The Stock Check – Monday

Sunderland show spirit to battle back with ten men and earn a precious point courtesy of a John O’Shea goal, after Jon Walters had struck from close range for visiting Stoke. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday night’s relegation scrap.

On the Up

Jon Walters
When the Potters required vital goals, it’s been Walters who has been on hand to provide them. Three strikes in eight matches doesn’t sound that impressive but, when you consider that Stoke have notched just six goals in that spell, the scale of Walters’ contribution is clear. Quietly, he’s moved to eight goals for the season, surpassing last season’s tally with two games to spare. Walters is an unfashionable option but, if he remains classified in midfield next term and on Stoke spot-kicks, it’s clear he is a player that can be relied upon over the course of the season.

John O’Shea
Another hugely unfashionable Fantasy signing, O’Shea has been Sunderland only real secure defensive asset. aside from Simon Mignolet in goal, but has attracted under 3% ownership. Those Fantasy managers will have been delighted with a second goal of the season tonight and, with four assists to his name, O’Shea has enjoyed a steady campaign, having also gained nine clean sheets.

Going Down

Craig Gardner
A reckless “over the top” challenge on Stoke’s Charlie Adam saw Gardner receive a straight red after just 34 minutes, with Sunderland already a goal down. The Black Cats rallied without him but, with Steven Fletcher injured and Stephane Sessegnon suspended, Paolo Di Canio is now without his three leading scorers for the remaining two fixtures, although he it should be noted that he elected to start Gardner at right-back this evening.

Marc Wilson
The Stoke left-back was again introduced back into the starting lineup following recent hamstring problems and, for the second match running, was forced off as the injury plagued him once again. Wilson has not completed 90 minutes since Gameweek 31 and will again be a concern for Stoke’s remaining fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Okay, second question.
If you were Messi level but supported someone sh*t (so say Unreal was as good as Messi and his loyalty was to Sunderland).
    Would you;

    a) play for your boyhood heroes and hope for a cup medal and take less money

    b) sign for a big name club and seek medals galore and silly money.

    Surely all B this time?

Do you think if Di Canio came out of retirement for 2 games as player manager and played himself up front ahead of danny graham it would improve sunderland?

I think it could. his natural skill, better eye for goal and decent fitness for a retired guy would be enough.

How amazing would it be if he done it then scored the goal that kept you up?

B Club football is all about your career and making as much money and winning as many medals as possible. If you were really that good you could play the club you support later on in your career when your time on the top level is over if you so wished.

I always think he is just not good enough to own.
Maybe just me, but cheap strikers all offer little I think.

You could point out how it directly inspired oppressed community's in other parts of the world to seek civil rights such as catholics in Northern Ireland in the 1960s.

I am sure many civil rights movements were inspired by the black mans sturggle in the U.S.A. the American Indian Aboriginal Australian South African rights movements all were inspired by the American Civil Rights Movement. I am sure you could fill a few pages talking about this

ah. so its not even in the course material at all?
          thats tricky.

          I would probably guess the key moments are;
          civil war/ end slavery
          getting vote
          rosa park
          60s movements

You could do something about whether abolition of slavery drove the war at all.
As far as I know, the south left and the north feared they would get richer using slavery and take the western states.
So it was more about wanting the western territory than anything.

Neutralise you opponent in more dangerous places. keepers cant kill you. captains kill you.

I would like both really injury's might force my hand towards Coutinho 1st but i fancy Sturridge more.

I could do RVP and Michu > Sturridge and Coutinho. Have no Arsenal midfielders though so will probably have to go with Walcott ahead of Coutinho.

Sturridge, he seems to be playing like someone with something to prove which will keep him motivated to the finish. Will be my first move, if no injuries in the week. Coutinho also good player to have, absolute class, but even when he dominates he is more about the assists, could yet be closer to a new Modric than Fabragas when it comes to FF points

    hart
    dawson,sagna,rangel
    mata,bale,michu,yaya
    Rvp,tevez,benteke

he did it before the price change. but he had michu since a long time. michu's selling price has to be 8.1 mil for that move to be true. but i guess for him michu's selling price is less than 8.1.

You could narrow it down by looking at his transfer history, this will give you the date players were bought then see on player history what price they were. It's a hell of a lot of work.
FPL used to have it all in transfer history but cut a huge bunch of the stats out from it.

Morning dzzz, how we all doing? The dawn of no fpl in a few weeks is frightening 🙁

    1) who would you start between Maloney and berb this week? Berbs right?
    2) planning to get of Clark, michu, bebrs over me to 2gws
    A: Clark + michu >> sagna + coutinho (-4) .will do berbs >> sturridge >> in gw38
    B: Clark + michu >> sagna + lallana (-4)..do berbs >! Sturridge in gw38
    C: Clark + berbs >> Dawson + sturridge (-4)..do michu >> Nolan gw38
    D: michu + berbs >> xxx + sturridge (-4)

    - will start berbs is gw with option A and B
    - will start Maloney this gw with option C
    - will have a good front 7 but only 2 defenders (and davies against united) with option D

      1) probably maloney imo
      2) probably A or C. i'd be weary of taking a hit for a defender though...

i'd look to get coutinho or possibly lamps in for michu and get sturridge or carroll in for berba over the next two weeks. leave your defense imo

My defenders are Baines jones Davies Clark Harte, so over next two gw's
        - jones (nor, utd)...rotation threat
        - Davies (utd, FUL)..roation threat
        - Clark doesn't play
        - Harte doesn't play

Will get 0 points from my third defender I reckon in two gw's, so sagna shd get 8 over next two weeks I reckon

yeah but based on the fixtures, losing ddg for hart this week or last was the right thing to do. hart with a dgw vs swansea and west brom is at least 4pts better than ddg playing chelsea. and that's not even taking into account the fact that ddg could be benched with the titled already wrapped up

reina perhaps. don't think hart is worth a hit at this point, especially with only two games to make it up. lloris has (sto, SUN) whereas reina has (ful, QPR). that's definitely a tough one. you'll need to take into account the attacking threat (or lack thereof) of those teams, and their motivation (or lack thereof)

depends if how chelsea do vs spurs. if they win then there will likely be rotation with the cup final but if they lose i think they'll have to play the likes of mata and hazard.

wouldn't want silva though. mata hazard or caz for a higher priced mid. lamps/coutinho/nasri look good as well though

hard to say. i'd be inclined to lose him as he's not been scoring as much recently and you don't know if he'll start or not. and downgrading him can help you upgrade other players and take a few good punts if you want.

Am thinking I might take a hit to do RVP > Sturridge and Michu > Mata/ Cazorla. I don't like SAF's tinkering as I think it will effect RVP's output.
I'd do it over two weeks generally but I don't want to play Scneiserlin as he looks injured.

As I have made some irrational decisions based on you guys,

Invest what money I have made into property as I have seen a potential bargain

    or

Go travelling (again) to South America, USA and Canada for x amount of months/years

Well he is second choice when Ade is fit. And he is!
Plus Defoe has been out a while and isn't really in form unlike Lukaku.

you guys need to go invest in some better strikers.

and good luck ever losing ade with his massive wages (or did you get those lowered somehow?)

tell me about it... Every time Ade smirks when he is on the picture I want to smash the TV... very lazy player, he could be ok if he made an effort...

Desperately need the CL to keep Bale and attract a top name striker.. If we don't make it, it will be disasterous in a number of ways

Good luck with the diet anyway.

I can imagine it must be tough. Is the rest of the family also eating what you are eating? Who prepares the food at home? Does the wifey work or is she a stay at home mom?

                    Cheers, it is indeed tough.

My wife and I are both doing it. After the baby she wanted to get back into shape (for me she was never out of shape but you know women) and I have been meaning to properly for a while so it made sense to do it together... The food preparation is done by both of us as we are both good at certain things but it does take a lot more time preparing eating healthy shite.... My missus is at home looking after he kids...

Cool, nice that the wife can help. I'm the cook at home since i get home first and the wife often works late. I have no problem with that as i enjoy cooking(especially with a glass of vino in my hand!)

My biggest issue has always been drinking water. I hate it. I know it's healthy and all that jazz, but I can't stomach it.

Just finished a 3-day cleanse, myself. The hardest part was the two days AFTER the cleanse, during which I STILL couldn't eat the stuff I was craving, as you need two days of porridge or the like so as to not damage your intestines.

Clean eating is amazing, though. I'm down 30 pounds over the last year and not really hungry ever. Still help myself to a large roasted chicken sub from Subway every lunchtime. It's the water that does the trick, I feel. Can't imagine going back to my old habits...looking good without a rigorous exercise regime? Priceless!

leading my league by 25 pts

    michu out for

    A) Lampard ( the 2nd placed team has him + he is likely to feature in both matches for the goal scoring record)

    B) Cazorla (he is long due)

    C) Any other player up to 9.5 other than coutinho as i think liverpool without gerrard are not likely to create much (i have 3 man city players + fellaini)

Chasing about a 20 point lead in my mini-league.

    My front 8 is:
    Mata, Bale, Walcott, Yaya, Schneiderlin
    RVP, Tevez, Lukaku

I need to take a hit and get rid of Yaya. Who's best mid for 6.9 but not Couthino (who my rival has)?

    A) Nolan,
    B) Maloney,
    C) Adam Johnson,
    D) someone else? who?
