bank (Thanks Sturridge 🙁 ) .

Bottom line, selling RVP for Suarez is too late. GW 28 maybe was the right thing to do. U will use the RVP cash elsewhere and will struggle to get him back . That is 8pts minus. If Suarez doesn't score another hack trick, which he wont it isn't the right deal.

    Cheers all.

Yeah, I think you're spot on.

Apart from his blank, I see no reason to sell RVP. Keeping him was the right decision, it's just that the guy we would have replaced him with did exceptionally well.

Sturridge's absence and Suarez's hat-trick were an unfortunate turn of evens for Sturridge and non Suarez owners. If Studge is out for a few weeks, Studge > Suarez is my plan.

Studg>Suraez is a bit sideways if they are both fit. Blank GW is a great opportunity to do the switch at RVP expense! Can you muster enough cash to get do Stu>RVP in GW30 if you take a hit?

If you just want to play at getting new players and rolling the dice then fine, it depends what your rank is I suppose.

My point the blank week only needs adjustment as most people are happy with their teams.

I will RVP > suarez (free) then Lambert > RVP (also free). I won't lose any value, I'll field a great side, then back to business as usual (which is bouncing up and down the top 500) but with BOTH rvp and suarez.

Depends if you can field XI without suarez.....if you cant, I reckon it is still a decent shout. His fixtures are very good after TOT. I am starting to think that Sturridge is made of glass and that Suarez is the one to keep long term. Sturridge can be dumped after DGW for RVP

David Moyes is considered a front-runner to be the next Chelsea manager according to the bookmakers, and the Blues position would be reward for a decade of over-achieving with Everton.

The Scot is out of contract at the end of the season, so no comepensation would be needed - not that would be a worry to Chelsea.

I would like Moyes for long term

My team before this GW looked ready for GW29 no problem. Now I got 3 confirmed doubts (Kebe, Fed and Sturridge) and Cuellar haven't earned back his spot yet. Basically, 5 doubts/non-starters/blankers in my starting lineup and 1FT :/

Frustrating when you plan GW27 and GW29 blanks so smart by getting the Reading players with their excellent price and fixtures those weeks, then two of them get injuried!
