KPI Analysis – Robin Van Persie

A fortnight ago, we rolled out a Preview Movie of the latest addition to our Members Area – the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables. Essentially, these track the frequency of certain key statistics that can help Fantasy managers identify a player’s form – whether it be a turn for the good or worse – over a Gameweek range or season. With this in mind, our first KPI focused members article looks at Robin Van Persie’s first season at United compared to his final year leading the line for Arsenal.

By tracking Van Persie’s frequency of key stats, Fantasy managers can begin to quantify and identify the exact areas of the Dutchman’s game that have altered since his move to Old Trafford last summer as they prepare potential investment for the season ahead.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hey guys.

Can you go to the ticker and try to sort the GW3 games by difficulty? For some reason mine doesn't work and I wondered if I was the only one.

    GW1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 work fine. Just GW3

    Yours?

Anyone else thought about a mid price rotation combination of Nolan+J-Rod.

Think it will serve well for the first few weeks with one or both becoming early bandwagons and then sell either when the transfer window is closed and team selections are a little more obvious (eg. Kagawa/Rooney/Suarez/Bale/Dzeko/Aguero etc all have a question marks over them).

    The season to play 3-5-2?

I've always been a 3-4-3 fan because of the flexibility it affords in terms of transfers moving through the season. I.e. if you're third striker is 5.5/6m fodder then you have to release cash through transferring elsewhere in order to upgrade; which means two transfers.

The number of appealing midfielders this season though - coupled with uncertainty around almost every forward - is making me reconsider this with a view to moving to a 3-5-2.

Almost every "premium*" forward I can think of has doubt surrounding them. *Premium in my view is a forward from a top seven club (MUN,MCI,CHE,ARS,TOT,LIV, EVE) - the archetypal goal scoring machines from seasons gone by.
RVP - very expensive at £14m.
MCI forwards - rest and rotation (I 100% do not by that Dzeko is going to be their "main man".
CHE - rest and rotation again.
ARS - Giroud actually appears nailed on unless ARS sign another forward (but ultimately though, it's Giroud).
TOT - Soldado is not proven in the PL - he could hit the ground running but e could take time to adjust.
LIV - is Suarez going? Is Sturridge fit? Will they sign another forward? Minefield.
EVE - rest and rotation again.

My point is that to get a nailed on forward - who isn't RVP or Giroud - we're looking into the middle echelon of the league. Benteke, Carroll, Berbatov, Rodrigues, Cisse, Long and Bony. All good options, and I'm sure one will explode and score bags of goals this season, but there is risk and uncertainty.

Premium midfielders on the other hand jump off the page with the exception of MUN. Silva, Hazard, Walcott, Bale (albeit unlikely), Coutinho, Mirallas. I want all of them in my team and that's even before I've considered the mid-priced options.

The conclusion I've reached is that 3-5-2 is much more appealing this season than it has been in previous seasons and this is due to the number of premium midfielders that offer good price/ value and are 100% nailed on to play relative to the fewer number forwards who are nailed on.

not a chance, Arsenal have first refusal at £25m.

If Barca are willing to sell, Wenger will drive there and pick him up himself.
Wenger has only said one thing on the matter which is, he will stay at Barca for another year.

      agreed.

for me i think Lukaku will become Drogba and lead the line for Mourinho. if he wasnt already at chelsea what he did over last season would have enticed bids of £30-40m for his services. so thats one slot that im pretty confident is taken.

the other 2 there are a lot of options. most people are getting walcott/silva/hazard/miralles in midfield so ideally the remaining 2 fwd slots should go to Utd/Liv/Tot players.

RVP is too expensive and the initial fixtures are poor. I also think Kagawa will come through this year (last year injured by still got 87pts in 1300mins - if we pro-rata that its 214pts for the season) to make an ideal 5th mid for a Power 5.

That leaves Liverpool or Spu*s for the final slot. I wouldnt touch an unproven player so Sturridge is there by default, and fixtures suit also.

I've got Sturridge down as not certain at the mo. I understand he's injured at the moment and might not be fit for the start of the season. Suarez to ARS or Madrid is far from a done deal which means that from GW7 onwards he could be back and competing. Sturridge was heavily affected by Suarez last season. Sturridge could therefore be a four/five gw punt.

I think Lukaku might become Drogba and I agree with you about Kagawa...also Moyes may pick a more settled team than Fergie did

I think there are a multitude of interesting possibilities for teams without RVP and Bale...there is zero chance I's go Baleless if he stays but let's face it he's going to go

one possibility is to pick an even more aggressive team than uber mo suggests...what about 8 attacking players who can score a hat-trick and stuff the cheap bench players...a team like this leaves money on the bench but it's very flexible, allows you to pick somebody like Dzeko if you want and you can easily switch to a cheap and hot dirt-cheap midfielder or attacker whenever you like

some people like starting with cash in the bank...this is the same idea except you put that cash into your cheap attacking player

I'm starting 3-4-3 but 3-5-2 looks good this season. Dzeko is getting hard to ignore, RVP is a must (not playing Bale)....then take your pick for the 3rd spot...Girood/Studdge/Lambert/Berbatov

    Just read the article.

This KPI feature is amazing! It will be very useful to identify who is over-/underperforming.

The article has also made me rethink Giroud! He could be a great pick this season if Arsenal don't manage to sign a striker.

Seems to be FPL policy that onlt the out & out striker is classed as a Forward. 2 wide players in a 4-3-3 formation are usually classed as midfielders. Those who play "in the hole" are usually classed as Midfielders and even Michu who played 60% plus of his games last season as the out and out centre forward has been classed as a midfielfer again................

There really is a need for a new classification of "attacking midfielder" but it appears FPL putting head in the sand........................
