Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 22

After back-to-back double Gameweeks it’s time to assess the usual info including Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 23.

Gameweek 20 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs West BromSaido Berahino
Aston Villa vs SwanseaJonathan de Guzman
Hull vs FulhamTom Huddlestone
Man City vs Crystal PalaceYannick Bolasie
Norwich vs Man UnitedNemanja Vidic
Cardiff vs SunderlandFraizer Campbell

Fulham vs West HamScott Parker
Liverpool vs HullLuis Suarez
Southampton vs ChelseaOscar
Stoke vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Sunderland vs Aston VillaGabriel Agbonlahor
West Brom vs NewcastleSaido Berahino
Man United vs TottenhamVlad Chiriches

Over the double Gameweek, four defenders, eleven midfielders and five forwards shared the awards. Eden Hazard picked up his seventh of the season and has now been awarded more MoTM awards than any other player, one more than Wayne Rooney and Curtis Davies. West Brom’s wonderkid Saido Berahino picked up the award twice over the two matches and comes in at only 5.9 million – for those opting for an expensive five in midfield, he looks a decent enabler.

Gameweek 20 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Hugo Lloris, Vito Mannone, David Marshall, David Stockdale and Jussi Jaaskelainen were the top shot-stoppers. Jaaskelainen has now joined Brad Guzan and Simon Mignolet at the top of the bonus points table with 10 additional points.

In defence, a total of 13 players gathered bonus, eight for tackles and eight for passes completed – the three players who managed to achieve both were Kyle Naughton, Daniel Agger and Vincent Kompany. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward is still the top defender for bonus points overall with an additional 18 points.

In midfield, 30 players earned bonus points – 19 for tackling and 20 for passes. Several players managed to gather both over the two games but a special mention for Cheick Tiote and Steve Sidwell, who both gained six additional points each after a combination of passing and tackling. Liverpool’s Lucas is now the top bonus-point darling in midfield, with 30 additional points earned.

Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle will have impressed his manager Jose Mourinho as he was the only forward to earn bonus for four completed tackles, earning himself an additional two points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.821.16%
OzilArsenal8.89.35%
GiroudArsenal8.55.63%
JagielkaEverton6.95.13%
LovrenSouthampton5.23.76%

Injury reigns supreme as all of the players mentioned above have found themselves hampered by the festive schedule. Dejan Lovren returned to the first team last week after a bout of illness, whilst Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are both in contention for Arsenal’s trip to Villa on Monday.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
HazardChelsea8.86.64%
LallanaSouthampton5.95.73%
ColemanEverton6.53.90%
NegredoMan City8.63.75%
ToureMan City8.63.64%

The top two transfers in, Eden Hazard and Adam Lallana, look like direct replacements for Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey as they come in at virtually the same price. Yaya Toure and Seamus Coleman’s form has been too good to ignore and it’s easy to why they are amongst the top five in. Alvaro Negredo looks like something of a stop-gap whilst we await the return of Sergio Aguero.

Gameweek 22 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 22, there is an opportunity for three armband options if you choose to use a transfer for Monday night’s game.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (Crystal Palace at Home) → Luis Suarez (Stoke Away) → Mesut Ozil (Aston Villa Away)

For Saturday January 11, Romelu Lukaku is also an option as he plays at home to Norwich. For the fixtures on Sunday 12, we opt for a captain change to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez who squares up to Stoke at the Britannia. Alternatively, a Man City asset is an option.

Arsenal roll up to Villa Park on Monday the 13th and, with Aston Villa’s defence looking shaky in recent weeks, Ozil looks a good option for points – as an added bonus, Arsenal play at home to Fulham on Saturday 18, where again he looks an enticing option.

Look at your team for next week - If it's OK (and you think Rooney will be back) then play Sterling - but if you could do with Rooney out plus another transfer (and you don't plan on wildcarding) then a hit may be worth it.

he was getting tons of chances, just needs to find his feet again. his link up play was still good. plus maybe he was just exhausted/carrying that injury for a while..idk..it's a punt but I think it'll pay off..

Cheers! I always seem to mess up keeper rotation so I'm thinking at least this will cut the stress! I also think this is a year for defensive spending so I've bumped up the budget at the back. Only time will tell I guess 🙂

Hmmm so it looks like I won't bring in Kun right now since there's no chance he's back this week..already have Giroud so I think it's either Lukaku or Negredo..both have their pros and cons..

Lukaku: Pros - Norwich is worthless away; Cons - hit or miss, selfish mids
Negredo: Pros - Newcastle are threadbare, Silva in the side, on form; Cons - historically poor away form

3459 people have brought in Suarez today... Where were they all these days and how were they surviving without him?

pure speculation that a player who was 100% nailed may not be any more.
fuelled by factors such as hudson being named MOTM in the cup match with newcastle, their club captain (although i don't think this one holds any weight), their player of the year last season, and attribute wise arguably a better blend with caulker who is very similar to turner

It's not news, it's someone's occult reading from tea leaves which has spread like norovirus. Possible, but not probable.

Soo I was trying my best to save my WC but now with Rooney confirmed out along with Walcott and Cabaye, Baines doubts and a couple non playing subs the Fantasy gods have forced my hand.

Terrible TV but this is what've iv come up with:

    Marshall Mannone
    Kosc Clyne Chester Ward Olsson
    Ozil Eriksen Lallana Oscar Assaidi
    Negredo Suarez Lukaku

Enough in bank for Negredo - > Aguero.
The WC feels a bit mehhh... But What do you guys think? Allright?

    Thanks

Is Eriksen's place at any risk with all these Spurs midfielders coming back? Lallana is more nailed on and that is swaying me slightly but I believe Eriksen to be the better pick in the better team if he plays every game...

I really don't think so. Eriksen is far superior to those returning players. If he lost his place in the side, I would dub Sherwood to be the biggest moron in North London.

I can never be sure about Sherwood, could he possibly play Lennon and Townsend or even Siggy or Holtby on the wings lol and rest Eriksen at random times?

Rooney out. Cabaye back in training, though I heard some chatter about still might not be risked all out (maybe some contract/transfer stuff in there and no real injury at all), and Yaya is most likely fine, but does have an ankle knock and might be rested or riding the pine, since City have Cardiff at home. Knowing Yaya, though, chances are pretty good he'll start. He is a bit of a machine.

Why are folks opting for Lallana over Erikson ?

Erik has the better recent stats, the easier next fixture, is cheaper, and loving life under Sherwood.

Lallana will play deeper with the strikers all back.

Is this choice purely a personal punt or am I missing something ?

Eriksen not necessarily nailed on. Sandro and Paulinho could easily be ahead in pecking order and Eriksen also plays LM in a flat 4-4-2 and could lose that spot to Townsend when back.

Also Osvaldo not back and Lambert injured.

Lallana has been doing it consistently..Eriksen has done it twice.

I think it's just so tight between them and that you could argue either way. Lallana is on some dandy form and hard to ignore. My ML rival has certainly been getting a lot out of him! I don't have him. Just offering some insight into why others like his look.

    Boruc / Kelvin Davis
    Gabbidon / Koscielny / Chester / Turner / Coleman
Hazard / Gerrard / Yaya Touré / Oscar / Ramsey
    Agüero / Chamakh / Suárez

    So tempting to click confirm.
