Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Third Round Draw

With little time for turnaround between Gameweeks, we roll out the Round 2 results and Round 3 Draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, sponsored by Paddy Power, this evening. Before we look at the remaining contenders for the crown, those taking part should note that these ties take place over Gameweek 15 – the Gameweek 14 midweek matches do not count towards your tally:

Our defending champion Wild Rover seems to have risen to the occasion and, having climbed the rankings in the last couple of weeks, now faces Hillbillypete for a place in the Fourth Round. Wild Rover is one of only three previous Scout Cup winners still remaining; GoonerDave goes up against Mufcste55 – the latter is the favourite here, sitting just outside the top 10,000 – whilst sleepingmaster pits his wits against bigfourleggedbeast.

Mark’s podcast co-host and Champions League tipster Granville swept aside Dullardinho last weekend and now faces The Upper Deckers, who sits just inside the top 1 million. Gaz Downright – who tops the Contributors and Moderators league – is up against 2ndMan, whilst fellow moderators applebonkers and Ryan have been drawn against ste2510 and Bedknobs and Boomsticks respectively.

Amongst the community members still in with a shout, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad takes on Jafooli, The Sarjeant faces Isacki, EpicFAIL has been drawn against The Shadow and Daniel plays host to The Flying Nugget.

Giuliop11 may well be considered the favourite for the title. Sitting in 164th spot overall, he’s the man to avoid – Ferenc55 stands in his way of a Fourth Round spot.

As usual, we name-check the highest scoring winner from the previous round. Realunitedfc takes the honour, after racking up 90 points in Gameweek 13 – now up to around the 17,000-mark, he swaggers into the next fixture against bcdahm.

If you fancy a glance back at the Round 2 results, click here or if you are awaiting the fixture list for the next batch of head-to-head, the draw for the Third Round is available here.

As always, good luck to those still in with a shout of the silverware.

With Boruc out, it doesn't matter how good the Saints back four are. Bench Clyne.

It seems more speculative than before, rather than sticking to facts. E.g. saying that Oscar may get rested and predicting Willian to start? Sure, any player *may* get rested but why particularly Oscar when he only played half a game?

      Open Controls
      1. Demí
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 4 months ago

Rotation doesn't work like that. Oscar may well get rotated. It wasn't Mourinho's plan for Oscar to only play a half. Managers make decisions on who'll play what game much earlier than straight after the previous game. Willian, KDB and Schurrle have all been used sparingly lately and Oscar's played so many games. He makes the most sense, Mata is still fresh and played well in the last game. Mourinho talked alot about rotating after the basel defeat, and it doesn't make sense to play Mata and then just drop him again, even though he did well. Oscar will be feeling it a bit. Him playing 40 minutes doesn't mean he's safe from a rest, it isn't that simplistic. Could be wrong but it's not as clear cut as that.

I didn't update it this week fwiw, but your criticisms(and on the last post) have been taken on board! 😉

Really struggling to pick a replacement for Boruc. I have cash in the bank so can go for pretty much whoever I want. I will rule out Cech though as I think he's overpriced. I have Davis as backup currently so the keeper I bring in needs to be ok on his own unless I burn another transfer.

Mignolet - 3 great home fixtures in four. The issue is that he will probably drop tomorrow and I already have Johnson

DDG - Plain sailing until the January wildcard assuming Man Utd sort their defence out

Howard - Excellent run from GW16 onwards but it feels weird throwing him in for two tough away games

Pantilimon - City useless away so far and three of the next four are away, the only home game being Arsenal

Szczesny - Everton, City and Chelsea in the next four but Arsenal are on top form defensively.

Can anyone offer up some suggestions?

I would get the best keeper possible for the remainder of Dec. Gameweeks -- you can always swap out your keepers in the Jan. wild card.

Looking at the Watchlist (In order):

              1) I have Migs, so I'm sticking with him for now...Boruc was my backup/rotater. Good fixtures in short-term.

              2) Cech: Why not? 6.2 isn't that much and overpriced shouldn't matter if you're just going to replace in a few weeks anyway.

              3) Szczes: Keeping it tighter, but tough fixtures upcoming.

              4) DDG: If you think they can tighten up in the back, he'd be a good choice.

              5) Begovic: I'd pass on him, personally. Only CS recently vs. WB and Sunderland at home, but does have some nice fixtures upcoming.

Didn't realise Cech was down to 6.2 tbf.

I've also got Terry so it would be an expensive double up bearing in mind Chelsea haven't been too solid recently.

The 0.4 extra over DDG would also price me out of a couple of planned transfers.

                  Choose DDG or Migs then?
