Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Fifth Round Draw

We’ve reached the Fifth Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, this weekend, and are on the lookout for a new face to lift the silverware after our two remaining previous winners, Goonerdave and sleepingmaster, were both eliminated:

Pryston North End FC and Albany City were the respective victors and will now take on Team Hayemaker and ec3dm over Gameweek 17. We’re also keeping an eye on Hillbillypete – having knocked out current champion Wild Rover, he continue to remain in with a shout of the silverware and is up against site regular The Sarjeant in the Fifth Round.

Our site moderator, Applebonkers, is also in the hat and is something of an underdog for the weekend, with his opponent BJ sitting just inside the top 5,000. Tony Hibbert’s Love Child is the top-ranked manager in this week’s draw – sitting in 570th overall, he now squares up to Nepalock.

Looking at some of the site regulars, Malcolm Tucker for England manager is up against 11 Men in Flight, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad will pit his wits against TOMDN, while 2ndMan is up against mickey30101985 for a place in the last 32.

As always, we name-check the highest scoring manager from the previous round. Both Michu at De Gea Bar and Andy Paps achieved this accolade, with 97 points apiece, and will now go head-to-head with Son of Rambo and dino_dem next time around.

The lowest-scoring team to advance to the Fifth Round belongs to Mr T. He’ll be hoping to improve upon a score of 63 points as he prepares to do battle with heco87.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Fifth Round details.

Once again, good luck to those still in with a shout.

It could be Boyata, Clichy or Milner that fills in there. So not necessarily...

Would be perfect if it's Clichy to RB. I'm already eyeing up transfers to get Kolarov in for the GW19 Palace home game 🙂

I just realised that my Selling value is 105.2!!..shocking.. I am not going to ask yours, but i could do it a little differently. Whats your selling value excluding the three most common and nailed on players of your team..That is Ramsey,Lukaku and Suarez. If you are a non Ramsey owner just exclude Lukaku and Suarez.

I own Ramsey and i have a selling value of 77.5 excluding him. Including him i would have a selling value of 85.

Just wanted to know the actual WC potential of everybody.

Why get rid of Ramsey? He's still getting points. I don't get it. People wanna get Walcott in for Ramsey when Walcott's more money and has played less and hasn't done as well. You could apply the same in some areas to Mirallas.

I get this game is somewhat about prediction (well, quite a lot about predicton) but I think it's a risk ditching someone who has been consistent and cheaper for someone who hasn't but could be, but that's teh game I guess.

I'd agree but the positions Ramsey is still getting into suggests he is well worth keeping. That gravy train ain't stopping!

I was always going to get Walcott this week (for Nasri) but with Aguero injured I managed to retain Nasri and upgrade to Theo from Amalfitano.

I paid pts for Walcott but payback should be swift as his schedule is as enticing as brandy butter on Xmas pudding 🙂

Yes, Rooney too. He's already gone up twice. Negredo goes up for the second time tonight and it's only Wednesday.

Aguero has already dropped once and he'll drop again tonight. He looks likely to drop 3 times in one GW. Is that a first? I can't remember anyone being gotten rid of at such a rate of knots!

Rate my team too gone bonkers - it predicts 8.42 points for Suarez this week.... Never ever even in rvp's peak form, have I seen a player over 7, and Suarez is now at 8.5.

Anyone who wants to make huge strides forward this week should captain Rooney and pray extremely hard...

The Professor did a major update over the weekend which we rolled out last night. He too has never seen such numbers from a player, not even from RvP in his pomp. There's no error though, based on Fantasy and market data, this is what the model is projecting at his current rates.

I know there is no error - a player averaging more than 10 ppg and playing Cardiff at home is very likely to even exceed this score - it's just a testimony to the amazing heights of form Suarez is in - right now he is the most in form striker in the world and there seems to be no stopping him.

I believe that Silva can deliver constantly 5 pts each GW. Very slight chance for 10 points but also very slight chance for 2 points. On the other hand Walcott can deliver 15 points next week and then 2 points for 4 consecutive weeks. (Look at the season start) Hence I vote up for consistency: Silva

Having already brought Rooney in this week, I just checked the RMT tool, which suggests I should only captain him once in the next 22 weeks 😯

The RMT tool is Everton biased.... Not sure why, but Baines lukaku etc. score extremely high - which means lukaku "steals" a few captain spots from Rooney.

Any news about Zabaleta? the FF site seems to be a tad optimistic rating him at 75%!!

If he is out, who do you think will play RB over Xmas? Does it open the door for Kolarov at all if Clichy goes RB?

      according to the guardian:
"the downside for Pellegrini was the sight of Pablo Zabaleta leaving the pitch with a suspected pulled hamstring in the early moments. With Micah Richards already sidelined with the same problem, City will go into the festive programme without an orthodox right-back"

My midfield is now Hazard, Walcott, Nasri, Ramsey and Redmond 🙂

The latter is never going to get picked so am looking to downgrade in GW19 to generate some cash for defence. Options are slim as kind of hard to downgrade from a 4.6!

Is Pozuela nailed on enough to consider in case of rotation? Kind of like the look of Meyler too but will Hull continue with that formation?

Would go for Wally personally over Oscar.

Also, be careful with Baker - Vlaar is due back soon and could take his spot, he was shaky vs United. Consider Burner at Cardiff, or a Palace dude.

I think people are missing the point about Zabaleta's injury

    1. City aren't really doing cleanies, and I'm sure will do less so without him
    2. Zaba is one if the keys to the City attack, without him AND Aguero I can see a slow down for sure
    3. All this Kolarov talk is silly. He is a rubbish defender who had only played due to an injury to Clichy,
    4. The only person who could realistically play "a bit like Zaba" is Richards (injured) or Milner, who would be -oop

      1. MCI is the top defensive side this year when we look at their opponents ability to produce shots on goal.
      - Opponents have averaged a league low 9.9spg against City
-To put this into context, defensive darlings Everton, have given up almost 2 more shots per game thus far

      2. Zabaleta isn't a 'key' to City's attack. He is actually relatively small part of what City do offensively even when compared to his defensive counterparts.
      - Zabaleta has 'only' managed 65 touches in the Final 3rd vs. Clichy's 73 & Kolarov's 88; each of who have logged far fewer minutes

      3. Kolarov has managed to produce 7 chances & execute 20 crosses; far more than Zabaleta's 5 chances created & 7 crosses.

      4. Hey, at least you wrote something we can actually agree on.

Do a lil research next time & don't let the "eye ball test" fool you sir...

Does Shelvey -> Fer for a hit make sense?

    Do I;
    1) Keep cool, bench Shelvey, play Ward and Mert in defense, no hits. (433)
    2) Take a hit, bench one of Ward or Mert and play 343.

    At 2 atm.

        If not, why bench him?

Nope, just crap. Terrible fixtures + I've got Coleman and Distin, so I won't play him anyhow.

        Good. I meant I'm leaning towards 1, not 2.

    Hey guys.

On my recent post, I asked which transfers I should make. People were telling me to go E (Aguero to Lukaku and Barkley to Walcott) (-4pt)

Nevertheless, I've decided to go with option C. Which is, Aguero ---> Lukaku and Lallana ---> Hazard. (-4pt)

I know I'll be bringing Hazard in, but who do I sell to get him in? Shelvey or Lallana? Right now, it looks like I'll have to sell Lallana. Shelvey has better stats and has played less minutes, Shelvey's more of a differential, and Lallana was on form at the start of the season, but Shelvey is on form now.

    Thoughts?

Neither Shelvey nor Lallana have especially good fxtures in the next 6

If you need cash in a week or two's time, I'd sell the more expensive of the two.

Are you keeping the other one (Shelvey or Lallana) to end of season or Jan wildcard.
I'd hold on to Lallana (Did you buy him cheap?)
Shelvey will play more withdrawn role with Michu and Pozuela there.
Lallana is different class. Saints to play themselves back into form after a run of difficult fixtures.
Maybe get rid of both in Jan wild card though

I'll probably be selling Shelvey in the Jan wildcard, and I bought Lallana when he was at 7.0. He just seems to be playing badly lately, FPL wise. And I feel it's safer to get rid of Lallana over Shelvey at the moment, as Shelvey is cheaper and performing better.

Already done Aguero to Lukaku with my free transfer, but would be great to get some opinions on the final spot:

A - Play Clyne (poss inj)
    B - Play JWP
    C - Play Rav Morrison
    D - Take -8 hit, Terry + Rav ------> Walcott + Distin
