Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 35 – Monday

Sergio Aguero grabs a goal and assist as City return to winning ways at home to West Brom. David Silva is stretchered off with his recurring ankle injury, whilst Yaya Toure is expected back in training ahead of the weekend trip to Palace. Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis also find the net, though a strike from Graham Dorrans ensures the hosts have failed to register a shut-out in five attempts:

Aguero Steers City to Victory
Manuel Pellegrini dropped Alvaro Negredo and handed Edin Dzeko a start alongside the Argentine in a 4-4-2 formation last night. Back amongst the goals for the first time since Gameweek 23, Aguero supplied the assist for City’s opener and netted the second before being withdrawn just after the hour mark, as his manager continues to court caution with his game time. With the maximum bonus also accrued, Aguero’s display highlights the fact that, whilst he may not be given the full 90 minutes just yet, he’s more than capable of delivering the returns regardless. As doubts hang over City’s other main men, his appeal is set to rise ahead of the upcoming double as the clamour for his acquisition intensifies amongst Fantasy managers.

Silva Concern for Pellegrini
After being all but ruled out by his manager in Friday afternoon’s press conference, David Silva made a rapid recovery in time for yesterday evening’s encounter. The Spaniard’s night lasted 69 minutes before a challenge from the Baggies’ Morgan Amalfitano saw him land awkwardly on the very ankle that forced him to miss last week’s home clash against Sunderland. Stretchered from the pitch in some discomfort, there will be real question marks over Silva’s chances of making next weekend’s trip to Palace, and with Pellegrini previously admitting his playmaker is unable to feature twice within a week, many owners may be looking for an exit route.

After the game, Pellegrini rolled out an update on Silva’s situation:

“Hopefully it will be a short-term injury. It is hard to tell without the doctors giving their assessment. David played the last games with pain in his ankle. That is why it was impossible for him to play against Sunderland because after three days he can’t recover from his problem. We will see tomorrow [Wednesday] what happens with him. His injury started with a kick some weeks ago and every week he plays in the last game with pain.”

Reports suggest Yaya Toure is due be back in training tomorrow, though, with the Ivorian potentially in line for a return to action in time for Sunday’s trip to Selhurst Park, providing he can step up his recovery from a groin problem.

City Defenders in the Points
It’s five games without a clean sheet for Pellegrini’s charges after the Baggies breached Joe Hart’s goal last night. City’s defensive regulars still managed to pick up the points, though, with Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis each grabbing a goal, whilst Vincent Kompany chipped in with an assist and a single bonus point – whilst their defensive resolve has certainly lessened, owners will be content for now after last night’s returns. The same can hardly be said for Aleksandar Kolarov, though – omitted from the starting XI for the fourth time in the last six games, the Serbian was afforded a two-minute cameo just before the final whistle, thus depriving Fantasy managers of a replacement off the bench. For many, last night’s frustrating turn of events may well be the final straw.

Dorrans in the Goals Again
The Scot grabbed his side’s consolation in last night’s 3-1 defeat, taking his tally to a couple of goals in the last four fixtures. With the maximum bonus points also picked up, Dorrans’ 10-point haul was his highest of the season and suggests that, at 4.4, he could be worth considering for the upcoming double Gameweek 37 as a means to free up cash elsewhere. With upcoming home showdowns against West Ham and Stoke also still to follow, his contribution could be key for a Baggies side that had won three and drawn one of the five matches prior to last night’s defeat.

Defensive Concerns for Mel
The Baggies were without Gareth McAuley for the Etihad encounter after the Northern Ireland international picked up a calf problem in training late last week. Pepe Mel’s problems at the back continued after Liam Ridgewell sustained an ankle injury which could even keep him out for the rest of the season. Chris Brunt owners won’t be too pleased by the news that he is expected to shift into the left-back berth if Ridgewell is indeed ruled out for the weekend game against West Ham.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

would be perfect this week, then buy Cahill back for Norwich at home alongside Demichelis

Repost as it was probably ignored for being absolutely bonkers.

Genuinely contemplating Suarez > Rooney (-4) this week.
    S. Davis + Lukaku > Yaya + Kane (-4) next week leaving me with this for the double:

    Ramsey, Eriksen, Mata*, Yaya*, Nasri*
    Rooney*, Aguero* (Kane)

And get Suarez back in 38 as a (c) option.

Crazy or calculated? I already know it's a risk but hoping to jump up the ranks in the next couple of weeks. One final push.

anyone actually more worried about rooney now moyes has gone?
rooney was doing great under moyes, especially in the easy games like they have left. giggs was a fergie lieutenant and we know how fergie treated rooney at the end.
i don't think anything crazy will happen but i was just fine with moyes when it came to rooney, especially when rvp got injured. maybe things could get better, also worried there's room for it to get worse though

Hey Guys. Just nudged into the top 3,000 which must be my best rank ever 🙂

My FT is Lukaku > Rooney (seems a no-brainer with the DGW and little threat of RVP coming back).

    For -4:

    B) Silva > Mata
    C) Silva > Ramsey

Option B looks more sensible (looming DGW, and I see a re-invigorated Man U). Agree?

    FYI, my team is:

    Manone (Marshall)
    Baines Smalling Cahill (Ward Coleman)
    Silva Gerrard Erikson Puncheon (Mutch)
    Suarez Lukaku Aguero

I'm guessing big split of opinion on owning United players now. Optimists looking at a post-Moyes bounce. Pessimists see a club in turmoil. Realists see what?

As a Toure/Zabaleta/Bardsley/Lukaku owner, those DGW can be mighty disappointing. ManU players could easily repeat the sort of 2ppg returns that we got in GW34.

I don't understand bookies. Klopp at 10/1 to be the next United manager despite saying there's absolutely no chance. Simeone is 18/1 when all he said was he didn't want to discuss it. More likely to see Fergie come back than Klopp!

Bookies just being cautious as United could easily turn Klopps head. Wouldn't be the first time a manager has ruled himself out of a job only to take it. They certainly need a big name manager who can attract the right players.

It'd need a miracle I think, Klopp is a very loyal man and doesn't tend to leave a club he has unfinished business with. I'm just surprised that they've given better odds on a more likely occurrence, seems like they're risking losing money.

This kind of probability is the most difficult one. To put it in a scientific way, it is a Bayesian probability. Bookies probably wouldn't even offer the particular market if they would expect massive money on it. It is mainly a market just for advertisement and usually bookies estimations vary a lot.

So last week I felt like my team is in tatters, then I went and got 83 points! funny how these things work out.

anyway, I still feel like my team is in tatters! My main problems are:

2 norwich players - Snodgras and Olsson.
2 everton players - Coleman and Lukaku

    also. Silva and Hazard!

so basically I have 6 players I'm not happy with...

which players would you say are the priority to get out?

    1) Snodgras
    2) Olsson
    3) Coleman
    4) Lukaku
    5) Silva
    6) Hazard

Easy answer Silva and Hazard. Everton are in fantastic form I wouldn't worry about them. Your Norwich players are most likely bench warmers so not a huge concern.

They look nervy when inviting the pressure onto their defence, they'll burst out of the blkocks like they did vs City though and Chelsea will be under pressure.

Chelsea don't have David Silva to grab the game, and they'll be tired after chasing Atletico for 90 minutes.

The second statement is to ambiguous, you may as well say "they don't have Ronaldo" or "they don't have Messi".

The first statement acknowledges that they don't have a player with the same or similar skill set to Silva (and not the actual player himself.)

Oscar is looking tired and has eased off in the second half of the season, Lamps is ageing and would struggle vs Liverpool's speed, Hazard is coming back from injury and will be prioritised at Atletico surely..

I dunno, I expect a tough enough, close, defensive game from Chelsea and if they keep Suarez & Co. out for long enough they could counter, but I don't see them keeping Liverpool out at Anfield with the league title in Liverpool's hands.
