The ScoutCast – Episode 126 – Nostalgia

Bonus points delivered by the man in the stand. Golden Wonder crisps. Ian Woan. The 1982 World Cup. There’s more than a hint of nostalgia about this week’s episode Granville and I park the Zimmer frames to resume ScoutCast service.

My co-host is almost back to full-fitness, exercising his rehabilitated vocal chords and wrapping his recovered tonsils around more double Gameweek discussion, along with a further round of community posers. Aguero’s double Gameweek potential, Granville’s fading faith in Moyes and our preferred flavour of crisps-based snack are amongst the hard-hitting topics on the agenda, following on from the usual bout of regulars.

Roll back the years via this link, or look back in anger via the player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Everyone agree wildcards shall be used dgw 31?

I can field 11 this gw (depending on Noone and Punch) and 8-9 (Bruce) for 31.

That's without hits. I don't think I want to get 11 dgw players for my WC anyways, because my team will not be balanced for the rest of the season. Keeping Haz, Cahill and Lallana for example.

Any thoughts? Should I save my WC?

i think the general thought around here is either gw 31 or hold a little longer than that even

I will use mine to go into 31 and i think only have Hazard as non DGWer

I may have been swayed into taking a hit to get rid of Alex Bruce from my line up - is there another defender for 3.9 that people have confidence in?
Newcastle have a nice double and Dummet has been praised recently.
Chambers seems to pop up but I am very aware of him losing his place to Clyne.

      1) Cech (TOT) (avl) + Evra (wba) (LIV)

    bottom of page:

Help me because I'm obviously being thick with my logic.

    - Obvious transfer for a lot of us who have Kos, is to get in a defender who is certain to play this week, but also have a dgw.
    - The only team that ticks this box is Man U.
    - If Evra out of reach, the other defender who is nailed on, with attacking threat is Vidic. He's not too expensive either.

Why then is Vidic not being considered a viable option?

I don't like much a United defender to be honest. They play Liverpool next week, west ham away then City at home...
Of course Vidic is an obvious choice, he is the captain and 100% guaranteed to start.

That gives Everton, Palace, Sunderland and maybe Villa some nice fixtures if the games fall in GW34. I think Benteke could be a good buy in GW33 and cheap Palace bench players will be good to hold onto too. Investing in Sunderland also looks wise.

Having difficulty deciding this one, so interested to hear the views of you guys....

Q: When would you say is best to play your WC - GW30 or GW31?

    GW30 POSITIVES

    1) EVE, SUN and MCY all have decent fixtures in GW30, Most will have few players from those teams now (due to GW29 blanks) and will be wanting a fair few of them from GW31 onwards anyway (multiple DGWs).

    2) It enables an extra free transfer to bring in future DGWers post GW31

    3) You are likely to get certain DGWers cheaper.

    GW31 POSITIVES

    1) Enables a last minute decision on all GW31 DGWers, i.e. removes risk of injuries & suspensions in GW30, Also enables an extra week to view certain players (Aguero, Remy etc)

    2) LIV have a tough GW30 fixture, so there would be no need to load up until their favourable GW31 DGW.

    3) SOT have a great GW30 fixture, so it would facilitate keeping the likes of Boruc, Lallana, Lambert, JRod etc before ditching all/most in a GW31 WC.

My squad is below, and I have no idea which route is best!

    Szczesny, Davis
Terry, Ivanovic, B Davies, Demel, Whittaker
    Hazard, Lallana, Mirallas, Snodgrass, Puncheon
    Suarez, RVP, Lambert

RVP at home to a leaky LIV defence though - could be a goal fest that one.

I think 30 vs 31 is a really tough call. Decision day tomorrow!

Haha, I didn't catch your post before - very similar!

In a similar position to you with 3 CHE and 2 SOT for GW30, but I think replacing these players with MCY, EVE, NEW, SUN players = no real loss for GW30. In fact it's probably a decent game as I can see AVL scoring.

The main issue is the injury/suspension risk if WCing that week early. It's probably only minor in reality I guess.

The front 3 is very tricky if WCing in GW30 - Remy, Lukaku, SAS, Aguero, RVP are all viable options imo.

B - as I don't rate Baines' attacking potential, his last game was the first in ages he's played well and he didn't get a shot on goal. He's had 0 assist this season according to everyone but FPL so for me it's clinging on to last year.
That makes the money spent to go from Ward to Zaba a great move, and Livermore has a nice DGW is you did fancy ever bringing him off the bench.

The same. He hit two free kicks at the start of the season then did nothing for ten games. He hasn't got the same killer instinct as last year in my opinion.

Everton have had a few injuries at the back so could it be that his defensive duties have limited his attacking appeal, as has Mirallas taking some free kicks off him but he isn't playing all the time now so I see that as another benefit. Also Martinez' comments about the transfer speculation affecting his performances at the start of the season, and a short injury. And despite all that he's still ranked 7th for defenders

Baines missed a few games though, I think if you took Baines' points and scaled it up to be as if he'd played the same games as Coleman it would be very close and Baines hasn't even hit form yet

I'm keeping because I don't need cash for my plans and I feel like I might as well hold on through these three great fixtures.

But I can totally understand wanting to get rid - a £7.5m rotation risk who doesn't pass to his team mates isn't very appealing on the surface. If you can make it work for you (e.g. swap for AJ and use the spare change well) then go for it.

Baines has the attacking potential in his locker. Among the DGW31 teams, only Pool has better fixtures for CS. Everton also plays Fulham away on GW32, still not that bad I reckon.

Only if you've a defender that doesn't ever play does it seem like a good idea, as it'll only cost -2.
To replace a playing player with any of the options playing this week for a hit would probably be a bad idea (unless you really want them long term).
