The Weekend Team News

Everton’s defensive problems continue as Seamus Coleman and Sylvain Distin remain on the sidelines for the visit of Villa. Arsene Wenger rules Jack Wilshere out Sunday’s clash with Palace. Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran are both still doubts for Newcastle, whilst Loic Remy loses his red card appeal. Rickie Lambert looks set to return for Southampton, though Gabby Agbonlahor is still a concern for Villa:

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere will miss the visit of Crystal Palace this weekend with an ongoing ankle injury, though hopes the England international will be available against Liverpool the week after. Wenger also conceded Aaron Ramsey will remain sidelined for four-to-six weeks after a thigh injury setback. Mathieu Flamini is suspended after his red card against Southampton, though Tomas Rosicky will return to the squad following surgery on his nose.

Everton’s defensive issues don’t look like abating this week. Roberto Martinez confirmed tomorrow’s game with Villa will come too soon for both Sylvain Distin and Seamus Coleman, whilst Antolin Alcaraz looks set to be out “for a while” with muscle fatigue. Though Martinez does expect the pair to be available for the game against Tottenham next weekend. Elsewhere, the Everton boss has confirmed that new recruit Lacina Traore is still 10-14 days away from recovering from a hamstring problem.

Paul Lambert has confirmed that Gabby Agbonlahor remains “touch and go” for the trip to Goodison Park, after a foot injury ruled him out of the Midlands derby in midweek. The forward will be assessed again but his manager has admitted the Toffees showdown may well be too soon.

Rickie Lambert has returned to full training ahead of Southampton’s trip to Fulham. Additionally, Mauricio Pochettino could be set to hand fit-again Victor Wanyama his first start since Gameweek 14 after he returned to the Saints squad in midweek.

Cardiff’s Mark Hudson looks likely to miss out with the hamstring problem that forced him off against United in midweek. Earlier this morning, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also confirmed Jordan Mutch and Kevin Theophile-Catherine are both in contention to return for tomorrow’s home game against Norwich.

Alan Pardew will assess the fitness of attackers Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby. The pair missed the stalemate with Norwich in midweek through injury and remain doubtful for the weekend. New signing Luuk de Jong is available after completing his move this week, however the forward is unlikely to be handed a start against Sunderland.

Meanwhile, the Football Association have dismissed Newcastle’s appeal against the red card handed to Loic Remy in midweek. The striker will now serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect. There was good news for Norwich, though, with the FA rescinding Bradley Johnson’s red card for his part in the Remy clash last Tuesday evening.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

No mass exodus from Aguero, yet. Only 8k transfers out today.
That may change if we get definite news from the City press conference.

I expect him to be out for a few games.

I am struggling to decide between A and B as well. I think Rooney can keep up with RVP (49 points to RVP's 54 in GWs 1-4, 7-11) so probably B.

It's fecking unbelievable that Rémy serves a three match ban while Johnson's red card was rescinded. Both of them did precisely the same thing, except for that Johnson play acted being headbutted, while Rémy didn't. It would have been understandable for the ref to fall to it, but FA had the video to see that they were just pushing heads against each other. Yet another moment where play acting is rewarded.

And for what possible reason could it have been correct?

Again, I would accept both red cards upheld, but to rescind one and give one a three match ban when both were guilty to precisely same things, is outrageously unjust.

If anything, Johnson should have got an extra three match ban for trying to play act (and succeeding in it) a red card to an opposition player. That's really disgusting behaviour that should be strictly punished.

here the video of the incident. It's fecking ridiculous. They are clearly standing heads against each other, both still, when Johnson suddenly backs up as if he was punched. And yet its the other guy who gets punished.

      http://hoofoot.com/?match=Norwich_City_0_-_0_Newcastle_U_2014_01_28

Just that kind of cheat are disgrace to whole sports, but what is worse is that these kind of decisions by FA encourage play acting. It is already bad enough that players have to fall to get free kicks and penalties, staying up or rising back when fouled is sanctioned by not getting penalties or freekicks, which encourages diving. Forwards practically are forced to dive in order to get fouls to opponent. But this is helluvalot worse, it mocks the situations where players actually are subjected to violence.

I always considered that RVP was worth it because of his consistency. With Moyes, his injuries have prevented this, making him more like the old RVP of Arsenal. Just wonder if getting him in, we could be left with problems when he starts picking up mysterious injuries again.

RB at Cardiff has been somthing of a bad slot for Cardiff this season...more recently McNaughton but I would expect Fabio to be first choice.

      not bad at all

id be a bit concerned about sterling starting indefinitely, he's not a prolficic points scorer either

i think his performances have been good the last few weeks hence why rogers is keeping him in the team on the right wing. ive got puncheon there as a back up if he doesnt start and if he drops out of favour over the coming weeks ill ship him out. just wondering who would you pick instead for 5.3m. thanks for your view

Hmmm, I defo need a guy like this. On W/C and have:

        Fabio | Vlaar | Chambers | Ward | Bruce

But i'm not convinced Chambers will keep his place.

Looking at your team it looks like you need another -4 this GW. Aguero and Lukaku would be my priorities, RVP/Sturridge + one of Tekkers/Jrod?

Right ... have managed to hold my knee so far, but would really appreciate some fresh eyes.

If Aguero is confirmed out, my team looks something like:

Kolorov (CHE) Sagna (CRY) Bardsley (new) [Ward Coleman]

Januzaj (sto) Silva (CHE) Mirallas (AVL) Lallana (ful) Haz (mci)

    Suarez (wba) Bony (whu) [Aguero]

Have enough in the bank for Aguero -> RVP, but this would be for a hit. Would then bench Hazard.

Alternative would be Coleman - > Baines and bench bardsley.

    Thoughts?

I'd say that's the way to go if Aguero is out. If you don't have Sturridge though, he's tempting.
