Spot the Differential

Spot the Differential – Gameweek 37

Our trio of overlooked alternatives are all set for a couple of fixtures in the final double Gameweek of the season. We turn to both Manchester sides for a couple of fit-again big-hitters, whilst West Brom’s summer signing from Sunderland also earns the nod as the Baggies’ bid for survival steps up:

David Silva

Passed fit by Manuel Pellegrini earlier today, the playmaker’s return may well prove decisive as City attempt to close in on the title. Prior to being stretchered off with an ongoing ankle problem in the Gameweek 35 win over West Brom, Silva had served up his best displays of the season – delivering three goals, four assists and 10 bonus points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game over his previous six appearances.

A mass exodus has quickly seen his ownership plummet across the Fantasy games, however, with only 5% of FPL managers currently holding the 9.5-priced Spaniard ahead of City’s pair of games against Everton and Villa. Whilst there still may be some concerns over his game time, if Silva can replicate his recent form in the double, he could be a devastating differential, either as an alternative to (the 37%-owned) Yaya Toure or as part of a City midfield double-up, as Pellegrini goes on the attack in order to overtake Liverpool at the summit.

Available for 8.4 in the Sky Sports game and 5.5 in the Sun Dream Team, Silva also has a potentially decisive home clash against West Ham on the final day of the season to further his appeal.

Robin van Persie

Back in full training after a number of weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury, the United forward’s acquisition doesn’t come without risk. In his Friday morning press conference, Ryan Giggs conceded it’s uncertain whether Van Persie will be ready in time for today’s home game against Sunderland, but with a midweek showdown against Hull also on the horizon, optimism still surrounds his double Gameweek prospects.

As last week’s demolition of Norwich showed, Giggs is determined to go on the offensive after a series of negative displays under former boss David Moyes dented the Red Devils’ Fantasy assets for the vast majority of the season. With Wayne Rooney doubtful due to illness and a groin problem, Van Persie could potentially be handed the lone forward role, with Juan Mata tucked in behind – a scenario that could see him rack up the returns over his couple of fixtures. Alternatively, he may be afforded a pair of sub appearances off the bench, though even with limited game time, the Dutchman – priced at 13.5 in FPL, 10.0 in the Sky Sports game and 8.0 in the Sun Dream Team, – has the potential to deliver.

Stephane Sessegnon

Whilst West Brom boss Pepe Mel continues to chop and change his preferred lone striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation, the Benin international’s security of start in “the hole” behind in undoubted. Sessegnon has chipped in with a couple of goals in his last eight appearances but, as yesterday afternoon’s Members article alluded to, he’s been more than a little unlucky not to add to that tally.

The Baggies have struck a rich vein of form in recent weeks ahead of their trips to Arsenal and Sunderland, with two wins and a couple of draws in the last five taking them to the brink of survival. Encouragingly for Mel, his side have already drawn with the Gunners and swept aside the Black Cats this term, with Sessegnon amongst the scorers in a 3-0 win over his former club.

Available for 6.4 in FPL, 6.7 in the Sky Sports game and 3.5 in the Sun Dream Team, he may well be worth a flutter for those backing the midlands outfit to prevail.

The key Rvp issue hasn't gone away -he's still too expensive . Having him means sacrifices elsewhere. Those getting him will have to compromise. Those sticking with Rooney or going cheaper will have a better XI.

Doesn't really affect rest of my XI at all. I don't have Rooney, so I'm doing Suarez -> RVP if anything. That still leaves me with £2M in bank. The injury crisis made team value pretty meaningless as it is difficult to find good expensive players.

              1) I think Newcastle is coming better now that Rémy and Debuchy are back. I need differential, so probably looking for someone who would outscore Suarez that round anyway. 2) RVP back to Suarez with the 1 FT is easier done than said.

Maybe. But still, he's easy to bring back if I have RVP. With RVP's price, any other striker in his place is 1FT and nothing else.

Coming better? 1-0-7 last 8 matches, scoring 2 goals and conceding a f***load, their fans are planning protests against Mike CAshley today and have absolutely zero to play for when they travel to Anfield, where Liverpool are playing for 1st, 2nd place and have scored a f***load through the season. A loanee, unfit striker and a full back with tendencies to be careless and reckless anyhow wont help very much.

Rooney news from the Daily Mail...

Rooney will miss Saturday's game at home to Sunderland, having also come down with a stomach upset during the week, and it remains to be seen if he will feature in United’s remaining fixtures against Hull and Southampton.

Also say that RVP 'could' replace Rooney although The Times say that RVP will start on the bench.

The consensus from the same journalists who correctly predicted the Moyes sacking and mata benching last week are saying Rooney is out this weekend and a doubt midweek. Doesn't sound too good fir Rooney owners.

I can't believe he wasn't fit to play. He started training with the team before their last match. If that was a CL final, he would have been brought in for the second half. And if this Sunderland match had any importance to ManU, he would start it, no doubt about it.

Cheers Innsie but noticed you're considering Nasri to Yaya for a hit. Mine would be for hits too so tempted to stick now

I just think Mata will outscore Eriksen by a lot which will probably be greater than how much Yaya will outscore Nasri.

    Mannone
    Flanagan -- Brown -- Koscielny
    Nasri -- Yaya -- Erikson -- Delph
    Rooney -- Suarez -- Aguero (c)

    Clyne / Coleman / Allen

    Appreciate some ideas....

Got a 28 point lead in ML. 6.6m in bank.

    Currently have:

    Mannone
Zab - Baines - Flanagan (Coleman) (Baker)
    Eriksen - Ramsey - AJ - Mutch - (Delph)
    Suarez - Rooney - Adebayor

    Looking at....

    a) Rooney & Mutch > Aguero & Mata (-4)
    b) Baines & Ramsey/Eriksen & Adebayor > Jones & Mata & Aguero (-8) (play Baker/Delph)

    Cheers

Gerrard will play deep but on Pens and after Chelsea game will be a man possessed. But he only has 1 game so could be 2 or 12 pt return.

I would still be tempted on Silva for -12 but being back from injury a gamble.

Already on -16 from transfers made last weekend.

    Mannone (Harper)
    Demi, Jones, Chester (Coleman, Shaw)
    Mata, Ramsey, Yaya, Erikson (Sterling)
    Rooney, Aguero, Suarez

Top of both of my cash MLs, with one 100+ clear, so I only care about the other with closest chaser 23pts behind (3rd 100+ behind) but I know they will pull at least a -12 for the DGW.

Should I react to Rooney news?

Your team is looking strong already in my opinion no more transfers required. Think we have to remember there is no firm news re Rooney and even if missing today he still has chance of playing second game.

So start Rooney and give armband to Mata? Think Utd have easier games and Giggs will play for big wins to make a name. City will be cautious to ensure 3pts, they already have the goals over LFC

Hmm take your point re Mata but still think Aguero for the armband. He will just want to score goals irrespective of their existing goal difference.

    Mannone
    Iva, Azpi, Evra
    Yaya, Nasri, Mata, Ramsey
    Ageuro (c) Suarez Rooney

    Lewis, Sterling, Azpi, Bruce

Any obvious players missing instead of Rooney or shall I keep him? Eg

    1. Wickham
    2. Podolski
    3. Your ideas?
