United Confirm Rooney Toe Injury

Manchester United have this evening confirmed that Wayne Rooney is carrying a toe injury, seemingly making him a major doubt for the trip to Newcastle on Saturday. After hours of rumour on Twitter, the club have posted their own tweets on the subject, quoting David Moyes who goes on to indicate that Rooney could also be a doubt for Wednesday’s Champions League second leg with Bayern.

“He’s got a terrible toe. Not only is it a problem for this game, it could be a problem for the Munich match. We need to monitor it. We’ll get him treatment all over the weekend and see if we can speed it up.”

Meanwhile, Twitter is awash with screenshots of both the Times and the Sun back pages who look set to carry the story in tomorrow morning’s editions. Earlier this evening a story, first posted at 6pm on the Manchester Evening News site, reported the injury but was hastily removed. The article has now returned following the official tweets from Old Trafford.

The Evening News article includes further quotes from the United boss…

“There is not an awful lot you can do with a toe injury. Sometimes you can feel better quite quickly with them and sometimes you need an injection to play with it if it is bruising. With a lot of toe injuries you have to make sure there isn’t a hairline fracture or crack in your toe. We will have all that checked.”

Given the statements from Moyes and the importance of Wednesday’s second leg in Germany, the chances of Rooney taking to the field at St James’ Park look remote to say the least. The United boss appears to indicate that the striker will undergo treatment for the injury in a bid to have him available for the Bayern tie. The injury may not be severe. It could, of course, be a smokescreen to protect Rooney in preparation for the midweek tie but, regardless, this will likely see Danny Welbeck or even Javier Hernandez lead the line in the North East.

Rooney was included in our Scout Picks earlier today and has been bought by over 25,000 Fantasy Premier League managers so far this Gameweek. However, with a blank to follow in Gameweek 34, he’s now set to suffer significant sales.

Reluctantly, we’ve made the decision to edit the Scout Picks graphic following this news for fear of misleading visitors who may not have digested this news. We have left the original copy on the Scout Picks article intact, however.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Morning DZ.

I've still got my WC and I'm not sure when to call it in.
I've got 2 FT this week and looking at axing Evra and Nolan.

    a) Terry, Eriksen + WC next week.
    b) Distin, Johnson + WC week after DGW is over.

I've been advise option B is better.
    Thoughts?

    Thanks all 🙂

    Team is

    Adrian
    Zaba Coleman Evra Azpi
    Cazorla Hazard Yaya
    Suarez Lukaku Sturridge

    Sterling Bruce Noone

To fund Aguero I gotta do either one.

    a. Cazorla -> Eriksen
    b. Sterling -> Ki

If A, I'm doing it next week.
B means save FT and do it double next week

Yeah wise saving the transfer. I saved my transfer last week and am cashing it in this week to bring in two more DGWers and Eriksen who looks he'll be in my team for the rest of the season (watch him get dropped now).

I could have a lot of head scratching next week about what transfers to make for the DGW. If Sunderland do well I'll have to consider Johnson, getting Aguero will mean considering whether to sell Dzeko, and I'll have to mull over whether it's worth bringing in Baines or a Palace midfielder.

I'm basically gonna accept that uncertainty, having done what I think are the best moves this week.

Cheers, triple City at home to Southampton did worry me a bit, but individually the Rooney > Dzeko move made sense to me this week. I fancy Southampton have switched off quite a lot since getting so comfortably midtable they have nothing to play for. Loads of mistakes and quite vulnerable in the air.

Does look good for this week, Isacki.

Bench order could be important with Mirallas's unpredictability of starts, and personally I'd reverse it. I'm anticipating a Palace cleansheet though; I take it you prefer Noone's chances of attacking returns?

      1. isacki: full casual

The bench order has been a bloody nightmare this week, indeed even playing Mirallas and Coleman have not been easy decisions. I keep wanting to bench Coleman for Ward/Flanagan and feel like a Mirallas sub appearance to keep my points on the bench is inevitable.

I see Palace's CS chances as much better than West Ham's (hence why I brought Speroni in to play over Adrian, plus the DGW) but have some doubts about their CS because they are playing away and Cardiff have been scoring quite a lot, especially at home, so I'm unsure about potentially doubling on the Palace defence.

For the same reason I think Noone has a decent chance of getting something, though I'd pefer having Mutch. It is also admittedly a habit to put the attacking player as first sub, because their upside is higher.

Ah yes of course it would mean a double-up with Speroni. I can see why you've had a hard time setting up your squad, a fair few dilemmas in there, mostly of the good kind.

I have the opposite approach Re: subs when the players involved are from teams further down the league; I always figure a cleansheet is more likely than any individual show of brilliance from a cheap attacker. But this is why I never get Mutch points in UFPL, haha.

Ahaha. Yeah I can see why you do that, given the right fixture, the clean sheet (which is the same points as a goal for the striker) is likelier than the player getting the same attacking points. If Palace were at home to Cardiff, I'd probably reverse Noone and Ward's positions. Cardiff have been scoring a lot recently though and are playing at home so it tips it for me.

I am quite concerned after this time Noone's spent out that he might not play though...

Yes it's probably more down to my blind faith in the Palace defence thinking about it. You probably do right. There is a slight question mark over Noone gametime actually isn't there, dang, if you get your starting eleven AND bench right this week I will be seriously impressed!

There's absolutely no chance I could get them all right haha.

I need these points conditions to come true

                Coleman > Noone > Flanagan > Ward
                Mirallas > Noone

I would be amazed if I got them all right

Putting it like that now I'm wondering why I think Coleman playing Arsenal is going to be the highest scoring of those four

    Innsie's Weekly DZ Draft!

Pick 4 players for the upcoming GW only, with a total combined price of 23m (or less). Current FPL prices will be used. The weekly winner is the person whose combined 4 players score the most FPL points in the upcoming GW.

NEW RULE: To nullify my advantage of picking first, I am not allowed to pick anyone from the top 4 (Liverpool, Chelsea, City, Arsenal).

    Rules:
    - No captains
    - Players can be picked from all 4 positions: GK, DEF, MID, FWD
    - A maximum of TWO players can be picked from the same PL team
    - A maximum of TWO players can be picked in the same position (eg. You can't pick 3 strikers)
    - Once a player has been chosen by someone, the same player cannot be chosen again.

Please make sure your 4 players are under the 23m budget to save me from having to go and check myself.

    My picks:

    Mutch, M.Olsson, Snodgrass and Adebayor.

Here's an idea, Maybe include an ownership % bracket.
So maybe 23m or less with a 40% ownership total. Though would take time. Unless players are forced to include the prices and ownership as well.
          mine is at 32.9.

    Mutch or Gerard?
    Coleman or Ward?

    Mannone (Adrian)
    Baines, Desmichales, Coleman (Ward. Chester)
    Hazard, Yaya, Silver, Gerard (Mutch)
    Susrez, Sturridge, Lukaku

I'd love to say Ward but I can't. You've got to play Coleman if you have him and the same with Gerrard, always the chance of a penalty conversion.

    Pick 1 to start please

    A) Mirallas - rotation risk and up against a decent team(despity how chelsea and pool wrecked them). Bookies have him at 3.40 ATG

    B) Flanagan - Nailed on started and pool have been been better defensively lately. Bookies have him at 2.50 to keep a CH

As a Gooner I must admit I'm distracting myself from our decline by entertaining myself with Spurs right now.

Over the past couple of years, they've gone from Champions League football under Harry to Europa League football under AVB to basically appointing a passionate fan as manager... and now they're considering sharing Milton Keynes' ground for a season. Milton. Keynes.

This is the kind of thing that happens to me in football manager 😆
