Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Seventh Round Draw

We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Seventh Round details.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

Looking at getting either Sterling or Nolan into midfield.

Is Sterling likely to be dropped after this wk end if Sturridge is fit from GW 21 on Jan 12th

Nolan is a good one week punt, and possibly longer with those fixtures.

He still outscored Hazard last week 😉

This thought just crossed my mind after chatting with a few of ye good folks here. I have seen none, zip, zero of that crappy childish abuse you see on all other football sites of 'Your team sucks and our's is the best' mentality.

It really is a welcome relief from other sites. Congrats to the mods and indeed to the posters here on keeping it (relatively) classy.

    Morning lads.

Team not in best shape, no money in the bank, and my transfer used to bring in Theo for Ozil.

    Here's the lineup...

    DDG
    Evans, Clyne, Coleman
    OZIL, Hazard, Walcott, Cabaye
    Rooney, Suarez, Lukakaaaa

    Bench. Chester, Burner and Cabral.

I was holding onto Ozil hoping he would make the game, but that now seems unlikely.

    Would you ....

A). Stick, hope Ozil plays and if not have a poor defender off the bench?

    Or

    B) take a hit for Ozil for either Yaya, Nasri or Navas?

Unless you plan to WC next week, I think the only players that warrant losing Ozil for are Walcott and Hazard, and you already have both.

I think there is a small chance Ozil plays tomorrow, so I'd probably stick and hope Chester can perform a miracle off the bench. I was planning to bring Ozil in this week!

I know you hate hits, but I can't see any of your defenders coming on and scoring more than a point.

However, I don't see City putting more than 2 past Swans at the Liberty, esp with Silva out, so a tough one alright.

Seeing as though you are pushing to get into the top 1k, I would gamble on Yaya doing nowt and get in Navas.

        How sustainable so Navas though?

He's seems to be used off the bench quite a bit.

Haven't checked Navas playing time. If you want to keep for more thank a week go for Nasri. Ozil might be out for a couple of weeks, there's a gap I know until the next GW, but you can hope Nasri plays a blinder and ride the price rises as Ozil's value continues to drop.

      Morning Evs.

I don't think Ozil will play. His shoulder injury will put him out through the FA Cup game, mysteriously lasting about half as long as a winter break in Germany 😉

I'd suggest B as I'm not sure you'll end up with more than 1 pt from anyone you have on the bench.

As for which one, well you sold Nasri so perhaps you ought to follow the old adage of managers and never return to the same place twice!

I know I'm clutching at straws with Ozil, and the cynic in me thinks he's rested and not injured.

I'm toying with b, it's the hit for a player I want to keep.

        Grrr...

        If I had cash I would consider a Cabral upgrade, but I don't 🙁

This game is so fickle sometimes that even this donkey can have this much interest after 1 goal. Surely he's a shoe in for a rest next GW anyways?

Great fixture, and upcoming WC will see a few one-week punts. Risky, as you say, regarding the rest but Wenger seems to be resigned to playing him - will probably get a rest for the FA Cup game (even though Arsene will definitely want to win that one).

He has been terrible recently though, However, his stats are pretty damn good when he has Walcott playing as Walcott pulls defences all over the place giving Giroud that bit more space. Wally is back, fixtures are good, cheap price in a good team. Could be a good time to have him again

Wenger: "We have a team that is a bit short, lightweight and more focused on mobility and technical movement, so he [Giroud] is the one guy who has that strength and structure for us," Wenger said. "That fighting up front is very important for us.
"I think about giving him a rest, but he is important for the team. He has these physical qualities and that is, of course, very important for the team."

I read this the other day champ but Giroud has played nearly 30 games already this season and needs a rest, He gave him the day off against Hull earlier in the season and could still easily choose a home tie against Cardiff to do the same.

I done it last week and don't have a clue if he will or wont tbh but I am trying to think what I would do in Wengers shoes. With Giroud, I wouldn't start him but would have him on the bench "just in case". That's how I try to work these situations out.

Negredo could just do what the arsenal boys could do or even better.
Last time out with the swans at home got a goal played 62min w/o silva while aguero blanks.

He talks about how random people in the street would point at him saying look at that guy, he doesn't own Baines.

Few months later Baines was in nobody's team.

Will cost 0.2+ more by then. Perhaps the way to go.

Kinda irrelevant with the WC coming up that he would be a season keeper but his fixtures are good for this month

Rooney missing another week would be lovely for me. I don't have him and he'll surely drop a good bit more then

"Distin expected to be fit"... wasn't aware he was a doubt...

I'm somehow tempted to do Distin > Evans and Morrison > Sterling, but I need talking out of it! This Distin news isn't helping, and the lack of clarity around Morrison is making me think that Kim and Burner (ars) being my only reliable backup for Silva and the rest of my team is unsettling.

Distin > Evans is pretty sideways, and the Morrison > Sterling hit will probably even itself out, but at least I'll be ahead of the game in terms of price rises

would say sterling in for a hit one week from sturridge's return is unlikely to be worth it

Agree not Sterling for a hit, but I still think he could get enough game time during January to justify a free trade in

Hi tinker! saw your reply got a bench this GW of Ravel, Berba & Silva.

What if Evans concedes (Spurs scoring well)? Your point hit will break even only if Sterling gets a goal and then some more

Lallana likely to rise again today? Silva's first drop won't affect me so I'm inclined to save the FT for another week and just play Whittingham.

    Team for this week

    Mannone
    Coleman / Mert / Debuchy
    Walcott / Cabaye / Nasri / Hazard
    Rooney / Negredo / Suarez

Bench: McGregor / Redmond / Vlaar / Burner

    1.7 in the bank

    A) Mannone > Szczesny
    B) Save transfer*

*Was planning Nasri > Silva but his suspension nixed that

So, as this week Silva will have a blank & then there is gap of 12 days, Silva is definitely gonna drop more?? I mean this week is justified as 9.3 m player on bench isn't a good sight. But after that ???
