Monitor – David Silva

Having failed miserably to defend their title last time out, City’s decision to install Manuel Pellegrini at the helm is a deliberate move away from the more conservative approach favoured by Roberto Mancini. The Chilean’s summer acquisition of forwards Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic, however, while good news for City fans, has led to fears that the up-front rest and rotation policy so favoured by Mancini will once again rear its head.

With a goal and assist over the first couple of Gameweeks, David Silva has thrown his hat in the ring as a real alternative route into an attack that has already racked up six goals – more than any other side in the top-flight. The little Spaniard affords a far greater security of game time, with his creativity crucial to creating chances for Pellegrini’s frontmen and ahead of a home clash with Hull, his Fantasy bandwagon is in overdrive as Eden Hazard and Juan Mata owners look to the City playmaker as a premium midfield alternative.

In this latest article for members, we analyse Silva’s performances so far. Check on his progress compared to last season and assess his credentials at the most sought-after midfielder in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

JWP is not guaranteed to keep his starting position.
Lambert sat a fair # last year
JWP has been a top mid for Saints.

Repost from last night, hope to get an opinion or two!

Not sure which defenders to play this week (besides Zabaleta), need to play 2 out of these 4:
Mertesacker (TOT) - CS unlikely but likes to score against Spurs, picks up BPS
Clyne (nor) - Norwich have struggeled offensively but he may not play 90 minutes
MTurner (SOU) - Bassong will be back for Norwich so they should improve defensively
Ward (STK) - one of the very few games you'd fancy Palace to get a CS, also offers some offensive potential.

Currently on Mert + Clyne, what do you think?

I'm off for a while but it's an interesting debate with Silva so I'll leave you with these two points:

    - if he scores it will be rare, so when he does you want maximum bony. He got just 1 v New. 5m defenders have done nothing more than break wind and come out with 3. Bonus is of course a pattern and we need patterns for predictability.

    - some talk of fear. I'm the opposite as never fear him detonating. He's not an explosive captaincy option either. Not owning a Walcott for example strikes fear.

    (Vert/Zabs) Coleman Shaw

    Mirallas (Chadli/Snoddy) Silva Coutinho

    (Lambert/Soldado) Aguero Benteke

    OR

    (Toure K/ Zabs) Coleman Shaw

    Mirallas Snoddy Silva Coutinho

    (Lambert/Soldado) (VP/Aguero) Benteke

It's crazy how RvP was 14m in FPL, in La Liga fantasy, Messi and Ronaldo are 14m, and i don't think RvP is head and shoulders above the rest like those two are.

For example, if Ronaldo had gone to Man Utd, would he have been 14m? Because i think in FPL everyone would agree Ronaldo is a far greater prospect

Take a hit for Silva before his prioce rises too much? Already missed out a little so tempted to wait anyway. It would be MIrallas making way and would impact on my ability to upgrade Lambert on my front line or to upgrade any of my 3 x 4.0m defenders.

Took a hit for Silva (c) to field 11 this week, but in your situation I'd probably give Mirallas another week
