Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Fifth Round Draw

We’ve reached the Fifth Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, this weekend, and are on the lookout for a new face to lift the silverware after our two remaining previous winners, Goonerdave and sleepingmaster, were both eliminated:

Pryston North End FC and Albany City were the respective victors and will now take on Team Hayemaker and ec3dm over Gameweek 17. We’re also keeping an eye on Hillbillypete – having knocked out current champion Wild Rover, he continue to remain in with a shout of the silverware and is up against site regular The Sarjeant in the Fifth Round.

Our site moderator, Applebonkers, is also in the hat and is something of an underdog for the weekend, with his opponent BJ sitting just inside the top 5,000. Tony Hibbert’s Love Child is the top-ranked manager in this week’s draw – sitting in 570th overall, he now squares up to Nepalock.

Looking at some of the site regulars, Malcolm Tucker for England manager is up against 11 Men in Flight, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad will pit his wits against TOMDN, while 2ndMan is up against mickey30101985 for a place in the last 32.

As always, we name-check the highest scoring manager from the previous round. Both Michu at De Gea Bar and Andy Paps achieved this accolade, with 97 points apiece, and will now go head-to-head with Son of Rambo and dino_dem next time around.

The lowest-scoring team to advance to the Fifth Round belongs to Mr T. He’ll be hoping to improve upon a score of 63 points as he prepares to do battle with heco87.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Fifth Round details.

Once again, good luck to those still in with a shout.

Lads, anyone remember the name of that game that many played here maybe a year ago?
It's like air hockey but it's football.

Just reading through the Copa Libertadores rules(as you do) and it's somewhat different from the Champions League

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_Libertadores

    - Final played in two legs
    - In the semi-final, two teams from the same confederation MUST play one another
    - No draws involved, teams seeded depending on Group Stage record; Seed 1 vs 16; 2 vs 15 etc.
    - Didn't use the Away goal till recently

Anyone reckon some of these rules could spice the UCL?

Would mean the weaker teams would always play against the stronger teams in the knockout stages so not as many big team clashes.

Yeah, both of you could be right. He's in-form enough to start, but only the first hour or so, for a team that's just not free-scoring enough to make him a good diff.

That said, how free-scoring are Lukaku, Remy, Berbo, Soldado...? Plus I'm almost 2m better off with Hooper..

Thanks tho – food for thought 😎

Will Bony start? One of the season's let-downs for me. Palace are on the rise and Chamakh is on my shortlist, but he's on 4 yellows.

Nah, I'm more likely to look at Gouffran, or even Rodriguez, despite fixtures.

The Chelsea squad including Mata, Hazard, Oscar, Schurrle, Willian, De Bruyne, Moses in attacking midfield?

With 4 solid strikers: Admittedly Torres is forever out of form, and Etoo is a bit past it, but Ba was scoring plenty in the first half of last season for Newcastle, and the 4th one Lukaku is on course for consecutive 15+ goal seasons (but irresponsibly loaned out)

Terry, Luiz, Cahill, Ivanovic at CB
2 solid RBs in Ivan and Azpi
One of the best LBs in the league (but with only Bertrand as backup)
One of the best keepers in the league and the world over the last 5 seasons.

Engine room including Lampard, Ramires, Van Ginkel and former worldbeater Essien. (plus assorted others all solidly average - Romeu, Mikel etc)

Chelsea have one of the best squads in the league all round, with some solid youngsters too (all loaned out)

They need a CM and a striker - why not Chalobah and Lukaku?
Where do they need 4 or 5 additions?

Fair point. The most likely transfer next week would probably be a keeper or defensive change, which is by no means desperate, so I might well save it. Also depends on prices this week though - Shelvey is going down and Silva up, but quite slowly. Cheers.

Trading Giroud this week and Sess next week.

If I bring in Negredo I only have 7.1 next week.
If I trade out GJ for Williamson next week I have 8.4 to replace Sess (-4).

Giroud is bound to drop again soon and I've lost my profit if he does (bought at 8.5, sell at 8.9 - 0.2 profit)

Its for my draft league team. Just looking into options as I need to make one transfer for gameweeks 17/18.Bony isn't really starting but I have no other striker option. If I dont go A then I'm exposing Migs to City away in gameweek 18. What it boils down to is, who will get more points over gameweeks 17/18.

Yeah I play in draft league as well but I'm a bit confused. Which strikers do you have already? Are you bringing 3 in or deciding which 3 to play?
Fwiw I'd take Bony over all the others for long term potential. Short term he'd be last on the list.

Thanks for your help by the way, I have Hooper, Crouch and Bony with my team looking like this. I need to pick a team to cover gameweeks 17/18 as we are treating them as a double week.

            Mignolet
            Evans Coleman Shawcross (Terry/Rat)
            Walcott Mirallas Redmond (Hernandez/Schurrle/Ravel)
            Hooper Crouch (Bony/Deulofeu)

Santon is in another team unfortunately. I'm allowed one transfer and just not sure who to play!

Ah right I'm with ya. Well it depends on your tactic. Getting Chamakh in for Bony is fairly likely to benefit you short term. Long term I think there's more points in keeping Bony. Unless you think you could make the trade and still be able to get Bony back but surely someone else would snap him up, no?
Debuchey and Collocini are both nailed on. Debu probably has a few assists in him but Colo gets the odd goal.

That's nice for a draft team. Small league? You should see the shyte me and GloriaK below have to work with! Chamakh is my star striker atm 😆

Im going into the last two games and Im sitting top with 2 points. My rival has Suarez and Negredo though so Im pretty screwed I think! Both Debuchy and Collocini have been taken unfortunately. Think I will line up with this.

                Mignolet
                Terry Evans Coleman Shawcross (Rat)
                Walcott Mirallas(c) Redmond (Hernandez/Ravel/Amalfitano/Schurrle)
                Crouch Hooper Bony

                Do...A) Mignolet->Krul or B) Bony->Chamakh?

                Good luck to you both!

2 games left, well that's a different story. I'd do Bony > Chamakh then. Clean sheets are unpredictable and Migs at least has 1 very good fixture.
Good luck to you too. Let us know if you pull off the upset victory.

On the knee cap so you'd imagine there'd be no internal damage, at least not from the cut anyway. Doesn't have to fully heal to play footy.

a cut on the knee would need to fully heal before playin or it would re-open.....rooney had that cut on his head and was out for a while....3 weeks if i remember correctly......and after that had to wear that head band to protect it

If a cut re-opening is the concern than yes you would have to let it fully heal. I would have thought as long as it's relatively healed he'd just bandage it up. If you're not doing any real damage by playing who cares about a bit of blood?

Had him since week 1, now I'm just sad that he's the defensive equivalent of Ramsey. He used to make me feel special.

Can anyone explain the logic of price protection? Who cares if or why people want to sell a player? If the reason is that too many people want to ship an injured player, then wouldn't that same logic be applicable the other way? If a guy goes off for 15+ points or 10+ points two weeks in a row, then it should take 150% for him to rise.

    Maddening looking at RVP's price.

I think it creates a tactical reason to hold a player through injury sometimes. If you have a lot of increased value tied up in him and want him long term than protection is what makes holding him a viable option. Otherwise everybody would sell and buy him back again cheap. I like it

Good point, hadn't really though of it from the holder's perspective, more so the buyer's. Just want RVP to drop to around 13 or so.

In other news, just watching the highlights and Liverpool could have won 10-0 pretty easily if my Coutinho had done anything.

Coutinho was unlucky to hit the bar, but should've done much better with most of his other shots, all either tame or wide.

And that dive/trip in the area was a little embarrassing

I also have Coutinho but didn't think he was unlucky with the one that hit the bar - I think he mishits it straight down into the ground and it bounces up on to the bar
