Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 38

It’s Friday afternoon and with only the last two Gameweeks remaining, we roll out our weekly look at the Sky Sports Fantasy game. We cast an eye over the pertinent stats, which include the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends and, as always, look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 38.

Gameweek 37 Man of the Match Awards

Here’s a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Fulham vs HullAshkan Dejagah
Man United vs NorwichWayne Rooney
Southampton vs EvertonSteven Davis
Stoke vs TottenhamEmmanuel Adebayor
Swansea vs Aston VillaWilfried Bony
West Brom vs West HamBen Foster
Crystal Palace vs Man CityYaya Toure
Liverpool vs ChelseaDemba Ba
Sunderland vs CardiffConnor Wickham
Arsenal vs NewcastleMesut Ozil

A number of differential forwards popped up this week to offer the mavericks amongst us some enticing options, with Connor Wickham, in particular, surprising many with his recent displays. There was also a return to form for Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil, who, after a great start, has flattered to deceive somewhat until now – Sky’s preference towards playmaking midfielders may help him earn more MoTM awards and pick up some serious points over the two remaining Gameweeks.

Gameweek 37 Bonus Points

Four goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Chelsea’s stand in keeper Mark Schwarzer was the top performer with eight saves and a clean sheet. Vito Mannone is still the bonus darling overall with 30 additional points.

In defence, nine players gathered bonus, six for tackles and three for passes completed – Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren was the player closet to achieving both missing out by just 15 completed passes. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 28 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – nine for tackling and seven for passes. Play-makers Aaron Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho and Mikel Arteta were the three players to manage both. Mikel Arteta is now the games top bonus earner overall with 46 extra points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
HazardChelsea8.85.83%
SilvaMan City8.45.42%
TerryChelsea75.41%
BainesEverton7.74.49%
CechChelsea5.84.05%

David Silva and Petr Cech look the least likely to feature this week and look like reasonable transfers at this stage, though Eden Hazard, John Terry and Leighton Baines are all fit for the coming Gameweek.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.810.94%
ToureMan City8.69.44%
SterlingLiverpool4.84.52%
GiroudArsenal8.53.71%
AgueroMan City9.83.38%

Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure were drafted in by around 10% of managers after their return from injury and look great options for the remainder of the season. Raheem Sterling is still the budget midfielder of choice as he continues to deliver decent returns, whilst forwards Olivier Giroud and Sergio Aguero find themselves drafted in by around 3.5%

Gameweek 38 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 38 there is a multitude of options available due to fixtures on five separate days, with enough transfers then you could opt for a five captain approach!

Our Strategy:
Juan Mata (Home to Sunderland) → Juan Mata (Home to Hull) → Sergio Aguero (Home to Aston Villa)

We tipped Wayne Rooney for a haul last week and also backed him for MoTM which thankfully he delivered on both accounts. With a new found feeling of positivity around Old Trafford at the moment, we turn to United again but with Rooney now a doubt along with Robin Van Persie, Juan Mata is perhaps the safest option ahead of two favourable home fixtures.

A quick transfer or captain switch to Yaya Toure or Sergio Aguero for the final day of fixtures in this Gameweek looks a good option as Man City host a struggling Aston Villa side at the Etihad.

Of course if you still have transfers remaining and are tempted to go for the monthly prize you could transfer out your captain each new fixture day and therefore have five captains for the week, therefore increasing your odds of hitting a winner massively.

I agree, mate. But let's assume Rooney does start and Giggs fields the same team that played last weekend. Having to rely on a Mata superb second-half is too much of a risk. Then again, Aguero might as well play his usual 60 minutes and then come off. I'm thinking Yaya is in fact the safest bet...

For that reason I wasn´t going to bring in Mata this week, but all this fuzz about Rooney actually makes Mata more tempting to hedge the risk.

I think I am keeping Rooney, but taking a (c) off him.

Even if he fails to feature against both Sunderland and Hull, I have Chester with a double as a back-up on my bench. So not that bad. And completely no one is appealing for me to take a hit and eventual RVP requires -8, so no thank you.

    REPOST

    Sitting on this:

    Mannone
    Baines • Demichelis • Azpilicueta
    Yaya • Mata • Ramsey • Eriksen
    Suárez • Agüero • Rooney
    -4

Was originally thinking about doing Baines to Evra. Is it still worth it?

    A) Baines to Evra
    B) Rooney to Wickham/Welbeck
    C) None, just stick
    D) Downgrade Baines to Chester and upgrade Rooney to RvP?

    Thoughts?

        Cheers, here are my thoughts:

        A little uncertainty surround Rooney play time(0, 90, 120, 180mins?)
RvP is back and Rooney might drop deep.
Man Utd has little to play for.

        On the other hand,
Man City title chasing. Needs 3 wins = needs goals.
Aguero and Dzeko to do the job 🙂

I don't understand why Jose's done that. There'll be loads of clubs after Hazard if he shows any signs of being unhappy.

    Howdo Chumps.

Haven't been on much this week (mainly due the The Enlighteners bad jokes).

    Got a front eight of:

    Yaya, Nasri, Mata, Eriksen, Ramsey
    Suarez, Aguero, Wickham

    Who's bench fodder this week?

Suarez. But he's too expensive as bench fodder, so transfer him out and bench Eriksen.

Told Rooney is v unlikely to play in the Hull match Tuesday & won't play tomorrow after picking up groin injury in training Monday #MUFC

Silva still has his injury which allows him to play 1 game and rest 3-4 days before he can play again. I wouldn't risk Silva unless Pellers says he's fit (but I remember him saying Silva needed an operation).

So here's the dilemma. Currently 2nd overall in Nepal, 44 points off first, and would love to finish top. The leader doesn't have Yaya but does have Aguero, and unlikely to bring him in given available funds etc. But it's not worth any money to finish top in that league, and in both the cash leagues I'm in, the guys in 2nd (I'm top) will captain Aguero as they too don't have Yaya.

    Do I:

    (a) consolidate the lead I have in my cash leagues and captain Aguero, mitigating the risk of them catching me

    Or

    (b) take a punt on Yaya, in the hope it pays off and I catch the leader in Nepal, simultaneously extending my lead in the cashies?

Risk and reward at this point in the season, risk and reward.

Thinking about it some more, as I have both there's more upside potential in captaining Yaya. I still get Aguero's single points if he goes berserk, but if Yaya goes mental I really steal a march on my opponents....

PS. Cash leagues worth a good few hundred quid.
