The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 31

We turn to the Scout Picks and Differntials for inspiration as we look to get one over Paddy Power. Two of the top three midfielders in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game get our backing and we also put our faith in a born-again Fantasy talent now plying his trade on Humberside:

Our first match of interest is the KC encounter between Hull and West Brom tomorrow afternoon. Paddy are offering massive 50/1 for Nikica Jelavic to score two or more and the Tigers to keep a clean sheet – decent odds, given that very scenario occurred as recently as Gameweek 27 away to Cardiff. The Croatian has notched three times in his last five, whilst Steve Bruce’s side have kept out their opponents twice over that period and we’re willing to part company with £3 for this one.

On to the Etihad next, where Man City entertain basement-dwellers Fulham. This time around, Paddy are prepared to offer 16/5 on Yaya Toure to score and the hosts to register a clean sheet. The Ivorian has scored in three of his last five home appearances, and with Manuel Pellegrini’s side racking up three consecutive clean sheets, we’re willing to make this our bet of the week and hand Paddy £4 of our kitty.

Our final £3 goes on Liverpool’s trip to Cardiff. Paddy are offering 13/2 on Steven Gerrard to score and the Merseysiders to keep out Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s strugglers. The Reds skipper has scored four times in his last three road trips alone, and with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge wreaking havoc up top, there’s always the likelihood of another spot-kick falling his way. Liverpool have registered back-to-back shut-outs, whilst their hosts have failed to score in six of Solskjaer’s 10 games in charge.

If you’re new to Paddy Power, you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up on this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Yeah Sturridge\Suarez, Lukaku, Dzeko, Rooney (only owns one if the Liverpool pair and wants two strikers to go alongside his Liverpool striker). Or at least that's the situation I am in.

Don't worry too much about hits in a DGW if you are bringing in big hitters.
The problem is if you bringing in second string players just to get two games.
MC and Everton have 2 DGWs in the next four so are prime targets.
Gerrard is DGW gold but with two pool already you may not want to load up.

      Haz - Yaya or Gerrard
Ivan - Baines or MC defender

    Suarez/Sturridge/Lukaku

    Marshall/Hazard/Ivanovic/Ward

Play Norwich players at home to Sunderland or Chelsea players at home to Arsenal?

Basically it's Olsson or Ivanovic, and Snodgrass or Hazard?

Why is benching Hazard for a cheap defender who is nailed on to have a double gameweek a bad idea?

The defender starts off with a potential 2 extra points. Hazard would need to assist or score to beat that total (and then only just) and that is far from a given. If this defender gets 1 clean sheet then Hazard would need to score or assist twice against an Arsenal side (who Liverpool aside) don't concede goals that freely. This looks highly unlikely also given the way Mourinho seta his sides up to play the top teams.

So could someone please explain why it is madness to play a cheap dgw defender over Hazard?

Well he scores 1 goal he's got potential baps going his way.. same with 1 assist since this looks set to be a low scoring game. i guess the ceiling of a cheap defender and hazard this week is similar though

I take your point. It could go either way. Both could score between 1-10 points this week. I just don't think it is a given which is which (which you seem to agree with).

I do agree that a cheap defender could lose a couple of points and end up with 2 points. I am just not convinced by Hazard getting many more this week. I have just heard lots of people saying it is daft to play a cheap defender over Hazard..I just don't particularly agree.

I guess it's more due to Arsenal being the opponent. I am forced to play him so will be hope for a decent score to keep up with those with more DGWers.

I don't think it is madness. I would just consider playing him for a DGW player you weren't sure of.
He could easily just get 2 points. But he has more goals than all of Chelsea's strikers combined (which isn't too hard this season!)

Not a bad idea unless the fixtures are against the defender. You need a good chance of a CS in at least one of the games. With Haz being up against one of the toughest defences in the league as well it makes even more sense

Silva* Nolan* barkley* hazard (ARS) ----- snoddy
    rooney* suarez* lukaku*

So have 9 dgw players but doubt barkley will play both...would you make any of the following transfers for ANOTHER hit?

A: snoddy >> AJ/Ox....n then bench one of barkley or hazard

Thinking seriously about Sturridge - chasing an 80 point deficit. I appreciate this move could result in a 100 point deficit but I have to put the chips in the middle at some point.

Not this week. The more games in a week the better chance that the overall highest scorer will prevail. If you were deciding on (a highly hypothetical) 38 match week we'd all choose Suarez. For a single game, maybe Studge?
