Community

The Community Round Up

This week has seen the re-emergence of rotating defender strategies, a concept long thought lost, as premium defenders dominated the scoring in the first few weeks of the season.  The community has also been taking a look at potential improvements to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and its bonus points system, as well as airing their ongoing frustrations surrounding those pesky Yaya Toure- and Aaron Ramsey-owning casuals. We catch up with the week’s discussions, along with the very latest in our community tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

Among our most popular posts this week was Maxi’s soapbox-style discussion about team value and his criticism of those placing too much emphasis on how much their Fantasy squad is worth. He ponders whether money made on a player that is a season keeper really matters.

The structure and rules of the FPL game also came under discussion this week, courtesy of Evs. Among ideas to improve the game was Stinkfly’s suggestion that managers be restricted to just two players per team. Also, Gimli Son Of Gloin wants keepers to be given more points for a clean sheet, while Ryan called for defensive midfielders to get rewarded for their hard work protecting the backline.

Granville was also on hand to say his piece, aiming his ire specifically the Bonus Points System (BPS). He was concerned that a whopping seven players gained bonus points during Crystal Palace’s largely drab 1-0 victory over West Ham. Could the BPS be improved? Champ certainly thinks so, with his call to “bring back the man in the stands”.

With premium midfielders starting to pick up points, those who sing at the church of cheap defensive rotation were in good voice this week. Innsie’s post looking at the best options was particularly good, particularly for those already with a Crystal Palace defender. Bankst was another looking at rotation options, this time focusing on goalkeepers. A blend of Cardiff stopper David Marshall and Palace’s Julián Speroni was picked out as particularly enticing.

Talking of keepers, Evs was one of many in the unenviable predicament of having both his stoppers, Southampton’s Artur Boruc and Kelvin Davis, injured going into Gameweek 14. During his discussion about what his fellow sufferers plan to do he talked up (and ended up drafting in) Manchester City’s goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon, while Hamerstergod was eyeing up Cardiff’s Marshall.

Boruc’s injury will have come as a blow to many a “casual manager” – those who put their trust in the bandwagons and adopt a fire-and-forget policy. On that front, HVT had a go at creating the the definitive ‘casual’ team. True to form this season, it turns out that he created a pretty impressive lineup.

And finally, ahead of Gameweek 14, Konig Luther provided this interesting post about how many points are needed to reach key ranking achievements. Giggs Boson was among those pleased to discover he was just a whisker away from the top 10,000 at the time.

Community Leagues & Cups

Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing League has lost another 62 managers across Gameweeks 13 and 14, leaving 488 to continue on.

Evs, Bootsy, Athletico Timbo, Crouch Potato, Chazza and Koneheads currently lead In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues.  Meanwhile, his cup competition has reached the quarter finals stage with La Roja among the community names still involved.

In Fifa Las Vegas’s ‘Championship style’ competitionSomebody’s Gonna Get Lit Up and Champ are currently embroiled in the final, which is taking place over Gameweek 15.

A reminder that the FFS Paddy Power Cup Third Round was played out over this weekned’s matches – we’ll bring you a full run-down of the results and the draw for the next round on Tuesday.

    2ft, I'm Considering
    Suarez-> Lukaku and
    Januzaj -> Hazard

My reasoning: Suarez has tot che mci in the next four. I was at the game on Saturday and sterling and Henderson just can't provide him good service, it puts a lot of pressure on Coutinho.

Is there anyone who doesn't think I'm mad?

It's undeniable form but he's not playing Norwich for a while now. I can see Lukaku matching this against Fulham or Sunderland too perhaps...

Good point though Naster, will think it through.

you will lose a lot of value, suarez is only going to get more expensive. only transfer him out if you plan to not get him in again... which is just not going to happen.

Liverpool's goals come from him and him only really. can't ignore him

It's true our goals come from him but I can see us faltering in attack against the big teams in the next four. In which case how quickly will his price drop (remy and lukaku have great fixtures in that time).

Lads, my team is this: for GW16
    Howard
    Terry Burner Tomkins
    Morrison Oscar Ozil Ramsey
    Suarez Lukaku (C) Aguero

    Subs: Gazzaniga, Koscielny, Shaw, Brady

Got 2 FTs, thinking this week I'll put Chester in for Shaw, then after Terry > Zab and Tomkins >Debuchy. Currently got nothing in the bank, and after defensive changes wanna sell either/or Brady/Morrison. Any tips?

Wow, just noticed Migs fixtures. Mignolet and Suarez are almost part of the furniture in my team and I didn't think to monitor their fixtures!

Is anyone NOT doing Migs > Howard? Not sure it's worth -4 as Migs will get his fair share of save points, but it is tempting.

I know, that was my initial reaction, but I reckon the points over the next 4 will be as follows:

        Migs 10-14
        Howard 16-20

With price changes taken into account, I reckon it could pay off

But why even look at the next 4? You can get Howard for free next gw. So will Howard outscore Mignolet by more than 4 this gameweek? Highly unlikely.
Granted it would mean having Howard and making a different possibly more profitable free transfer next gw but it gets messy trying to calculate that shit 😉

Well many people already plan to use their FTs in others ways, but as I wrote below, I'll probably do it for free in 2 weeks. It's a bit annoying that I'll lose at least 0.2 between now and then though, but probably not worth the hit!

Its not just a couple of tasty games it's a long run of good fixtures for the best defence in the prem..Migs>Howard for a hit if need be.

    Morning gents,

At a loss of how to use my 2ft's this week...

    Krul (Davis)

    Merts - GJohnson - Evans - Baker - Moxey

    Hazard - Gerrard - Ramsey - Brady - Ravel

    Suarez - Aguero - Remy

Was all set on getting in Rooney this week, soemthing like

    A. Remy + Gerrard > Rooney + Fer

    but now thinking that

    B. Remy + GJohnson > Lukaku + Jags - and bench Gerrard for a week

    Looks better (fixtures)

Evans makes sense to be fair - good price, good fixtures. It can't get any worse, or at least I thought that after the Everton match! That said, in 92/93 they were in a similar position at this stage of the season and went on to win it... all we need to do is sign the second coming of Cantona!

Haha, you're right, I just wish Moyes would also get realistic and stop deluding himself! There's no chance of a top 3 finish this season. A decent signing in Jan and a big clear out and rebuild over the summer would be good.

Either of those players would be great signings, just hope United don't slip any further and stop being able to attract big names!

Re: Sess, above, I did a reply fail. Anyway, he's frustrating. As long as he's on the pitch and getting into one on ones, he'll eventually convert, though. Just wondering if he's frustrating Clarke to the point where he's playing his way out of the first XI.

Agree, all things point to Redmond. He has the best fixtures of that group. And he is nailed on in the short term.
If Stephen Ireland can lose some weight, get fit and establish himself, he could be a steal in the second half of the season. It is a huge 'if' though, he has been in the wilderness for an awful long time.
It's nice to have so many genuine options in the midfield budget bracket.

    chico - gabbi - coleman - santon - chester
    haz - yaya - rambo - sess - barkley
    kun - luis - lukaku

Ivanovic Jedinak to Silva Merte next week or
Ivanovic Jedinak to Silva Burner next week (2m to upgrade whoever later on)

    Yay?

Or just keep Gerrard and hope he returns next week?
Fonte will play if he's out.
