Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope Returns

This evening we bring back the Scout’s Suspension Tightrope widget, which is now available in your right sidebars under the Watchlist rankings.

For those of you less familiar with these pages, the tightrope offers a window into the more nefarious antics of the Premier League and the impact these indiscretions may have upon our Fantasy form. Cards are counted up from League Cup, FA cup and Premier League matches and the table is updated after each Gameweek – we’ll aim to share the Fantasy implications of the latest yellows and reds dished out by referees as we go.

We’ll bring you news of all the suspensions to blight our game, along with a regular update of the yellow card totals of the most heinous perpetrators as they approach the precipice of a ban and mount the ‘Suspension Tightrope’.

At present, there is just one player currently teetering on the brink of a one-match ban. Arsenal’s Mathieu Flamini is the man in question, after picking up his fourth caution of the season in the Gunners’ draw against West Brom on Sunday afternoon – the Frenchman has now been booked in four of his five league appearances since returning to the Emirates this summer.

Given Flamini’s propensity for picking up yellows, he looks highly likely to be facing suspension soon – essentially, he has to avoid incurring the referee’s wrath up to and including December 31, when the card quota is then extended to 10.

Plenty of others currently sit on three yellows, with just a couple more cautions set to trigger a ban. Amongst the most notable in Fantasy terms, the list includes Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, who is owned by 30% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, whilst cut-price midfielder Ross Barkley and Ravel Morrison are also in the mix, along with the likes of Craig Gardner, Jon Walters and Marouane Chamakh.

Fernando Torres and Lucas are now both available after each served a one-match suspension in the previous Gameweek. Torres is still sidelined with a knee injury, though, while his former Liverpool team-mate is expected to return to the fold as Brendan Rodgers takes his team to Tyneside to face Newcastle next time around.

Finally the transfer market seems to have settled.. people got the kneejerking out of their systems looks like. May not lose too much on Rooney, Mirallas and Eriksen by keepin them for two weeks(if anythin at all). Nice!

Great fixtures on all of them IMO. Nice if you could save the transfers. I've sold Mirallas, went Paulinho over Eriksen, and looking to keep Rooney, unless I transfer him out for Lukaku.

Uhm... not sure I would change much. Brady is injured but is a great long-term option and should be back fairly quick. If you believe the Januzaj wagon has wheels on it, you could do Brady -> Jan, but it's risky. Vidic -> Luiz if you can afford is a possibility. Whatever you do I would use maximum one FT and save the other, team looks great.

Tough to call... 3-5-2 have been working wonders so far, I think they will stick to it and play GJ and JE as wingbacks with Sahko or Skrtel dropping out from the back 3. Perhaps telling that Sahko was the one to vie when Agger came on last game.

He is almost twice the player of their second best player, he will play in the games that matter (pretty much all), being rested when he can I reckon (cup games, easy European games/when the group victory is wrapped).

That depends entirely on his fitness levels and what they have going on midweek. If they have a tough knockout game away in CL midweek, nobody is safe. Nobody. Not in any team.

My point is, Özil is probably one of the last players on Arsenal I'd be worried about getting rested. He's so important and he's got a good engine for a playmaker.

Cazorla was the main man last season. I see this being the team long-term

2 of Ramsey, Flamini, Arteta and Wilshere

      Wally 😯 Caz

      Giroud

Wally/Poldi may play some matches up front, allowing Ox to get some games or Wilshere to play advanced-

If I were AVB I'd drop both widemen, tossing in Chadli and Lamela. They gotta change something up, Defoe in is obviously not the solution to start scoring goals.

I'd say he's 50/50 to start. If it was my priority to get him out, I'd probably save considering his fixture...

That bench is a nightmare. Not sure dropping Ramsey at home to Norwich is a good move. I'm kind of glad all my injuries have meant I haven't had to make any difficult bench decisions this year

Probably asked a few times already but seen as Benteke has a chance to play in Belgium's second game, he must be almost certain for GW8?

We'll see what happens during the two games, he might not even be on the bench. I'd say as things stand now though, yes it's looking good for GW8.

I'm imagining a situation in about a weeks time where thousands of Januzaj buyers will be thinking:

"OK, I bought him as a cheap 5th mid and for his prices rises but maybe I should start him over Eriksen/Ramsey/Barkley etc."

Being guilty of this myself, I'm just what advice you might give.

I'd be v.surprised if he carried on getting regular starts and I always want my cheap mid to be as nailed on as poss. Barkley and Ravel are better options IMO. But if you've got him and he starts I don't see why he isn't as good or better than more expensive options.

Play him GW8 with his performance still fresh in Moyes mind and if he's a no-show, your bench takes over.

I'd expect him to start this week, yeah. But after that? Unless he has another big performance, the week after will be completely unknown.

I just expect that there'll be plenty of 1 pointers and wouldn't be comfortable playing him ahead of Ramsey/Barkely/Eriksen.

    Ivanovic vs Terry ?

    There's only a 0.2 price difference now.

    What do you lot reckon?
    In my opinion,
JT - BPS magnet, attacking threat from set pieces

Ivan - More of an attacking threat IMO, with his forays down the right flank and like Terry, also a threat from set pieces, evident in the game against Villa earlier this season.

I believe Ivanovic is more nailed on than JT.

JT has Luiz and Cahill to contend with, although I think he's the most nailed on out of the 3.

Ivanovic only has Azpilicueta to contend with, and I'm fairly certain Mourinho will play Ivan 95% of the time in the league. Higher chance of him getting subbed off for Azpilicueta in the later stages of the game

Ivan definitely a lot more attacking - a comparison in the members area highlights the differences nicely. Worth the extra 0.2 in my opinion but both should be good options.

Actually, just checked out the gap in the bonus points, wider than I thought - maybe Terry does have the edge as they're a more consistent source of points. Now I'm confused!

Read your first reply, and was quite pleased, considering I brought Ivan in over JT 😆

Now after your 2nd reply, I'm uncertain 😉 Thanks for the insight anyway, hopefully, Ivan proves his worth!

That was one of the things I was concerned about JT's BPs, as mentioned in the OP. It would be the only attribute JT has over Ivan. But like you said it could be what gives him the edge over Ivan.

          Cheers

Ivanovic will be the better investment if Chelsea start turning these low scoring games into more impressive wins - the bonus will dry up for Terry and Ivan's attacking threat will be greater. You need Mourinho to be a bit more gung-ho!

I've got terry. He doesn't shoot as often but when he does it is generally a close range header, and he is a great header of the ball so has a high conversion rate

consider Ivan being on 3 yellows.
I'm on a wc and I need to decide between these 2.

I brought JT over Ivan 2 days ago, mostly because this - Ivan already on 3 yellows

Water down your defence, and upgrade Ramsey to Oscar or Michu?

    Really enjoying this season

A couple of templates starting but not too bad. Loads of top performers and its great for the punters who want to bring in cheapies

Can take gambles on at least six different captaincy choices that work out

Days of rvp(c) for the season or even worse ronaldo(c) are long gone

Makes this game a million times better

I agree that the diversity is a good thing but I'd be hard pushed to say I'm enjoying the season 🙂 Maybe if I can crawl into the top 1m I'd be happier 😉

You must be fuming at that guy whose team was linked yesterday who has simply played for team value and is still around 300k. It's not far off the tactics you employed last year - you were just ahead of your time 😉

I can't decide whether it's comforting or not to realise that he'll simply throw that strong position away in order to chase value. If he took that start and tried to turn it into a good season he's in an incredibly good position to do so.

Ok, so you're going for the 'not comforting' option there? 😉

there are still great points up for grabs... just not those usual blokes ...
definitely makes it more challenging and interesting.....

last time it was all Bale, Michu and Mata in the mid
