Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 37 – Monday

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge grab a goal apiece as Liverpool race to a three-goal lead at Selhurst Park. Dwight Gayle emerges from the bench to notch twice and help snatch an unlikely draw which all but ends the Merseysiders’ hopes of clinching the title:

Suarez and Sturridge Both in the Goals
Handed a brief sub role in the previous Gameweek, Daniel Sturridge went into last night’s encounter as a doubt after failing to train for much of the week. Passed fit for the vital Selhurst Park showdown, the England international’s return to the Liverpool starting XI saw Brendan Rodgers shift away from a 4-3-3 and roll out a midfield diamond behind the “SAS” front two, with both the Merseysiders’ front men amongst the goals. Sturridge’s strike was his first since Gameweek 31 and, having plummeted in price from 10.7 to 9.8 in recent weeks, he looks set for a major bandwagon for Sunday’s home encounter with Newcastle.

Suarez is also likely to earn new owners. Sold by over 76,000 Fantasy managers due to the double Gameweek, he had struggled with illness prior to the match but still managed to fire his 31st strike of the season before the Reds somehow blew a three-goal lead late on. With the likes of Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney struggling for fitness, many will move back to the Uruguayan and hand him the armband as Rodgers’ side attempt to recover from last night’s capitulation.

Gerrard in the Points Again
After producing blanks in each of the previous two Gameweeks, the Reds skipper delivered a pair of assists for his Fantasy owners in a pulsating 3-3 stalemate. With 13 goals and 13 assists this season, Gerrard has now surpassed last season’s tally of 185 points and has moved up to 194 – just six behind Eden Hazard in the FPL midfield standings. Raheem Sterling’s role in “the hole” behind the front two helped the youngster to an assist against the Eagles – indeed, his withdrawal on 71 minutes proved crucial and allowed the hosts to claw back a three-goal deficit. Priced at just 6.2, Sterling is another who looks poised for investment as Rodgers’ side look to go on the attack against a Magpies side that has lost six of their last seven.

Reds’ Porous Defence Proves Costly
Whilst Suarez and Sturridge have wreaked havoc on top-flight defences and delivered 52 goals between them, Rodgers’ backline has proven to be Liverpool’s Achilles heel. Last night’s result means the Reds have now conceded two or more goals in each of their last four matches, and although two of those fixtures resulted in victories, there’s no getting away from the fact that Liverpool desperately need to tighten up at the back next year. The 3-3 draw means they have now conceded 49 goals this term – that’s one more than 15th-placed Hull and some 23 more than third-placed Chelsea, for example.

Supersub Gayle Dents the Reds’ Title Hopes
A bit-part player under Tony Pulis, the summer signing’s 22-minute cameo off the bench looks to have handed City the title on a plate. Gayle had featured just three times in the previous 15 Gameweeks – all brief second-half sub appearances – but his two-goal salvo is set to have a huge effect on the race for the title. Liverpool may be a point ahead of City, but a win for Manuel Pellegrini’s men at home to Villa on Wednesday would give them a two-point advantage at the summit, and with a superior goal difference to the Merseysiders, it now looks City’s title to lose.

A lot if people would have taken a hit already to get him in and if you have Suarez and aguero not many other striker options can guarantee you getting back eight points so worth the gamble if leaving in

I'm from Ireland and choose to support Real Madrid over UCD AFC in the Irish league.

Just because you were born somewhere doesn't mean you have to support it. Follow whatever club you like and stop giving others grief over not being from London.

True, but not all of us are from England and very few countries have the abundance of competitive teams as England do.

How do you know Chucky lives in a country that even has a football league? Maybe he chose Chelsea as his dad chose Chelsea 50 years ago because they visited Pakistan or wherever Chucky's dad lived at the time? You never know.

I hate seeing people tell other people who they can and cannot support.

Having said all that, I agree that Chucky is a very annoying Chelsea fan at times 😛

If we think that some of the people are bad on here, then whoscored is a whole different level. I've just seen a guy get sworn at and berated for asking what happened after he went to bed when Liverpool were 3-0 up.

The arguments on there are insane! Its the internet version of Green Street!

Curious to know the answer to this.

Does playing Fantasy Football take away the enjoyment of watching football that you had before.

For example say you are a Sunderland fan but you have Loic Remy & Davide Stanton in your FF team. Now when Newcastle play you want Remy to score as many as possible and Toon to keep a CS. Whereas before you would have enjoyed nothing more than watch them get hammered.

I think it has made me enjoy more...Earlier I only used to watch Man United match..now I watch any match that is coming..because some of my player is playing..and with my player playing in that team..I also get a team to support in that match!

Same, it makes watching the teams you don't particularly care watching more interesting.

Well, not enjoying PL much anyway, to be honest, but yes, it does distort the football watching experience and I'll probably stop playing fantasy football because of that. Seriously: 1) it takes too much of my free time; 2) it destroys one of my favourite pass times, namely watching football. So, could enjoy my free time much more without fantasy football. The money I've made on it is so small it really ain't worth it.

Let me precise that first sentence: I am not fan of any team, so I don't have those "oh, now I have to back up Toon" issues. But I still find it kind of perverted to back up some real life events for some fantasy football results. I end up thinking of completely dumb things during matches.

It's 8 players locally trained, of which 4 must be trained in the club and 4 can be trained in other clubs of same association. "Trained" means having passed 3 full seasons between age of 15 and age of 21 in the club. Means that Cahill, Hart and Milner do for 3 association players, and Richards is one club trained and they need to bring up just 3 players from youth academy.

PSG will fare better with this, unless their young talents refuse to stay because of lack of chances to be lined up.

I don't think they will. In other news: Liverpool will be investigated soon after and will probably meet similar sanctions. They have way surpassed the deficit limits during last two seasons.

For all the talk of how important Cabaye was to Newcastle

Number of PL goals scored by Newcastle this season - 42

Number of games Remy has missed - 11

Number of goals scored by Newcastle in those 11 - 1

Number of goals scored by Remy - 14

          Number of assists -3

so that's direct Remy involvement in 17 of 41 goals, 42% involvement

In conclusion - Newcastle with Remy = good, Newcastle without Remy = bad
