Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 22

After back-to-back double Gameweeks it’s time to assess the usual info including Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 23.

Gameweek 20 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
West Ham vs West BromSaido Berahino
Aston Villa vs SwanseaJonathan de Guzman
Hull vs FulhamTom Huddlestone
Man City vs Crystal PalaceYannick Bolasie

Fulham vs West HamScott Parker
Liverpool vs HullLuis Suarez
Southampton vs ChelseaOscar
Stoke vs EvertonLeighton Baines
Sunderland vs Aston VillaGabriel Agbonlahor
West Brom vs NewcastleSaido Berahino
Man United vs TottenhamVlad Chiriches

Over the double Gameweek, four defenders, eleven midfielders and five forwards shared the awards. Eden Hazard picked up his seventh of the season and has now been awarded more MoTM awards than any other player, one more than Wayne Rooney and Curtis Davies. West Brom’s wonderkid Saido Berahino picked up the award twice over the two matches and comes in at only 5.9 million – for those opting for an expensive five in midfield, he looks a decent enabler.

Gameweek 20 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Hugo Lloris, Vito Mannone, David Marshall, David Stockdale and Jussi Jaaskelainen were the top shot-stoppers. Jaaskelainen has now joined Brad Guzan and Simon Mignolet at the top of the bonus points table with 10 additional points.

In defence, a total of 13 players gathered bonus, eight for tackles and eight for passes completed – the three players who managed to achieve both were Kyle Naughton, Daniel Agger and Vincent Kompany. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward is still the top defender for bonus points overall with an additional 18 points.

In midfield, 30 players earned bonus points – 19 for tackling and 20 for passes. Several players managed to gather both over the two games but a special mention for Cheick Tiote and Steve Sidwell, who both gained six additional points each after a combination of passing and tackling. Liverpool’s Lucas is now the top bonus-point darling in midfield, with 30 additional points earned.

Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle will have impressed his manager Jose Mourinho as he was the only forward to earn bonus for four completed tackles, earning himself an additional two points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.821.16%
OzilArsenal8.89.35%
GiroudArsenal8.55.63%
JagielkaEverton6.95.13%
LovrenSouthampton5.23.76%

Injury reigns supreme as all of the players mentioned above have found themselves hampered by the festive schedule. Dejan Lovren returned to the first team last week after a bout of illness, whilst Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are both in contention for Arsenal’s trip to Villa on Monday.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
HazardChelsea8.86.64%
LallanaSouthampton5.95.73%
ColemanEverton6.53.90%
NegredoMan City8.63.75%
ToureMan City8.63.64%

The top two transfers in, Eden Hazard and Adam Lallana, look like direct replacements for Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey as they come in at virtually the same price. Yaya Toure and Seamus Coleman’s form has been too good to ignore and it’s easy to why they are amongst the top five in. Alvaro Negredo looks like something of a stop-gap whilst we await the return of Sergio Aguero.

Gameweek 22 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 22, there is an opportunity for three armband options if you choose to use a transfer for Monday night’s game.

Our Strategy:
Emmanuel Adebayor (Crystal Palace at Home) → Luis Suarez (Stoke Away) → Mesut Ozil (Aston Villa Away)

For Saturday January 11, Romelu Lukaku is also an option as he plays at home to Norwich. For the fixtures on Sunday 12, we opt for a captain change to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez who squares up to Stoke at the Britannia. Alternatively, a Man City asset is an option.

Arsenal roll up to Villa Park on Monday the 13th and, with Aston Villa’s defence looking shaky in recent weeks, Ozil looks a good option for points – as an added bonus, Arsenal play at home to Fulham on Saturday 18, where again he looks an enticing option.

Think I'm set on my WC team.. What do you guys think?

    Boruc - Davis
    Kos - Azpi - Burner - Bardsley - Chester
    Hazard - Ozil - Silva - Lallana - BJohnson
    Suarez - Giroud - Ade

    2.2 in the bank..

Not quite enough cash for a straight Aguero swap but enough to be able to do it with 1 other mid/forward downgrade..

Yea I'm worried with Burner.. It's just that he rotates well with Bardsley, who I do want to keep..

Not keen on spending as much as 4.9 on my 5th mid.. As long as they're getting me 2-3 points every game that's fine, I've had Jedinak all season up to now.. Johnson seems to add a slight attacking chance for only 0.1 more so I've gone him.

Still have both WCs but rather wait till the end of the transfer window and the end of the season for DGWs. I don't mind a 4 point hit to get rid of them two tbh. Adebayor or Soldado though? No idea. I still reckon eventually Soldado will bang them in for fun.

I think Soldado could be a great differential. Really good time to plump for a differential as you can wildcard him out in a couple of weeks if it doesn't work. Another option is Welbeck.

Trouble is for Rooney owners who owned Walcott and had to use their 1FT. Is that is there a player this week in incredible form - in an in form team - with a great fixture - who stands out - who is worth - 4?

For instance, there just isn't an Aguero vs. Norwich this week and I'll never ever forget not taking the - 4 to get him in for that game. I thought about that all week and didnt do it. That game was just to good to not have him, I kept my 4 points......whilst he exploded in my face.

I mean you'd think Lukaku this week, but he's got a reputation of not delivering in games where you think he would. MAYBE Negredo. But its not like Newcastle are hopeless and wont compete. It might just be worth going absolutely wild and taking an inspired short term punt on someone like Berbatov or Bony, if it works, great, if not, you can get the WC out and mend that and any other holes in your team.

Looks like Mannone's place is safe as Poyet is looking for a back up and not to replace the Sunderland keeper.

I couldn't see a replacement anyway tbh, but hopefully that clears it up a bit.

Risky keeping Ben Tuner when on a wildcard? ....it's either him or just go with the gossip and take Hudson! :/

wouldn't take hudson! i'd stick if i had turner, just be aware the risk has gone from 0% pre-solskjaer to more than 0% now.
factors like this do play into the late wildcarder hands though

I think I am going to go with Lukaku instead of Adebayor or Negredo.

I just think that he is more likely to get a double figure haul this GW.

Maybe 2014 will be better for him, he's not been great for a while for a whole game. I think if i take him out he'll go mental.

Both are good, but I think I would likely lean towards Giroud with those fixtures and those playmakers behind him.

Giroud out of those. Would look at getting bony in a couple of weeks though

Both are good. I'd usually say Lukaku, but based on fixtures, I think it's Giroud.

See I could keep Lukaku for Norwich then switch to Giroud next week

But don't really like playing a wildcard with a transfer already planned

    Guys,
On a wildcard, pick a defence, Team A or Team B
    Midfield and attack are sorted.

    Team A
    Mannone(Sun)
    Koscielny(Ars), Gabbidon(Cry), Coleman(Eve), Olsson(Nor), Turner(Car)

    Team B
    Szczesny(Ars)
    Koscielny(Ars), Gabbidon(Cry), Shaw(Sou), Bardsley(Sun), Williamson(New)

    Advise appreciated.

Whitts is fine (I have him on my team), but I think Redmond is a better, cheaper option. Keep Whitts around for this weekend, though.
