Scout Notes – Gameweek 35 – Monday

Sergio Aguero grabs a goal and assist as City return to winning ways at home to West Brom. David Silva is stretchered off with his recurring ankle injury, whilst Yaya Toure is expected back in training ahead of the weekend trip to Palace. Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis also find the net, though a strike from Graham Dorrans ensures the hosts have failed to register a shut-out in five attempts:

Aguero Steers City to Victory
Manuel Pellegrini dropped Alvaro Negredo and handed Edin Dzeko a start alongside the Argentine in a 4-4-2 formation last night. Back amongst the goals for the first time since Gameweek 23, Aguero supplied the assist for City’s opener and netted the second before being withdrawn just after the hour mark, as his manager continues to court caution with his game time. With the maximum bonus also accrued, Aguero’s display highlights the fact that, whilst he may not be given the full 90 minutes just yet, he’s more than capable of delivering the returns regardless. As doubts hang over City’s other main men, his appeal is set to rise ahead of the upcoming double as the clamour for his acquisition intensifies amongst Fantasy managers.

Silva Concern for Pellegrini
After being all but ruled out by his manager in Friday afternoon’s press conference, David Silva made a rapid recovery in time for yesterday evening’s encounter. The Spaniard’s night lasted 69 minutes before a challenge from the Baggies’ Morgan Amalfitano saw him land awkwardly on the very ankle that forced him to miss last week’s home clash against Sunderland. Stretchered from the pitch in some discomfort, there will be real question marks over Silva’s chances of making next weekend’s trip to Palace, and with Pellegrini previously admitting his playmaker is unable to feature twice within a week, many owners may be looking for an exit route.

After the game, Pellegrini rolled out an update on Silva’s situation:

“Hopefully it will be a short-term injury. It is hard to tell without the doctors giving their assessment. David played the last games with pain in his ankle. That is why it was impossible for him to play against Sunderland because after three days he can’t recover from his problem. We will see tomorrow [Wednesday] what happens with him. His injury started with a kick some weeks ago and every week he plays in the last game with pain.”

Reports suggest Yaya Toure is due be back in training tomorrow, though, with the Ivorian potentially in line for a return to action in time for Sunday’s trip to Selhurst Park, providing he can step up his recovery from a groin problem.

City Defenders in the Points
It’s five games without a clean sheet for Pellegrini’s charges after the Baggies breached Joe Hart’s goal last night. City’s defensive regulars still managed to pick up the points, though, with Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis each grabbing a goal, whilst Vincent Kompany chipped in with an assist and a single bonus point – whilst their defensive resolve has certainly lessened, owners will be content for now after last night’s returns. The same can hardly be said for Aleksandar Kolarov, though – omitted from the starting XI for the fourth time in the last six games, the Serbian was afforded a two-minute cameo just before the final whistle, thus depriving Fantasy managers of a replacement off the bench. For many, last night’s frustrating turn of events may well be the final straw.

Dorrans in the Goals Again
The Scot grabbed his side’s consolation in last night’s 3-1 defeat, taking his tally to a couple of goals in the last four fixtures. With the maximum bonus points also picked up, Dorrans’ 10-point haul was his highest of the season and suggests that, at 4.4, he could be worth considering for the upcoming double Gameweek 37 as a means to free up cash elsewhere. With upcoming home showdowns against West Ham and Stoke also still to follow, his contribution could be key for a Baggies side that had won three and drawn one of the five matches prior to last night’s defeat.

Defensive Concerns for Mel
The Baggies were without Gareth McAuley for the Etihad encounter after the Northern Ireland international picked up a calf problem in training late last week. Pepe Mel’s problems at the back continued after Liam Ridgewell sustained an ankle injury which could even keep him out for the rest of the season. Chris Brunt owners won’t be too pleased by the news that he is expected to shift into the left-back berth if Ridgewell is indeed ruled out for the weekend game against West Ham.

    Some postings on the Man City forum saying that the Silva injury may just be studs down the back of the foot.
    Are we likely to find out news today, do you think?

      I think Pellegrini's will play further mind games. It's late in the season, he's keeping his cards close to his chest. Even if Silva is fit he's not going to say so.

      He rolled over his ankle, no studs. I think he's done given the ankle was already bum. Even if he's on the pitch won't be effective. Single week mid to easily outscore him from here on out.

        4 transfers.
        Suarez ---> Rooney
        Lukaku --> Podolski
        Silva ---> Mata
        Puncheon ---> Ramsey

        Craziness. 12 point hit. But believe each transfer will make up for the hit.

        Season's gone a bit wayward after leaving my team dead for a month anyway. Just doing my best to beat last season's rank.

      Baines shouldn't even be part of the question, and I'd say Cahill should always play as well based on goal threat and the team he plays for.

      So I'd say A, B and any other - D or E.

    Had a chat with a mate and we had hugely different opinions on this subject regarding PFA young player of the year award.

    What do you look for in your criteria? Do you look for the best individual, regardless of anything else, just how good a player they are?

    Or do you look how they have done overall, ie if they have made large contributions to their side maybe winning the league or extremely overperforming, and the fact they are 18/19, whereas others in the catergory are 23/24? Improvement to last year?

        Regardless, I'd look for a number of factors. Individual skill is big, how you slot into the team, your role in the team. I often look for how well a team might have done without them, for example Ramsey has shown that if he had remained healthy there's every possibility Arsenal would still be in for the title. Essentially I'd look at all the players and decide who I'd have in my team first.

          But you said Sterling, yes? 😉

          Hazard is an alright shout. I would have put it between Ramsey (because he's the most influential young player in the league regarding team performance) and Sterling (he's had a great season). Can't really think of many others who have impressed me as much.

    A) The answer is available via the first link on Google.
    B) Nobody would have any chance of knowing the answer.
    C) The answer is further up the page.

    It just creates lots of posts, lots of pages and the same things being said over and over..
    Until someone gives some good analysis on a player / team and then a discussion is born, before reverting back to same old same old.

    Team for the next week is:

    Mannone
    Baines Cahill Chester
    Mata Nasri Eriksen AJ
    Suarez Aguero Lukaku

    bench: Azpi - Ward - Noone

    which transfers look better:

    A. AJ ---> Ramsey
    or
    B. Azpi + Lukaku ---> JEvans / Smalling + Rooney (-4)

    ?

    Gotta decide today because of price moves

      A you would be taking a double GW player out for a single GW player.

      B you are taking a hit to get in 2 DGW players so -2 on each really and with their minutes played they should at least cover that.

      So B I guess.

    What do you think for UCL?

    Was thinking on bringing Bale, but Bayern is a tight team, so might no give him mutch room to run...

    Sorry for the caps:

    COURTOIS

    ALABA - PEPE - AZPILICUETA

    ROBBEN - HAZARD - DI MARÍA - KROOS

    Silva probably wont play next game,and in DGW he can play 1 game max,so is it worth do do Silva to Nasri now for -8? My mids are:Silva,Mata,Eriksen,Ramsey and Puncheon,and if Silva wont play I'll have to play one of Chester,Azpi or Punch

    Anyone else finding they can make unlimited transfers in UCL? I've made 7 already and it doesn't mention any points deductions.

      In a similar position with a similar team and have done D. Feels like the safest option if you're playing for ML and not for rank.

    If Giggs plays Rooney deeper, with a different striker upfront, does that lessen Rooney's appeal for the DGW?

      maybe....but i think he knows Rooney well enough to know he wants to play up top.

      I suspect hierarchy will be sensitive of upsetting old Wayne ahead of another summer transfer window...
