Scout Scribbles – Sturridge On Course for Weekend Return

Daniel Sturridge is expected to be fit in time for Liverpool’s home clash with Chelsea. Sylvain Distin is ruled out of Everton’s trip to Southampton, though Roberto Martinez won’t be rushing Phil Jagielka back. Ramires is charged by the FA for an off-the-ball incident in last week’s loss to Sunderland, whilst Robbie Brady could return before the end of the season for Hull:

STURRIDGE SET FOR WEEKEND COMEBACK

Reports suggest that Daniel Sturridge is in contention to be fit for this Sunday’s title showdown against Chelsea, having missed out against Norwich last weekend with a hamstring complaint. The striker, who picked up the injury against Manchester City in Gameweek 34, has declared himself ready to return on Sunday, but was uncertain whether Brendan Rodgers will immediately recall him:

“Hopefully this weekend I’ll be back. I’m not too sure if [Rodgers] will play me or not. We’ll have to see.”

The Scout Says: Sturridge’s absence last Saturday offered Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling the chance to take centre stage against the Canaries, but the Englishman will be keen to prove the difference against title rivals Chelsea if he does indeed win his fitness race. Blanks in his last three appearances have somewhat lessened the 10.0-priced forward’s late season appeal, but there is no doubt that Sturridge – who racked up 11 goals between Gameweeks 21-31 – has the ability to outshine his in-form teammates across Liverpool’s final three games of the season (CHE, cry, NEW) as they chase the top spot.

MARTINEZ STILL WON’T RUSH JAGIELKA

Roberto Martinez will maintain his cautious approach towards captain Phil Jagielka’s return from a hamstring problem, despite ruling fellow centre-back Sylvain Distin out of the weekend trip to Southampton earlier today. Martinez reiterated that he will only use Jagielka if he is 100% fit, and earmarked Everton’s penultimate game of the season against Manchester City as his target return date:

“Phil Jagielka has got his own programme and it is important that we follow that and we don’t rush him back. He has been involved with the first team training now and that is a really good sign. We want Phil back as quick as we can but not because we have got an injury with Sylvain. We aren’t going to rush and do the wrong things in his individual programme. Phil is going to be fully fit very soon and I do expect that he will probably be able to make the squad against Manchester City and that’s always been the plan.”

The Scout Says: Absent since Gameweek 27, Jagielka’s recovery from injury has been something of a slog, with Martinez repeatedly refusing to rush his captain back to action. Jagielka’s absence has provided John Stones the opportunity to impress over the past eight Gameweeks, but the youngster’s stint in the Toffees’ backline could be set to come to an end if both Jagielka and Distin are fit for the Man City game in two weekend’s time, depriving Fantasy managers of the only budget route into one of the league’s most in form defences. Antolin Alcaraz will most likely partner Stones for the trip to St Mary’s this Saturday, where the likes of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana will be keen to return to scoring ways against the Toffees patched-up defence.

RAMIRES CHARGED BY FA

Chelsea midfielder Ramires has been charged by the FA with violent conduct for an off-the-ball incident with Seb Larsson in his side’s draw with Sunderland last weekend. The Brazilian has until later today to respond to the charge which could result in a four-game domestic ban, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

The Scout Says: With John Terry and Petr Cech already expected to miss the rest of the campaign, Jose Mourinho will have his fingers and toes crossed that the FA rescind Ramires’ charge following an appeal. The 6.3 priced midfielder returned from injury against Swansea two weekends ago, and was due to play a major role for Mourinho’s side as they chase the league title, but his lack of discipline on Saturday could be about to bring his season to a premature end. If David Luiz is chosen to fill in for Terry at the back, Frank Lampard will be first in line to replace Ramires should his appeal fail, although John Obi Mikel will also be pushing for inclusion. With Mourinho and assistant manager Rui Faria also facing FA charges for separate incidents against Sunderland, Chelsea’s cool, calm exterior is beginning to crack at just the wrong time, and Liverpool will be hopeful of taking advantage of the London side’s misfortunes this Sunday.

BRADY OPTIMISTIC OVER RETURN

Hull City’s Robbie Brady has revealed that he may yet feature for his side before the season draws to a close. The young winger returned to action at the start of February following a two-month absence, but was then forced to undergo potentially season-ending surgery on his long standing groin injury later that month. However, the Republic of Ireland international is now optimistic over his chances of featuring in the Tigers’ upcoming FA Cup final date with Arsenal, and may even be back for their final league game of the season at home to Everton.

The Scout Says: Three double figure hauls in the first six Gameweeks of the campaign made Brady a stand-out budget option in the early season. His struggles with injury since have seen that early form fall away, and even his return in Gameweek 24 proved too soon as his groin complaint flared up once again. Nonetheless, should he make his comeback before the season is up, the ex-Manchester United youngster may still have the platform to prove his worth to Fantasy managers ahead of next season. With Brady definitely out of Hull’s upcoming double Gameweek, George Boyd will be hoping to keep his position on the left flank having notched the winner against Swansea two weeks ago, offering Fantasy managers a 4.8 priced midfield option for Hull’s trips to Aston Villa and Man United.

He definitely said he was "close".

I was all set to play 2 Everton defenders this weekend, but might just stick to Baines now.

He has, probably rightly, a lot of faith in Stones. I think he's possibly being over-cautious. Distin's injury might force his hand.

I've seen a few potential teams posted on Twitter that Chelsea could field this weekend. Massively under strength. If Jose goes ahead with that he has lost the plot IMO.

I think it would be stupid to punish it. He's got a squad of players and can pick who he wants. It's not up to the FA to decide what they think is Chelsea's best players.

      VS Atletico:

      Schwarzer
      Azpi - Ivan - Cahill - Cole
      Luiz - Ramires
      Willian - Oscar - Hazard
      Etoo

      VS Liverpool:

      Schwarzer
      Ivan - Kalas - Cahill - Cole
      Matic - Mikel
      Schurrle - Lampard - Salah
      Torres

It's the Chelsea defence that will be the problem area vs Liverpool, as even those I mention he might want to rest.

I'll play it next year and see how it goes but I totally agree RonH. Between injuries, fixed team after 3 weeks and the punitive loan system, I don't see how it does anything other than amplify the luck factor inherent in FPL.

This season, few would have had Ramsey or Yaya after three weeks. Those who did would have had an enormous advantage from limited skill.

I lose 9 points to replace 1 player for 3 weeks!

Will be hard for a defender to return that.

As you say, the lack of transfers leave it mostly down to luck.

Though they may have more transfer windows, I am not sure yet.

Fantasy football Scout daily hot topic

This ones from 7Shadesof Smoke and carries on a very lengthy Baines v Coleman debate that goes on every month or so behind the scenes at FFS towers.

He says: With just three games remaining, how do you see the Coleman vs Baines argument playing out?

    a) Baines is the better asset and worth the extra 0.5m
    b) Coleman is a better/equal option for less
    c) We don't care, both should be sold for DGW/better fixture assets.

Coleman was a poor pick for quite a few weeks with very few chances created/shots/touches in the box and then suddenly turned it around again last weekend...So based on consistency Baines is the one.

If you have just Baines you probably keep him.

If you have both you probably ditch Coleman as Baines has lower ownership and is probably on better form.

We have 2 teams in Handball Champions League in quarter final and both of them got there games postponed. We played against Flensburg from Germany and there federation was considering this and the game was played on Monday in order to have time for rest..

Atletico Madrid played on Friday and Real M didn't have game at the w/e. I can go on and go on. How all of you are blinded. or only Man Utd and Liverpool is English football?

Suarez (C) is the key decision this week. I'm genuinely undecided. I think he is a good captain most weeks at home so I don't see this being any different with Mourinho seemingly arriving with a far weaker bus.

Mourinho blasted English football chiefs for producing a fixture list which sees the game against Brendan Rodgers' side fall between the two semi-final games, a situation he said would not happen in Spain.

He said: "The fact the match is on a Sunday puts the problem not in my hands, but the hands of the people who decide the game should be played on Sunday, not Saturday or Friday.

"We represent English football, we are the only English team in Europe.

"Spain has four teams and gives them all the conditions to have success."

A line from this very article:

"Chelsea lost Petr Cech and John Terry to shoulder and ankle injuries at the Vicente Calderón, but while the lineup who will confront the leaders will not be first-choice, they could not be dismissed as "weakened"."

Seems to go with what I was saying. Missing Cech, Terry and likely Hazard, the team will of course be weakened, but that doesn't mean they'll be playing second string.

The above team posted I think is just a speculation of what team with the lowest gametime Mourinho could put out. Kinda like when someone wrote up a potential line-up that could see Mourinho play 11 midfielders

A lot of conjecture and speculation on here , and I wouldn't start Wellbeck , I'm still not getting the hype , he has no real position , he ain't a striker of Utd caliber , he's not clinical enough is my twopence worth.

Which potential single game players in gwk37 are folks looking at? Arsenal assets aside, Im looking at those who will play their final home games that week. Lampard could be a surprise if Ramires is out. Nolan and Carroll aginst bitter rivals Spura? An in form Arnautovic?

I'm sort of having the same thought. Already got Zaba so he's staying but wondering next week on Coleman to either Kosc or a Man U def (upto £5.5)

I think there's more chance of a clean sheet from Kosc though.

Will Man U or man city keep clean sheets in the DGW? I'm doubtful to be honest.

If Kosc has a clean sheet + bonus then in one game hell out score the DGWers....

I guess this is the gamble

I can definitely see Kosc keeping a CS in the next 2 as they are home to Newcastle and WBA and the only real thing tempting me to bring in Demi is the DGW. Man U have good fixtures but its too much of a gamble as to who will play. I suppose DDG is the only nailed on option.

Seems to be some consensus on it. Must admit Im very tempted to ditch Mata because of it, i think its quite likely he wont get enough minutes to justify being classed a double gameweek player - in which case theres no reason to have him and id be better of ditching him for someone else.

Yeh, trouble is Im not so sure that Yaya is a great option with Aguero back. Some time ago I looked back and im pretty sure Yaya only got double figures twice when Aguero played 60+ mins.

Having said that, he may actually be the only option, with Silva probably out as well. Unless you gamble on a non-dgw like Ozil for example.

Suarez out this week, Lukaku out the next week.

Then Rooney / Podolski to Suarez GW38.

This does not appear to be quoting any official sources so i can only conclude it is made up as usual. Enough of these guesses will turn out to be true that people will keep on believing it but really its not that hard to speculate based on a reasonable understanding of the situation and then print it as fact. Same with the mata story

if they field a weakened team then chelsea should be deducted points and maybe thrown out of premier league. It is basically handing the title to liverpool

I remember blackpool being sanctioned a few years ago for fielding a weak team away to one of the top 4 with another game midweek but man u did it last day of same season prior to fa cup one week later and that was fine.

Liverpool will lose regardless of the team Chelsea field. Chelsea could play their Ladies team and still win. Liverpool are serial bottlers.

Silva > Ramsey for a hit? Then Chester & Stones > Demichelis & P.Jones for the DGW? Gives me:

    Mannone*
    Coleman - Demichelis* - P.Jones*
    Eriksen - Gerrard - Nasri* - Ramsey
    Aguero* - Rooney* - Suarez

    Gazzaniga - Azpilicueta - Jedinak - Ward

    Thoughts?

      Ivan = Biggest goal threat

Ward = Best form and at home

Vlaar = Easiest fixture and Villa can be decent away.

I'd go for Ivan, Ward comes close, don't trust Vlaar

Fringe players overlooked by Moyes, such as Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck, are likely to return to the starting line-up against Norwich, with Moyes’s signings, Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini, at risk of being dropped to the substitutes’ bench.

Oh my. Only if I was patient and waited on that price rise on Mata 🙁 That would have mean Ward from the bench too. So be it, you can't predict all. But I think Moyes should play Mata

Again mata being dropped is educated guess work, nothing more. I also had him knocking ward out my team btw and would not have got him if i had known moyes would be sacked
