Spot the Differential – Gameweek 33

Our Saturday morning search for overlooked alternatives is served up once again today. All of our trio have benefitted from a change in manager and are bracing themselves for some kind remaining matches to boost their chances of picking up the points for the run-in:

Emmanuel Adebayor

Frozen out of the first-team by former manager Andre Villas-Boas, the forward made an immediate impact upon Tim Sherwood’s installation at the White Hart Lane helm. In his first 10 league starts for the new Tottenham boss, Adebayor racked up eight goals, four assists and 13 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points – picking up 77 points – before injuries started to hamper his performances.

Calf and hamstring problems plagued the Togo international’s displays and saw him muster just a single assist in his last four appearances before a heel injury – sustained in the Gameweek 30 loss to former club Arsenal – forced him onto the sidelines. Having missed the last couple of matches, Adebayor has been passed fit ahead of Monday’s home meeting with struggling Sunderland and, down to just 7.6 in FPL (7.6 in the Sky Sports game and 3.5 in the Sun Dream Team) and with an ownership under 5%, he’s back on our Fantasy radars ahead of a very favourable run-un.

With games against West Brom, Fulham, Stoke, West Ham and Villa following on from the Black Cats clash, Adebayor could well be set to continue a series of displays that have earned him 5.9 points per game in FPL – an average bettered only by Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero, Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney thus far.

Ashkan Dejagah

Five points from safety and with the games quickly running out, Fulham haven’t fully benefited from the arrival of Felix Magath. The German has delivered just four points from his six matches in charge of the Craven Cottage outfit, though his installation has, at least, reignited the Fantasy prospects of midfielder Ashkan Dejagah.

The Iran international seemed a peripheral figure under previous boss Rene Meulensteen but, having worked under the German at Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, was immediately re-installed to the Fulham starting line-up for the Gameweek 27 trip to West Brom. Since then, Dejagah has notched three of Fulham’s five goals over his subsequent five appearances, returning from injury last weekend to fire a second-half strike against Everton.

Available for 4.9 in FPL (4.7 in the Sky Sports game and 1.5 in the Sun Dream Team), Dejagah travels to Aston Villa this weekend, with Paul Lambert’s side looking to improve their defensive displays after conceding four in each of their last two fixtures. With home matches against Norwich, Hull and Palace in the final five Gameweeks, Dejagah’s prospects of points remain positive as Magath attempts to valiantly conjure up the displays which would somewhat unexpectedly lift his side to safety.

Fraizer Campbell

The Cardiff striker started the season with a bang, racking up a 16-point return in his first home match in a shock 3-2 win over Man City. A single goal in his subsequent 16 appearances – against former club United – saw the bandwagon grind to a halt as Campbell struggled for any semblance of consistency.

Since then, Malky Mackay has departed and Campbell has struck just three more times, but with new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer going on the offensive over the last few matches, his prospects could be on the rise. With the Bluebirds looking incapable of keeping out opponents, the Norwegian’s somewhat gung-ho tactics have seen his side score three times in the last four league outings, and with some kind fixtures still remaining, more goals look on the menu.

First up is a home clash with fellow strugglers Palace later today before Solskjaer’s side square up to Stoke, Sunderland and Newcastle between now and Gameweek 37 – for those on the hunt for a cut-price forward, Campbell (6.3 in the Sky Sports game and 1.5 in the Sun Dream Team), may be worth a gamble.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I made a note of the first 10 or so games at the start of the season. It was 30 points down on my own picks. Should have carried it on all season really.

Yeah it tends to be quite right, and I've recently tried my best to follow it, but I'm really torn by its advices this week. Don't play Cardiff! Captain Hazard! Most crucially, don't buy Spurs defence! To me it would seem like a good idea seen their fixtures and tendency to low scoring matches against weaker teams.

I dunnno. Look at their matches against weaker opponents. Tendency to a low scoring matches. They've had a tough run of fixtures recently. But between City and Chelsea matches they had an easier set of matches and did not once concede over 1 goal and kept 3 cleanies too.

It's just the way they look at the moment. All over the place defensively. Playing a high line against Liverpool was just odd.

Of course, Kaboul-Dawson playing high line against Suarez and Sturridge is a suicide. But against weaker and say, semi-good teams that high defence line works very nicely. Same as with Arsenal: works wonders against good teams, is a nightmare against the strongest teams. Arsenal has that additional weakness of playing zonal marking in set pieces. Anyway, Spurs have the GK who can cover the distance behind the high defence line and when they've got Vert-Chiri back, the CB-pair should do as well. When it works it can prevent opponent from getting scoring chances.

I suppose another problem is there is strong competion for defence. Eve & city dgw's. Chelsea and arse string fixts too. I couldn't fit one in.

True in a sense. I may end up playing 4 defenders. Also banking on City and Chelsea.

Anyway, Chiriches' appeal relative to alternatives is cheap price. he costs you same as or less than a West Ham, WBA, Fulham or Sunderland defender. With that price you get a good player from a top-6 team with fantastic fixtures. Just seems bloody great, but when I check RMT, it tells me Chiri is going to score less than just about anybody in whole FPL. And I don't really get why.

Also, their defensive stats are reasonably good for last 6 matches despite very difficult fixtures. I don't think they're as bad as it seems now. And they have a top notch GK, which is always helping, and are just about to get their top CB-pair back too.

    Scout Pick Challenge Update

Just so everyone knows, unfortunately those with Rooney are stuck with Rooney. I have thought about allowing changes but the problems lie with the fact that I can't get everyone to change their picks who have included Rooney because I'm sure many won't be able to login until later, and that would be unfair on them.

The FFS Scout hasn't been changed, and as such still includes Rooney for fairness. Hope that clarifies things.

Any new entries are welcome @ http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/7085305

    Apologies peeps!

I want a City defender, especially bearing in mind City are playing twice next week. Would you guys go with Zabaletta or do you think Kompany is the safer bet to play twice next game week?

    Morning all.

Following in Forca's footsteps, I had the pleasure of guest appearing on Acqua's GW preview (last minute, hehe). Please see below, but obviously written prior to Rooney news.

Obviously we are looking at a one-off Gameweek. It is almost like picking your ideal team for PlayOn, or the Scout Picks when you can select more than one player from the same team in defence. I wouldn't want all these players in my squad of 15.

Should I start Gerrard or Mutch? Afraid Stevoss might be benched with him being on 9 yellows and a Pool having city next week :s

Which two would you bench marked with the asterisk:

    Terry - locked in
    Demi - locked in

    1. Coleman*
    2. Ward*
    3. Olsson*

Olsson has the best chance for a CS. Coleman for attacking points.
