The ScoutCast – Episode 126 – Nostalgia

Bonus points delivered by the man in the stand. Golden Wonder crisps. Ian Woan. The 1982 World Cup. There’s more than a hint of nostalgia about this week’s episode Granville and I park the Zimmer frames to resume ScoutCast service.

My co-host is almost back to full-fitness, exercising his rehabilitated vocal chords and wrapping his recovered tonsils around more double Gameweek discussion, along with a further round of community posers. Aguero’s double Gameweek potential, Granville’s fading faith in Moyes and our preferred flavour of crisps-based snack are amongst the hard-hitting topics on the agenda, following on from the usual bout of regulars.

Roll back the years via this link, or look back in anger via the player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Big question.

    Fonte or Shawcross going forward.

Southampton have some cracking home games. I'd go with Fonte, or probably pocket the cash and go with Chambers. That's just me.

Doesn't seem that way 🙂 Usually have it two days before, hmm. Guess I'll just have to wait. Mirallas didn't fall last night anyways so it's all good.

I actually fancy him to be in the points this GW. Can't ask for a much better fixture, and they do need the points.

He's in my team and I'm not overly confident. If he starts, I'll be a bit more confident about points but I won't be surprised to see a 1 or 2 pointer from him

Repost because it was such a burning question.

I have Oviedo and 4.3 in the bank. Would ideally like to replace him with a cheapie and am thinking Zaha at 5.5 could be a shout.

    Any thoughts?

I would be wary about buying Zaha since we don't know if he'll start and what position he'll take up on the pitch (or at least I don't!). I'm not sure Ole knows his best team yet. If I were to get a Cardiff mid, I'd probably consider Mutch over Zaha but I'm boring

For -4 I'm not sure. I think if you have the bank to do it and want Mata over Mirallas for the next few weeks, go for it.

No guarantee Mirallas even has a double right now due to rotation

That's it though isn't it - I can't see Miralas getting both games in the double - therefore he's like a Kolarov atm to me...

I appreciate getting rid of Mirallas, I'm probably doing the same, but I'm not sure Mata is the answer. I feel bad about having him in my team because he's filling up a Yaya Toure-shaped slot in my midfield :\ I think you're buying yourself a problem for a short-term fix, but who knows, maybe he'll start producing...

I'd stick with Mirallas, grit my teeth and ditch next GW for free if need be.

        This is good advice.

I'm doing the same for a free and I don't see it as much of an upgrade, more of a short-term solution until I WC in GW31

Precisely. If you WC it's a different beast altogether. I feel terrible about having both RVP and Mata because they COULD have been Aguero and Yaya and I fear, ownership wise, I'm in trouble for the double :X Stay away from United players until we see some form!

I'd say this is a much better option 😮 You can assess how he does this weekend and in GW30.

I mean I'm sort of stuck on Mirallas, I got 2 FTs and nothing to spend them on and I'm reluctantly ditching since he's a bit of a risk in terms of being nailed, but he has potential 😮

Yeah, Cardiff next week is tasty. If he starts that and rips it up then surely he's nailed on for the double. If not, can ditch for Nolan/AJ for a -4.

No hits taken. Saved a transfer in the previous weeks and brought in Snodgrass and Ince who have so far been unsuccessful. I'm set on taking more hits come GW31 but I hope only one or two will be taken at max. Yes, defence has been a pretty average for me but the counts accumulated is not too bad.

I'm thinking Nolan + Colback or Ki myself. I fancy Nolan to score against Hull and away against Stoke could also provide points now that Adam is banned.. AJ's form has always seemed to come in patches, and Colback/Ki get the odd goal and assist as well - and its just Noone that will have to give way for them as 5th mid

    B) Ditch Suarez/Sturridge/Mirallas for someone with a game
    C) Mirallas -> AJ in preparation for DGW as Mirallas is a rotation threat
    D) Freshen up defense

Ditch one of your keepers for the cheapest playing keeper IMO. You can't play both in the double.

I would be tempted to hold Mannone due to the fact he plays 2 more games than Adrian

Adrian has a better double in GW31 and covers Mannone's bad fixtures well though. The cheapest playing one is Speroni at 4.6, but I have double Palace defense already. Next one is Marshall, but Cardiff are terrible and he costs 0.3 more than my selling price for Adrian. Do you see my problem here? Basically getting a worse option in that costs more in order to get a couple of points this GW.

I hear you. Not an easy decision. But since I don't like any of the other options, this one seems the most sensible IMO. Do any of the replacements you mentioned cover Mannone's bad gameweeks? Marshall covers Mannone's bad GW33 and 35 nicely

Marshall rotates pretty well, but Cardiff seems leaky at best. I think he's still the "lesser of two evils" since he's not that expensive and gets plenty of save points. Will see what I figure out but I reckon I'll go with C, I've held on to Mirallas too long before.

C seems sideways. You are basically losing realistically 2-3 points this week (with a slim chance of a CS) in order to make sure you get AJ over Mirallas, which may or may not translate into an extra 90 minutes. I suppose AJ having 1 extra game over Mirallas makes it more attractive though.

Again I'd be doubling, got MOlsson and Chambers. Boruc rotates terrible and is 0.4M more. Ruddy is even more expensive, has better fixtures though. Worried that spending an FT on something "not DGW related" will translate into a hit in GW31.

We're talking about fielding another player this week here though, don't forget, which is basically the same as getting another DGWer and fielding one less this week.

B C and D are no better in that respect either.

That is true, I do get a guarantee of one more game with this which is nice. Good fixtures this week as well. I'll have to consider the budget though, keeping Mirallas and doing Adrian -> Marshall is a 1.1M difference :\

This is a good point. I am actually warming to C a little more now though as Sunderland have one more fixture than Everton, even though you aren't gaining it this week. Adam is also nailed-on. I would be wary of counting eggs before they hatch though and sometimes a guaranteed short-term gain is better than a speculative long-term one, especially in FPL where things can change in the blink of an eye (especially if certain teams DGW is postponed due to FA cup draws)

The way I look at this, is that I see it as a FREE free transfer. Like I had a WC, you know? Mirallas to AJ is sideways (at best), but it's a transfer that I'd basically just roll over if I didn't do it, as I think the GK pairing I have is the way to go.

Who would your option be in B though? C surely makes no sense since you are using a transfer this week yet fielding 10 players, just make sure you get an extra game in GW31 (which may not even turn out to be the case if Mirallas does play both)

I thought C had some sort of hidden genius' around it. I'm ditching a DGWer, sure, but he's a rotation threat for someone who is nailed. Made sense in my head when I was cooking this up 😀 My real problem is that I have 2FTs, if I didn't have any I'd just save and all would be well! Now I feel like I have to do something. I still think Adrian -> Marshall is a downgrade if you look at the rest of the season considering the form Adrian and West Ham have been in defensively, and I'm paying a premium, for one GW?

So, Wilshere out "For at least Six Weeks" (or imo The season)

Given that he is a player who requires coating in twelve layers of bubble wrap before making himself a sandwich, I can't help thinking that his decision to stay on and then the collective decision to let come back out after half time, was at best risky.
I know hair-line fractures can be near impossible to detect and identify, but come on guys, this is Wilshere we're talking about.

Help me because I'm obviously being thick with my logic.

    - Obvious transfer for a lot of us who have Kos, is to get in a defender who is certain to play this week, but also have a dgw.
    - The only team that ticks this box is Man U.
    - If Evra out of reach, the other defender who is nailed on, with attacking threat is Vidic. He's not too expensive either.

Why then is he not being considered a viable option?

apart from the fact they play city in the dgw (which I personally think will be tight)

A lot seem to be going for Smalling, when his recent playing stats were up they're very impressive.

Parker ruled out. That's me down to 9. Do I transfer him out for a hit?
If I can get a cheap midfielder under 5 who plays this week it will be like taking a 2 point hit with the upside that he may do something.
    options- B Johnson 4.4m Redmond 4.6 Richardson 4.8 S. Davis 4.7
