Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Third Round Draw

With little time for turnaround between Gameweeks, we roll out the Round 2 results and Round 3 Draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, sponsored by Paddy Power, this evening. Before we look at the remaining contenders for the crown, those taking part should note that these ties take place over Gameweek 15 – the Gameweek 14 midweek matches do not count towards your tally:

Our defending champion Wild Rover seems to have risen to the occasion and, having climbed the rankings in the last couple of weeks, now faces Hillbillypete for a place in the Fourth Round. Wild Rover is one of only three previous Scout Cup winners still remaining; GoonerDave goes up against Mufcste55 – the latter is the favourite here, sitting just outside the top 10,000 – whilst sleepingmaster pits his wits against bigfourleggedbeast.

Mark’s podcast co-host and Champions League tipster Granville swept aside Dullardinho last weekend and now faces The Upper Deckers, who sits just inside the top 1 million. Gaz Downright – who tops the Contributors and Moderators league – is up against 2ndMan, whilst fellow moderators applebonkers and Ryan have been drawn against ste2510 and Bedknobs and Boomsticks respectively.

Amongst the community members still in with a shout, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad takes on Jafooli, The Sarjeant faces Isacki, EpicFAIL has been drawn against The Shadow and Daniel plays host to The Flying Nugget.

Giuliop11 may well be considered the favourite for the title. Sitting in 164th spot overall, he’s the man to avoid – Ferenc55 stands in his way of a Fourth Round spot.

As usual, we name-check the highest scoring winner from the previous round. Realunitedfc takes the honour, after racking up 90 points in Gameweek 13 – now up to around the 17,000-mark, he swaggers into the next fixture against bcdahm.

If you fancy a glance back at the Round 2 results, click here or if you are awaiting the fixture list for the next batch of head-to-head, the draw for the Third Round is available here.

As always, good luck to those still in with a shout of the silverware.

Ditch RVP to Lukaku and use the cash to sort defence and midfield.

Prob just RVP -> Rooney, actually, and then wait and see who hopefully appears as a good mid priced midfielder as Sess and Cabaye aren't that great, imo.

RVP has been suffering niggling injuries this season, he'll be used cautiously over this schedule.

But Rooney's on fire and RVP is an injury doubt. Even if he is fit, he's not even matching his returns. If you only had 1 FT then I'd probably save and give RVP another shot, but, as you've got 2, you may as well ditch him for Rooney to have a guaranteed starter. Plus, it's against Everton so you know Rooney will be up for it...

Haven't seen a lot of West Brom's game tbh but he got 2 assists and 1 goal in the last 4.

He takes set pieces so that's good. I think he's more of an assister
That being said, in the last 4 his stats is very similar to Lampard's. Not a lot of penalty box touches but plenty of shots (10) - only beaten by Coutinho and Huddlestone.

For a 5.0m player and with those stats and fixture backing it up, it's worth a punt.

          And come on, he's Brunt.

Pool fans around? Has any of gerrard's assists/goals come from open play? infact has he been involved in open play attacks at all? His average position is on the halfway line 🙁 .. Thing is i fully expect Pool to smash goals in the next 3 home games. However, i'd expect the players involved in the final attackin third to profit from these smashings and not rely on set pieces as that's a lottery over a small set of fixtures(shippin out after the next 4). with that in mind.. Coutinho or Gerrard?

Liverpool have scored plenty from set pieces this season, Gerrard has obviously reaped the benefits. From open play, he's not enough threat. I think with Gerrard, you dont need to look at the fixtures really. He'll tick over with his penalty duties and free kicks and score at least 10 goals this season, not necessarily in games you'd expect him to.

This was the kind of reply i was looking for! Thanks.. thing is over a span of 10 weeks i'd get gerrard and enjoy the overall ppg.. Since it's only a 4 week punt i was thinking go for the explosiveness of coutinho. Like you said Gerrard could do well against anyone as he relies on set pieces.. Coutinho will do very well in games where teams are being smashed at home and very average in tougher games

exactly, although I'm a bit skeptical about Coutinho's goal scoring ability. His shots on goal are pretty weak and easily saved from what I have seen. But yeah he'll get some assists.

I think I am although he seems such a boring pick in comparison to Coutinho or Walcott. This year is impossible to predict, Gerrard see s the safer option. Walcott wont sstart Hull and Everton, and Coutinho drove me mad at the begining of the season.

I did Oscar to Gerrard this week. Is it a bad move?

Had 2 FT so had to do something and there was no clear choice on who to upgrade.

I know Oscar was fine and Ravel was just rested. Should I have just did Rat -> Evra instead?

Or at least since I kinda wanted double Liverpool attack with NOR WHM CAR next, I should probably just go with Coutinho instead? Who got better underlying stats and more dangerous in terms of scoring?

Or am I just being paranoid and Gerrard is a good choice for the next few weeks.

    Cue Gerrard injury

Vorm should play this week and Swansea got good fixture.
Janu is a concern but it's not urgent since you have good 11 to play this week

Kinda like the Hernandez punt but who would you bench out of those front 8.

      So C for me.

    Oscar - Nasri - Ramsey - Ravel - JWP
    Aguero - Rooney - Suarez

    2 Ft

Yes apart from Suarez Aguero Rooney which I expect will come unstuck any week now.

And in everywhere but FFS land, Ramsey is essential.

Man have you really missed most of the season so far? It must be like coming out from a time capsule

I've seen it as fluctuating and you've had to have been quick to adapt to survive.

First you needed a heavy defence & cheap midfield. Then you needed a heavy front line, medium midfield, medium defence. And now I believe you need to be top heavy. Strong forwads, strong mids, cheap bargains in the backline.

Not as templatish as last season that's for sure. But things are beginning to shape up

      Oscar/Hazard Ramsey Ravel/Barkley
3 of Aguero Suarez Rooney Lukaku

I don't think the template is settled just yet. More twists to come with Wally and Michu I think. And if one of the Rooney/Kun/Suarez gets a ban or injury it'll get a reshuffle.

Its a decent punt though. 17/1 is great odds. Lots of players capable of 2 or more tonight, worth a look man.

flanagan has Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff at home in the next 4. Evans also has great fixtures.
