When do people think Lamela will get a start? Went for him on my WC over Eriksen, because longer term I reckon he's a better prospect, and was prepared for him to be benched this week. But Siggys brace has made me wonder if he might be warming the timber for some time to come, in which case I'd be better switching until he starts.

I think he'll start next PL game, worst case scenario the one after. He's twice the player of Townsend and Siggy, just getting eased in. If they needed a goal he'd have come on earlier last game.

Risk reward ratio is what you have to consider, if there are no stand-out players who could explode (suarez, RVP etc) who people are captaining in that GW then you could take the risk. Personally I think it could pay off.

Before GW4 my captain picks had been good, before Soldado this week. Was between him and Tekkers but ultimately picked the wrong one.

Just a general question- I guess the easiest way to ask is what do people consider the minimum return for a good captain pick? Don't necessarily mean in terms of points, but is it 1 assist? 1 goal?

Mine will when Toure's name is not on the team sheet. Got collins coming in but that'll just offset everyone else's Mignolet clean sheet and Sturridge goal.

in my mini league alone there a few annoying Welbeck (c) Giroud (vc) so can see it shooting up tonight..annoyingly.

True. But Ozil has played against better defenses than stoke. Plus I feel Arsenal will use Theo,Gibbs and Sagna/Jenkinson to break stoke. Speed is the key 😉

I know its early but just thinking through some options..

    Boruc(Lewis)
    Vida,Mert,Collins,Wilson,Chester
    Wally,Barfa,Lamp,Siggy,Ravel
    Ronney,Giroud,Suarez

1,1mil in the bank..could have Eriksen instead of Siggy or upgrade deffence

Turner out tonight before price drop, who would you suggest as a replacement?

    A: Koscielny / Mert.
B: Walker .. good fixtures and some attacking threat
    C: Terry .. rotation?
D: Ivanovic .. most expensive, but most attacking threat

    Migs - Boruc
    Coleman - K.Toure - Chester - Ward - £6.8mil

I'm a fan of infographics when they work. Glad you and Will are trying them, so don't be put off by feedback. Just use the feedback to improve the next one.

The essence of an infographic is to use graphics to make information (usually numerical) easier to understand. With a simple comparison between two people, as in this case, you need to have each pair of figures side by side (as many have said).

Also, figures don't have to be delivered as figures. You could rework this as a series of pie charts, for instance, with the winner getting a bigger slice of the pie. Place the actual numbers on the slices of pie, so people can dig deeper into it, after getting the overall information at first glance.

Also, the fact that Özil played for maybe 13% longer than Eriksen significantly distorts many of the per-game figures (number of passes, etc), and makes direct comparisons tricky. If you WERE doing pie charts, you could divide each figure into the number of minutes the player played, and visualise that instead, so the comparisons were fairer.

On a statistical note: the data sets here are incredibly small -- less than one game each! -- and there are massive hidden variables not accounted for. They played very different opponents; Spurs were playing home, Arsenal playing away; Özil was sick that morning; etc, so these stats are highly unreliable no matter how you visualise them!

Keep going though, it's an interesting experiment.

WC active and going with non-RVP team (probs in 3-4-3) so will have a nice warchest to upgrade defence.

If money no object who are the essential 'heavyweight' picks you would go for if you could start from scratch?

My first thought was Evra, Ivanovic, Vertonghen/Walker? Or should I be looking a Liverpooll/City too? (don't have Migs so no 'Pool cover; not having Zab has hurt me so far in my mini-league)

      Mignolet covers liverpool
Evra or Vidic depending on budget
Walker or Vert depending on budget
      Three of -
      Giroud
      Benteke
      Sturridge
      Rooney

      I'm probably going Giroud/Benteke/Rooney and Vidic/Walker.

Now that the season's shaping up, what are all your aims this season fpl-wise?

Last season, i started GW5 and finished 600k.

This season, reasonable start, sitting at 258k. finish in top 10k a reasonable target? or am i underestimating how hard that is?

What rank are you aiming for? Any more general aims for the season? to get a century or to go the whole season without RVP for example?

Probably finish top 10k this season, could have last season but I let myself forget about FPL for a month or so and it did a lot of damage. Probably aim to go without RVP barring something insane (as in Studge, Giroud, Soldado, Tekkers and Lukaku all being injured).

Top ten K is very possible.

I've been around 300K mark at Christmas before and still finished top 10K. Easily done with a few great gameweeks.

My original aim was to improve on last year's 1,500th...but after the start I've had I'd be satisfied with 10K finish but pretty happy with top 5K. I consider outside the top 10K a disaster.

It's very difficult to finish in the top 10k in my humble under-achieving opinion-I've yet to crack that nut with 12696, 65473, 81609, 13298, 20876 & 14172 finishes in my six years playing the game. You need a healthy amount of luck to finish that high too.

But, it's what I aim for every year, plenty on here have finished in top 100 and even number 1,so, they may be able to enlighten you on the secret to their success!

Love this article, great idea. As threeleftfeet suggests, might as well take this idea to its logical conclusion. I'd suggest visualizing the numbers as bar charts for Ozil v Eriksen. Maybe divide the infographic into two halves. One half has Ozil and the other half has Eriksen, and the bars are adjacent to each other but obviously on the corresponding sides.

No joke, I'd been thinking the other day if you visualized that goldmine of OPTA stats in the members area, you could make it work at a whole new level.

    Keep up the good work.

Also yes, in addition to the bar charts to record their absolute numbers of shots/chances created etc, pie charts showing what proportion of the team shots/chances they got would be an intriguing extra. Just a thought.

Was on wildcard last week and changed team to the above leaving 1.9 mill to get Sturridge back following the highly successful Danny Welbeck 1 week punt I had last week. Now Moyes has decided that Rooney is a striker again my plan is in turmoil.
I really want Sturridge for the weekend and would want Rooney/Soldado/Sturridge long term but price is against me so it looks like Soldado will have to go instead.

Should I do Welbeck>Sturridge this week and Soldado>Rooney + Rio>5 mill centre half (eg Hangeland) 4 point hit next week

Or Welbeck>Sturridge this week then Giroud>Rooney + either Rio>4 mill or lose £1.2 mill from downgrading a midfielder and if so who?

Or do i just stick to my original plan and just hope I get by without Man United cover and maybe change Ben Afra if Valencia or Young cement a space in future.

P.S i hope you get a right bad dose o the shits this week Moyes!!!!
