Scout Picks – Gameweek 32

We return to normality this week after the 15-match marathon that was Gameweek 31. Four teams – Everton, Chelsea, Southampton and Liverpool – supply our Scout Picks XI with a pair of players apiece, whilst a couple of Manchester-based options also get the nod:

Vito Mannone welcomes West Ham to the Stadium of Light on Monday evening, having kept two clean sheets in his last three home encounters. Sam Allardyce’s side are struggling for goals on the road and have netted just once in their last two away games, so another shut-out could be on the cards for the Italian, whose save-point appeal has helped him average five points per game to date.

Everton’s trip to Fulham brings Seamus Coleman into defence. The marauding right-back will be looking for his seventh goal of the season against Felix Magath’s strugglers, whilst the expected return of Phil Jagielka strengthens the Toffees chances of registering back-to-back shut-outs for the first time since Gameweek 14.

John Terry’s Fantasy owners will be confident of further returns as Chelsea travel to Crystal Palace tomorrow afternoon. The Blues have conceded just five times in their last 15 league matches and face an Eagles side that have scored once in their previous five. Terry’s threat in the box and ability to hoover us the bonus points keeps him ahead of his defensive team-mates in our estimations.

A home game with Newcastle hands Jose Fonte a spot in our back three. The Magpies have scored just once in the last five without the injured Loic Remy, whilst Fonte has found the net more times (3) and earned more bonus points (18) than any other option at the back for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Three double-figure hauls in the last four Gameweeks highlights the relentless form of City’s Yaya Toure. Granted, a trip to the Emirates is no easy task, but with the Gunners shipping eight in their last two and devoid of Laurent Koscielny at the back, the Ivorian’s set-piece and spot-kick duties will boost his quest to serve up the Fantasy points yet again.

Eden Hazard is drafted into this week’s Scout Picks for Chelsea’s trip to Palace. Tony Pulis’ side have just a single shut-out to their name over the last seven, and with 14 goals and 10 assists thus far, the Belgian will be confident of delivering his ninth double-figure haul of the season against the Selhurst Park strugglers.

The relentless consistency of Steven Gerrard could be key for Liverpool’s home clash with Spurs. Having already put five past their opponents at White Hart Lane earlier this season, Brendan Rodgers’ side will be optimistic of notching an eighth successive win and keeping their title tilt on track – a free-kick against Sunderland in midweek means the Reds skipper has now produced a goal or assist in nine of his last 10 Anfield appearances.

Having ended a six-game scoring drought at Spurs last weekend, Adam Lallana looks to have rediscovered his form ahead of the visit of Newcastle. The Southampton captain certainly seems to prefer home comforts – five of his seven double-figure hauls have arrived at St Mary’s – and he’ll be looking to plunder the points against a Magpies backline that has just shipped three to Everton in midweek.

David Moyes may have one eye on Tuesday’s Champions League game with Bayern but it seems highly unlikely he’ll be prepared to omit Wayne Rooney from his XI to face Aston Villa. The under-fire United boss is in desperate need of a morale-boost after some damaging home defeats to Liverpool and City, and with a knee injury keeping Robin van Persie in the treatment room, Rooney’s run of four goals in the last five look vital to the hosts’ chances of delivering against a Midlands outfit that were hit for four by Stoke last weekend.

Yet again, Luis Suarez is the overwhelming favourite in this week’s Captain Poll. The Uruguayan has already delivered 22 points against Sunday’s opponents Tottenham in the Gameweek 16 mauling that led to the dismissal of Andre Villas-Boas, and with Tim Sherwood’s side conceding four in their last road trip, Suarez seems poised to take advantage of the visitors’ porous backline and could be in line for a fifteenth double-figure point-return of an incredible season.

Four goals in his last five in all competitions since returning from injury suggests Romelu Lukaku is in his best form of the season. Having racked up the returns in the Toffees’ double Gameweek, the big Belgian now makes his way to Craven Cottage to face a Fulham side that have leaked 12 goals in five matches since Felix Magath’s appointment.

A home game against Hull hands Stoke the chance to extend a run which has seen them taste defeat just once in their last eight. With the visitors scoring a mere 11 times on their travels all season, we call up Ryan Shawcross, whose threat in the box and ability to pick up bonus could come to fruition at the Britannia.

Moved to the bench in midweek as Gus Poyet went on the defensive at Anfield, Adam Johnson still found time to grab an assist as a second-half substitute. Sunderland need to go on the attack against West Ham on Monday evening and the wide man will surely be reinstalled to the starting XI for this proverbial six-pointer.

Wilfried Bony is a little unlucky only to make the bench for Swansea’s home game with Norwich. Goals against Everton and Arsenal in last week’s double continued the form which has seen the Ivorian score eight times in 12 appearances since the turn of the year – he looks vital to the hosts’ chances of clinching the points against Steve Bruce’s side.

I brought Azpi in this week. Not a fan of doubling up on defense but Chelsea's defensive form plus fixture are too hard to be ignored.

The team is looking in decent shape as I just did Sterling > Snodgrass although I feel like after all of that planning and hits taken for the DGW's sake it all went by very quickly and was so abrupt. Not complaining though, I had a pretty plump green arrow after a few poor weeks but now my mindset is in a way, that of one planning far ahead. Which is a good thing as well as a bad because it can make you think irrationally and taken unnecessary hits but after all of that in the end I just went with the simple and I hope right transfer by bringing back Snoddy.

    Not sure who to play

    Got to choose between.....

Defence - two from Chambers, Brown, Dummett, Chester at the moment going with Chambers and Brown.

Need to bench one of Dzeko, Gerrard, Nasri, Nolan - planning on benching Nasri but finding this one pretty tricky!

Just the one that i've been mulling over for the duration of the week, do you think it is worth it to take 1 or 2 hits for defenders if you plan on playing 5 at the back, I was considering taking a few hits to get Azpi-Cahill-Demichelis-Baines-Jags as my backline with Yaya-Hazard as my mids and a bunch of cut priced options as well that I would bench ordinarily and SLS up front. In the end the conclusion I came to was that, so late in the season with points being a bit scarce and every point weighing heavily in your OR I don't think the hits could justify it and I think going with five defenders at the back is a bit of a daunting prospect especially with a multitude of mid-priced midfield options emerging and one fluky goal can mean loads of points down the drain. I guess this was kind of a lot to write, but what's your opinion on this?

Sterling. Chambers is a good bet against Newcastle, but Southy ain't exactly air tight at the back when he plays, plus he offers little on the attacking side of things. Sterling could nab a couple against that Spurs D and at home.........if he plays....

Probably the safer move, BSLOEBADGER. I'm sitting Chambers in favor of Bardsley. That could blow up in my face like a firecracker with a short wick. That being said, Bardsmeister offers more attacking threat, so I'll hedge my bets on that and keep a good thought. Still can't believe Bardsley got me a big fat 0 in the DGW. What a jerkface. He needs to repay me this week, or I'll go hunting for him.

Fulham and Cardiff seem almost sure bets to go down. Think Sundy might just escape the bottom 3 however....at who's expense? Now that's the question. Going to be an interesting end to the season both at the top and the bottom.

Good points. Good points indeed. Crystal Palace only with 1 goal in the last 5 league matches. That is pretty pathetic. Plus, they may just get blasted 8-0 style against Chelsea. No offense to Cardiff fans, but given the whole situation with the owner, I hope they go down.

Getting rid of Mata who to bring in? 10.3m to spend

I have Hazard, Sterling, Nolan, Pozuelo as the rest of my mid.

I can't choose Yaya as my rival who is ahead of me in league is 50pts clear and I need differentials at this stage. Silva?

Nasri almost always plays over 80 minutes as Pellegrini usually makes subs late in games. But as for my liking of him over Silva is not just the favorable price difference, would you not rather have an attacking return from a sub appearance (hypothetical of course, Nasri is a sure starter) than a player who will give you a dissatisfying 2 hard earned points in 90 minutes of sweat because I myself would take the subs' attacking returns everytime

It's an interesting debate. I have always personally preferred players who get 90 mins week in week out. It's why historically I tend to avoid man u/ man c because of all the rotation amongst their squads!

I feel Yaya is a must, especially in all DGW that City will have.

Otherwise, the gap will be widen by Yaya.

You have to cancel out his points and then choose the right mid-price MF to make up the points.

I turned 60 points over in one week, on Gw26, from 2 points behind to 57 points more.

Then, just 3 more weeks, the gap has been increased to 89 points by end of Gw 29.

50 points is not that difficult.

Snodgrass is one interesting choice. These 3 weeks are their best chance to gain more points in the table. Norwich's last 4 games are hard as hell. If they want to stay, it's these 3 weeks to play their best.

We share 7 players currently. If I had yaya that would make 8 players. That is a lot of reliance on 4-6 players to make the difference up. Hmmmmmmmm tricky

Keep going with the best team and hope luck come your way.

Luck helped me on Gw26. It wasn't MF or FW who made the differences, but Marshall + Kosc + Ivan + Fonte all scored double-digit points. It might happen with you too.

I was in a somewhat similar predicament and went with Yaya. Too much to lose if you don't have him against a rival in your league. 50 pts can be made up. There is still enough time. I would get Yaya and try to figure out a different differential. Plus, he has two DGW's coming up. If you don't have him for those, you will likely get left in your rival's dust.

I just looked up the exact number. It's a 63pt gap in a winner takes all league. No other players between me and him. I am starting to think you might be right, hope my differentials elsewhere in the field makeup. It's just frustrating to have breakeven players at this stage...

Yep. I hear ya brother. It is frustrating, and the way this season is going, there aren't many differentials to choose from. This last gameweek, I tried what you were considering (not getting Yaya because a rival had him and trying to make it up in some other way). Now I'm screwed big time. Ain't gonna play that game again.

I'm literally in about the same exact position. Points difference is similar, as is the conundrum of what differentials to pick up on my rival. He seems to have a great team to go forward with. Differentials for me at the moment include Bardsley, Huddlestone, Mannone, Baines, and Livermore. Not exactly the most threatening bunch, but it is what it is.
