Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 23

With Gameweek 22 behind us, it’s time to reassess our Sky teams using the usual info, including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 23 and keeping one eye on Gameweek 24.

Gameweek 22 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Hull vs ChelseaEden Hazard
Cardiff vs West HamMark Noble
Everton vs NorwichGareth Barry
Fulham vs SunderlandAdam Johnson
Southampton vs West BromLuke Shaw
Tottenham vs Crystal PalaceNabil Bentaleb
Man United vs SwanseaAdnan Januzaj
Newcastle vs Man CityCheick Tiote
Stoke vs LiverpoolLuis Suarez
Aston Villa vs ArsenalJack Wilshere

Midfielders dominate once again, with eight of the recipients plying their trade in the centre of the park – Southampton defender Luke Shaw and Liverpool’s Luis Suarez were the two exceptions. The impressive Adnan Jauzaj (4.2m) and Nabil Bentaleb (4.1m) offer us some intriguing budget midfield options if they can maintain their current first-team places. The player who has caught the eye most often for the reporters is Eden Hazard who has eight MoTM so far in just 20 starts – an impressive 40% of his games.

Gameweek 22 Bonus Points

Three goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Joe Hart, Jack Butland and Adrian were the top shot-stoppers. Adrian managed seven saves which was the highest amount for the week to add to his clean sheet – at just 3.9m, if he can claim the number one jersey and West Ham’s performances improve, the Spaniard could offer exceptional value.

In defence, a total of eight players gathered bonus, six for tackles and four for passes completed. The two players to gather bonus for both were Swansea duo Angel Rangel and Jordi Amat – the bonus system often favors the Swans’ backline and, with an upturn in fixtures just around the corner, they could be worthy of consideration. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward is still the top defender for bonus points overall with an additional 18 points.

In midfield, 22 players earned bonus points – 11 for tackling and 13 for passes. Tottenham’s central-midfield partnership of Moussa Dembele and Nabil Bentaleb were the two to gather bonus for both – Bentaleb managed to complete a stunning 100 passes on his first Premier League start. Cheik Tiote has now joined Lucas on 30 bonus points at the top of the standings.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
NasriMan CIty6.312.76%
BarkleyEverton4.39.71%
RooneyMan United9.66.89%
ToureMan City8.65.89%
RamseyArsenal5.85.87%

Injuries have a major influence here, with all five of the above affected in recent weeks – Yaya Toure has been passed fit to start for City tomorrow, though the other four remain on the sidelines.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
NegredoMan City8.65.64%
LallanaSouthampton5.95.11%
JanuzajMan United4.24.82%
WilshereArsenal6.24.43%
GiroudArsenal8.54.35%

Alvaro Negredo’s good form sees him top the most transfers in but, with Sergio Aguero available this weekend, it remains to be seen if Fantasy managers continue to back the Spaniard. The other four players have all started to hit some consistent form in recent weeks and look set to offer good value considering their relatively low price-tags.

Gameweek 23 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 23 there is an opportunity for three captains if you choose to use a transfer for Monday night’s game.

Our Strategy:
Luis Suarez (Aston Villa at Home) → Eden Hazard (Man United at Home) → Romelu Lukaku(West Brom Away)

For Saturday 18 January, you could be brave and opt for an Arsenal asset such as Olivier Giroud or even take a chance on Sergio Aguero’s starting role for Man City’s clash at the Etihad but with Luis Suarez’ relentless form perhaps you would be a tad naive to ignore him (and braver than us), so we opt for the safety of the Uruguayan.

For the following day, we opt for a captain change to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard who plays at home to Man United – as mentioned above, Hazard is currently leading the MoTM awards and sits second in the overall points standings just behind Suarez.

Monday evening sees Everton roll up to The Hawthorns and, if you have a surplus of transfers at your disposal, it might be worth bringing in the big Belgian front man Romelu Lukaku as he returns to play against his old club West Brom.

As an afterthought, bringing in a Man United player for Lukaku might be worth considering after the Gameweek finishes in order to catch the champions’ fixture at home to Cardiff in Gameweek 24.

Negredo picking up owners at a faster rate than Aguero now (10k NTI) after small falls or losses all week...Maybe Aguero won't rise tonight after all.

yes but he's not talking about numbers as a whole, but the rate, Aguero's NTI has slowed in pace

        Negredo's has picked up

What I want to know is why is Aguero's target 55k, but Negredo's only 27k? Seems ridiculous.

Those were the price rise rules in 2011. Once a player had risen once they needed twice the amount to rise again. Maybe it's nostalgia week.

I think it's because people can't afford Aguero without taking points hits. Those on WC went nuts and got him already, leaving those using free transfers with the option of a -4 or -8 or Negredo.

Wouldnt it be great if there was certain allowance to transfer a specific player in, ie Aguero 750k and then one in one out etc

    And then anotherr drink...

plus it basically kills the idea of team value as an advantage. My ML leader has 2 million less than me and has re-invested all the money he got from selling Aguero. He'll have to not have him or sell a big hitter or 2 to get him. Having this available basically is a free pass

So a maximum ownership? That's a very interesting idea. Certainly add a new dimension to the game - but I'm sure it may make a few rage-quit if they can't get the player they want, which isn't really in the organisers' best interests. Good thought, though.

a, Spend -4 on doing Rooney>Aguero for tmrw, bearing in mind my sub JWP will likely score 1 or 2 points only, and having no Utd cover longterm..

b, Or on w/c next week downgrading Cabaye>Wilshere, then doing Clyne>Terry to give me a meaty attacking defence with two decent subs when needed?? Assuming Rooney fit soon...

alright so I have an interesting one to conduct on Saturday..here's my team:
    http://i.imgur.com/kFDK2zu.jpg

My whole pre-WC plan was to leave enough money to upgrade directly to Kun for a FT. Then Sturridge came along and for many concrete reasons I believed in giving him a punt, so now I'm 0.6m short of Giroud > Kun on a FT. I decided when I brought in Studge that I would just Ozil > Rambo (as many had planned) and then Giroud > Kun since we all thought he barely missed out on Villa!

So now I'm a bit torn on who to transfer out to create that 0.6m. Have been toying with Silva out as that seems the only reasonable option aside from maybe Kosc out (as I don't want to have any Arsenal defenders soon anyways).

after writing that out, it doesn't actually seem interesting at all..but thoughts gents? cheers! 😆

    Any short-term defenders within 5.0 you'd suggest?

Yep. Not really taking FPL as serious as last year. It seems to work, after a 'serious' start with close to no points I have, since taking a more casual approach, rocketed up the ranks 😉

don't get me wrong, with everyone fit and him nailed I'd love that rotation as I do rate West Ham's defence.

it's whether Adrian can keep that spot. 4.6 for a good few CS and save points is my kind of thing.

    Hey guys,

    my team currently looks like:
    Boruc ( davis)
    Coleman/Mert/Ward ( chester/burner)
    Oscar/Lallana/Gerrard/Ozil ( Januzaj)
    Suarez/Adebayor/Negredo

I have 1 FT and 1.5m ITB and thinking of swapping Oscar for a City midfielder. Which is better Silva or Navas? I am leaning towards Navas because he is 1m cheaper and feel he will produce points in the absence of Nasri? What are your thoughts on this?

Anyone think Mirallas and Nolan might see an upturn in returns?

Mirallas has some nice home games coming up and should be playing in the No. 10 role until injuries return.

Nolan has Andy Carroll back now, Big Andy's presence usually means Nolan's returns go up. Plus, West Ham's fixtures are superb.
