The Stock Check – Monday

Sunderland show spirit to battle back with ten men and earn a precious point courtesy of a John O’Shea goal, after Jon Walters had struck from close range for visiting Stoke. Here’s the Stock Check on Monday night’s relegation scrap.

On the Up

Jon Walters
When the Potters required vital goals, it’s been Walters who has been on hand to provide them. Three strikes in eight matches doesn’t sound that impressive but, when you consider that Stoke have notched just six goals in that spell, the scale of Walters’ contribution is clear. Quietly, he’s moved to eight goals for the season, surpassing last season’s tally with two games to spare. Walters is an unfashionable option but, if he remains classified in midfield next term and on Stoke spot-kicks, it’s clear he is a player that can be relied upon over the course of the season.

John O’Shea
Another hugely unfashionable Fantasy signing, O’Shea has been Sunderland only real secure defensive asset. aside from Simon Mignolet in goal, but has attracted under 3% ownership. Those Fantasy managers will have been delighted with a second goal of the season tonight and, with four assists to his name, O’Shea has enjoyed a steady campaign, having also gained nine clean sheets.

Going Down

Craig Gardner
A reckless “over the top” challenge on Stoke’s Charlie Adam saw Gardner receive a straight red after just 34 minutes, with Sunderland already a goal down. The Black Cats rallied without him but, with Steven Fletcher injured and Stephane Sessegnon suspended, Paolo Di Canio is now without his three leading scorers for the remaining two fixtures, although he it should be noted that he elected to start Gardner at right-back this evening.

Marc Wilson
The Stoke left-back was again introduced back into the starting lineup following recent hamstring problems and, for the second match running, was forced off as the injury plagued him once again. Wilson has not completed 90 minutes since Gameweek 31 and will again be a concern for Stoke’s remaining fixtures.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Biggest question for me this week is Lampard or Coutinho?

I have no CHE or LIV cover at present, but am thinking of Berbs -> Studge in GW38.

    a) Lampard - bigger goal threat, on pens and with more to play for (both for club and personally)
    b) Coutinho - more secure for minutes, plays more advanced and has better fixtures

    Whatcha reckon?

Players are required to have made 10 appearances in a club's first team to qualify for a medal.

Lindegaard have made 9, which means he will most likely play at least one of the two remaining fixtures.

How many matches must a player have appeared in to receive a league-winning medal?

Players are required to have made 10 appearances in a club's first team to qualify for a medal.

Clubs must submit an application for additional medals to be awarded to players who have not reached this tally.

    Hart
    Azpil GJ Saga
    Mata Bale Walcott Maloney Coutinho
    RVP Tevez

(Current bench: Bunn Defoe Clyne Pearce)

Benching Defoe seems wrong, but he's not exactly setting the world alght right now. Bringing in Sturridge seems a popular option, but I already have 2 pool. Any helpful advice appreciated?

I really should be marking student essays, but I'd much rather look at what you guys have to say.

I've done the BBC predictor and I've got Norwich to go down. My fiancee guessed last night's result bang-on though, so I think she may have uncovered football predicting abilities (she does have Wigan to draw 0-0 with Swansea tonight, so perhaps not...)

Hoping for big performances from Aguero, Tevez, Kone and Hart tonight, and for Nasri to stay very quiet indeed.

You've hit the nail on the head. Nobody could have expected Sunderland to get hammered 6-1 after their two previous results, and when they went 1-0 down last night and went down to 10 men, I thought they would lose for sure. Yet, they emerge with a point.

Newcastle and Norwich look awful at the moment, but they both have one favourable fixture left each to get them out of trouble. So who knows?

Good to go for GW37? All transfers used

    Hart
    Vert,Demel,Sagna
    Bale,Maloney,Coutinho,Hazard (yellow)
    Tevez,RVP,Lukaku

    Subs: Fed, MartinR,Wilson, Schneiderlin

Still dunno who to C and VC

    DDG (Bunn)
Zabaleta | Sagna | Dawson (Clyne Turner)
    Bale(VC) | Walcott | Mata | Nasri (Townsend)
    RVP | Tevez | Lukaku(C)

Any transfer should i be doing? besides Turner, wouldn't affect me anyway as i would still play Zab|Sagna|Dawson. Nasri has the easiest last 2 fixtures, and getting plenty of gametime therefore theres no need right.

Yeah any transfer that gets rid of Lukaku(c) would be good. Preferably to Benteke.

10/3 for Norwich to get relegated? Am I the only one that wants to put $55 on that?

Well, I don't really like betting much more than that. I'm not like a professional gambler or anything.

Why, how much would you normally bet?

Depends what I am betting on. Don't bet too much these days. Just have a lazy $20 on it then & use the $35 for something better. You still have to wait to collect.

Anyone got any ideas for competitions I can run with everyones (main) team?

Last Man Standing is the only one I can think of atm. Bottom 5 or whatever after hits each GW get knocked out.

How about an ignoring hits competition? Force people to destroy their teams for the last two weeks?
